Chapter 388 Saw Nathaniel
Aurelia choked on her soup and coughed a few times. "No, no one."
She continued eating with her head down.
Cathy shook her head and sighed, "I'm getting old and don't have the energy to look after you all. Your sister is raising children alone, which isn't easy. You must help her more, whether it's with work or life. Even if I'm not around one day, you still need to be good to your sister, understand?"
Joe placed one hand on the table, his expression becoming serious. "Did something happen?"
Cathy's words made him think more. This sister, who was so hard to find, was naturally the family's treasure. How could he not protect her?
He asked, "Is Nathaniel bothering you again?"
Aurelia felt helpless, sensing more misunderstandings, and quickly changed the topic. "No, Grandma wants to set me up with someone."
Joe's expression relaxed. "Oh, that."
He seemed to ponder for a moment before saying, "Don't worry, Grandma. I'll handle this. Becoming my sister's husband isn't easy; I'll make sure of that."
Aurelia felt frustrated. She just wanted to change the topic, but now another person was added to the team trying to set her up. She didn't dare to say she wanted to give it another try with Nathaniel.
Given the current situation, saying anything would only provoke strong opposition from her grandma and brother. It wasn't the right time.
"Brother, I can't deal with this right now. I need to focus on my career."
Joe raised an eyebrow, agreeing with Aurelia's words. "Right, your career is just starting. You can't let this skill go to waste; you need to achieve something quickly. If you need anything, just let me know. Our family has money and connections; there's nothing we can't accomplish. If you have any other interests, you can develop those too."
Aurelia's eyelid twitched, thinking her brother was treating her like a kindergartener, even wanting to develop her hobbies.
"Brother, I know. I'll come to you if I have any difficulties."
Cathy looked relieved. "Good to know you have support. You're not fighting alone; you need to learn to rely on others. Otherwise, what's the point of having a brother?"
Joe reassured Cathy again, "Don't worry, Grandma. I'll protect my sister for life. As long as I'm around, no one will dare to bully her."
Cathy finally smiled brightly. "That's right, that's what family is for. At my age, I don't have many desires. I just hope the younger generation lives well. Your sister isn't young anymore. You have a wide network; keep an eye out for outstanding men to introduce to her. I trust your judgment."
The topic circled back to this.
Aurelia sped up her eating, really fearing Cathy would arrange a blind date for her the next day. She had no energy to deal with those pointless social interactions.
After finishing her meal, Aurelia quickly left the place.
The next day was the weekend. After a day of rest at home, she had to start work on Monday.
Aurelia woke up in the morning and, as usual, checked her phone. The red number on the Facebook icon startled her; she had received dozens of messages early in the morning.
She opened them to find a bombardment of messages from Ulysses.
[Aurelia, are you up? Check out this video.]
[Reply to me immediately when you see it!]
[Something happened. Don't sleep. I saw that woman. Wasn't she taken away by the police? How is she causing trouble again?]
Aurelia rubbed her sleepy eyes and opened the video Ulysses sent. Seeing the familiar face in the video, she was instantly wide awake.
It was a short video exposed on a social media platform, showing Ashley publicly assaulting a pregnant woman, causing her to go into early labor. The sight of the person that Ashley was protecting made Aurelia's blood run cold.
She had seen the police take Chelsea away with her own eyes and received the sentencing result from the police. Chelsea was sentenced to three years, and she had slowly come to terms with it.
But why was that woman still out there? Wasn't she supposed to be locked up?
As she continued watching, Aurelia couldn't stay calm. For a split second, the video flashed another familiar face.
Even if it was just for a second, she would never mistake that superior face.
She couldn't imagine that just after she left, Nathaniel appeared in the same video with Chelsea.
When they parted, it was so emotional. Was he just acting for her?
Aurelia felt a pang in her heart, remembering how she called him right after getting off the plane yesterday, and he didn't answer but hung up. She thought he might be in a meeting or handling some important company matter. Now she felt a bit ridiculous.
After the video ended, Ulysses bombarded her with more messages.
[Aurelia, I found the truth in the comments. Chelsea is pregnant. Ashley was accompanying her for a prenatal checkup and got into a dispute with another pregnant woman, which was recorded by bystanders.]
[Aurelia, I saw Nathaniel.]
Aurelia watched the video again, noticing the electronic bracelet on Chelsea's hand, and had a rough idea.
That cunning woman was lucky to be pregnant at this time.
Aurelia read Ulysses' messages one by one, feeling overwhelmed by the shocking news. She couldn't process it all at once.
The criminal involved in her attempted murder was free, even arrogantly bullying other pregnant women.
Aurelia didn't reply to Ulysses. The next second, he called her on video. "Aurelia, did that woman escape from prison? Should we call the police?"
"She might be on probation."
"Fuck!"
Ulysses was extremely shocked. "How is this woman pregnant? Does she have some kind of foresight ability? Getting pregnant at this time, she can get probation. How is she so lucky? It's so unfair!"
Aurelia's face was pale. She had just come to terms with Chelsea's three-year sentence, and now that woman was free again. If she behaved well, she might not even face much punishment and could continue causing harm.
"Ulysses, my mind is a mess. Give me a moment."
Ulysses stopped ranting and fell silent, thinking of how to comfort Aurelia. Oscar squeezed into the screen.
"Aurelia, don't worry. If Nathaniel dares to have any contact with that woman again, I'll blow his head off. Don't worry, I'll call him right now. I've got your back."
Oscar picked up his phone to dial, but no one answered after a ring.
Oscar cursed a few more times and finally comforted Aurelia. "Aurelia, don't worry. If I can't reach him by phone, I'll stake out his office. I won't sleep until I find him and get you an explanation."
At that moment, Nathaniel was sleeping at Mark's house.
After Aurelia left with the children, he felt unwell and drove straight to Mark's house.
Mark gave him some counseling, and he finally fell asleep in the middle of the night, unaware of what was happening outside. His phone was almost dead from all the calls, and if Mark hadn't put it on silent, he wouldn't have had a chance to sleep.
