Chapter 409 Men Don't Need to Pick Up

Aurelia felt like she was living a dream as her thoughts drifted back.

She thought she could groom him into a kind and approachable CEO, so the young women in the company would all vote for him and no longer find him aloof and unapproachable.

The weather was cooling down as fall approached, no longer stiflingly hot.

A cool breeze blew in the evening, and the hem of Aurelia's dress fluttered against his leg, making a rustling sound.

Nathaniel let her lead him into the bustling street market.

Although this was Coral Bay's snack street, it had a wide variety of snacks from all over the country.

Aurelia immediately spotted a sign for grilled chicken wings flashing with lights. Just seeing those words made her feel like she could already smell the aroma of the chicken wings.

"Two grilled chicken wings, please," Aurelia said, then glanced at Nathaniel. The two made eye contact.

She added, "I didn't eat much either, so I'll join you."

Nathaniel raised his phone to pay, but Aurelia beat him to it. "We agreed, I'm treating today."

Nathaniel smiled, feeling for the first time like he was being pampered by a wealthy patron.

Soon, the vendor handed over two packed orders of grilled chicken wings. Aurelia opened one and took a bite, handing the other to Nathaniel.

Nathaniel hesitated and asked, "Eat it now?"

He thought she would buy everything and take it to a quiet place to eat, but she started eating the moment she got it.

Aurelia swallowed her bite of chicken and smiled, "You don't know, street food is best enjoyed while walking. It loses its flavor if you take it home. Try it?"

Aurelia opened Nathaniel's portion for him, but Nathaniel's eyes were fixed on her already bitten piece.

"I think yours tastes better."

Aurelia pouted, "This one has my saliva on it."

"I don't mind."

Nathaniel took the bitten piece and took another bite from the same spot, raising his eyebrows in surprise at the taste.

He was shocked to find such delicious food at an unassuming stall.

Aurelia couldn't wait to ask, "How does it taste, Mr. Heilbronn? Is it good? Has it changed your impression of street food?"

Nathaniel deliberately said, "It's just okay, I think it's average."

Despite his words, he quickly finished the chicken wing. Aurelia didn't bother arguing and continued to drag him forward, confident that this street had more stalls to conquer his taste buds.

Aurelia bought hot dogs, fried corn, fries, and fish sticks along the way. When she saw a stall selling durian ice cream, she walked over.

Nathaniel, feeling full, noticed Aurelia's eyes light up at the durian ice cream and tried to dissuade her.

"Aurelia, I don't think you should buy that."

He was usually picky and avoided anything with a strong smell.

Aurelia forgot about his quirk and didn't pay much attention, "Are you full? Then I'll just get one for myself."

She rushed to the stall, and Nathaniel stood with his hands on his hips, not daring to follow, fearing the strong smell would cling to his clothes.

He couldn't understand how Aurelia seemed to transform at the snack street, her appetite growing immensely, while at home, she could barely eat more vegetables.

Although the street food tasted good, he still thought home-cooked meals were more hygienic and nutritious. But letting her indulge a bit was fine.

When Aurelia returned with a box of durian ice cream, Nathaniel was still lost in thought.

The strong smell wafted towards him, making his brow twitch. He hesitated, wondering if he should keep his distance. He was afraid of upsetting her.

But he really couldn't stand the smell.

Aurelia, immune to the smell, enjoyed her ice cream and offered Nathaniel a spoonful, "Want to try a bite?"

Nathaniel stepped back in fright, then realized he overreacted, "Aurelia, I'm full."

Aurelia couldn't help but laugh, "Durian ice cream scares you this much? If I had known, I would have put durian ice cream in your bowl every time we argued."

Nathaniel felt wronged, "You won't put durian ice cream in my bowl in the future, right?"

As they talked, Aurelia ate half of the durian ice cream. She felt it was a pity that Nathaniel saw such delicious food as something strange.

"Are you sure you don't want to try? You'll regret it for life."

Nathaniel held his forehead, "No, you go ahead."

"Alright."

Aurelia quickly finished the remaining ice cream. She felt that as long as she held the durian ice cream box, he wouldn't come near her. It was too weird for them to keep their distance while walking down the street.

After throwing away the box, Aurelia took out a wet wipe from her bag to clean her hands. They had almost walked the entire snack street.

Nathaniel, feeling full, hooked his finger around her palm, "Aurelia, Grandpa arrived on the same flight as me."

Aurelia stopped in her tracks, "Why didn't you tell me Grandpa was coming? I could have made time to pick him up!"

Nathaniel paused. It wasn't that he didn't want to tell her, but the situation wasn't suitable for her to be there. Reed came with the intention of taking Marcus home and wasn't in the mood for a reunion.

This matter involved Aurelia, and he was worried it might cause family discord.

Nathaniel was giving her a heads-up, "Aurelia, Uncle Marcus is out. It was Grandpa's decision. We went straight to the police station after landing. Grandpa brought Uncle Marcus's medical diagnosis; he has severe bipolar disorder."

Aurelia wondered what kind of illness that was. "Is he diagnosed?"

Nathaniel nodded, "He saw a doctor once, but only once. The doctor knows Grandpa and told him about Marcus's condition. Do you blame me and Grandpa?"

He wondered if Aurelia would blame him for not telling her in advance about releasing the man who had once kidnapped her.

Nathaniel watched Aurelia's expression closely, relieved to see she wasn't upset.

Aurelia asked, "So, he always knew he had a mental problem?"

"Yes."

Indeed, it was hard to wake someone pretending to be asleep.

They walked a bit further, and Aurelia suddenly remembered he mentioned Reed, "So, you left Grandpa alone to come find me?"

"No, I had Zack take Grandpa home and then took a cab to find you."

Aurelia nodded, satisfied with his arrangement. Otherwise, she would have felt guilty if he had left Reed on the street.

Nathaniel saw through her thoughts, "So, if Grandpa comes, you'll pick me up, but if I come alone, you won't?"

"You're not a child. I'm not worried about you getting lost. Men don't need to be picked up from the airport."

Can't win me back
