Chapter 202 He Wants to Go in and Accompany Her

When Nathaniel heard the response from the doctor, his heart trembled with terror.

"Mr. Elliott, please, you must save her!" Nathaniel said.

A sigh came from the other end of the phone.

"As doctors, we'll try our best. We wish she could wake up right now. She has a head injury, and even if we save her, there's a high chance she could end up in a vegetative state. You need to be prepared for that."

Nathaniel took a deep breath and asked, "Mr. Elliott, who arranged you guys in?"

There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.

"Wasn't it you? Who else in Imperick has the connections you do?"

"Mr. Elliott, it really wasn't me. I'm also stuck outside the hospital and can't get in," Nathaniel denied.

As they spoke, urgent shouts from a nurse came through the receiver.

"Mr. Elliott, we have a situation with the patient. Quickly, come!"

The phone was abruptly hung up.

Nathaniel was left listening to the dial tone, his heart pounding. The thought of her struggling on the brink of life and death left him in agony. He wished he could be in her place instead.

Late at night, a helicopter landed on the hospital rooftop.

Joe, accompanied by several bodyguards, got off the helicopter. Outside the ICU, a dozen doctors sat in a row, exhausted but not daring to close their eyes, as Aurelia was in constant danger.

They had just gone through another perilous round of emergency.

Hearing the heavy footsteps, everyone looked up and saw Joe, the man who had given them strict orders over the phone, now appearing in person, exuding a menacing aura.

Leading the group, Mr. Elliott stood up and stared at this formidable man, thinking that the person behind Aurelia was indeed not Nathaniel.

Joe, with a grave expression, asked, "How is the patient?"

"We just finished resuscitation. The patient has a weak will to live, no desire to survive. You could say she's in utter despair. We're afraid the prognosis is grim. We've done everything we can; the rest is up to her."

The doctors all shook their heads.

Joe's face darkened instantly and asked, "Can I go in?"

"Yes, but you need to put on sterile clothing first to avoid secondary infection."

Joe followed a nurse to change clothes and walked into the ICU with a heavy heart.

Aurelia's head injury was severe, with much of her hair shaved off and stitches visible. Her entire face was swollen, eyes tightly shut, and bruises scattered across her face. She looked so small and pitiful lying in the hospital bed.

Joe was filled with regret. He felt he shouldn't have left her alone in this miserable place, leading to a near-fatal crisis. Now, her fate was uncertain, and the situation was grim.

He stepped forward and held her hand.

"Aunt passed away suddenly, and now you're going to leave without saying goodbye too? There are so many relatives in Coral Bay waiting for you to come back and reunite. Grandma, uncle, aunt, sister-in-law, and your niece are all waiting for you to come home. Don't you want to see them?"

"Why give up on yourself for a man? Fight for your life. The person who caused your mother's death is still out there enjoying life. The baby in your belly is fighting hard to come into this world. As a mother, how can you easily give up on your hope of living?"

Joe was heartbroken, wishing Nathaniel's company could go bankrupt right now. He spoke so much by her bedside but got no response from her.

Time ticked by, and the room was eerily quiet.

Joe stayed by her bedside, waiting for her to wake up. He knew how crucial this night was for Aurelia. If she didn't make it through, they would have to prepare for the worst, something he didn't want to face.

He couldn't believe someone could be so unlucky.

He kept talking by her bedside, telling her stories about Coral Bay and anecdotes from her mother's youth, trying to spark a will to live in Aurelia.

'She is only twenty-four; she shouldn't leave so quietly,' Joe thought.

As dawn approached, Joe had been at her bedside for most of the night, while the doctors outside took turns catching a few moments of rest.

Aurelia had been unconscious for over twelve hours.

With each passing second, Joe's disappointment grew. He kept calling out, "Aurelia, wake up and look at me. I heard you've been looking for me. Well, here I am. Anyone who dares to hurt you again will find themselves in pieces, fed to the fish in the sea!"

At that moment, the heart monitor's alarm suddenly blared. Joe sprang to his feet and yelled towards the door.

Several doctors rushed in, and Joe was pushed out by a nurse as the emergency light came on again.

Joe waited anxiously in the hallway; each tick of his watch's second hand felt like a heavy stroke on his heart, echoing in the dreadful corridor.

He wanted to drag those Nathaniel and Chelsea over and beat them up, strip them naked, and parade them through the streets.

He wouldn't let anyone who hurt his sister off the hook.

His assistant called, "Mr. Semona, Nathaniel came by again in the middle of the night, but our people chased him away again!"

Joe clenched his fist, the sound of his knuckles cracking, his hatred surging.

In Joe's eyes, Aurelia was perfect in every way, except for her terrible taste in men.

"Keep an eye on him. If he tries to force his way in, don't hold back!"

The assistant said, "Mr. Semona, the driver of the van that hit Ms. Semona is tight-lipped. We haven't gotten anything out of him. The police are also looking for this person. We need to act fast!"

"Hide him well. I'll interrogate him personally. Don't cripple him before that; I still need him."

"Understood, Mr. Semona," the assistant responded.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel sat in his Bentley in the parking lot, feeling utterly desolate.

He couldn't stand being in the office any longer, unsure of what he could do. He felt useless, unable to even find the right doctors to save her. The weight of his guilt was overwhelming, and he couldn't find any way to make amends.

He still hadn't figured out who was protecting Aurelia. After the call with Mr. Elliott, he lost contact with the doctor and knew nothing about what was happening in the ward.

The unknown was the scariest part.

Nathaniel remembered that Aurelia was most afraid of pain, even whining after a blood test.

Now, she had lost so much blood, her wounds must hurt terribly, and she must be scared to death.

At a time like this, he couldn't even be there for her—neither as a husband nor as an expecting father.

Reflecting on the past three years, apart from giving her money, he hadn't done anything right, and she hardly spent any of his money.

He kept reflecting on his actions over the past three years, regret washing over him like a tide.

Zack hurried over from a distance and knocked on the car window, saying "Mr. Heilbronn, I've contacted the hospital director. At ten in the morning, the emergency passage will be opened. We can get in from there without those people stopping us."

Nathaniel responded with a nod. No matter what, he had to be there with her, even if it could only ease her fear just a little.

Can't win me back
