Chapter 316 Can You Not Leave?

Aurelia said, "Then just leave it at home."

Nathaniel asked, "Aurelia, do you want to pick a bag?"

Aurelia looked up. The wall cabinet reached the ceiling, and each compartment was stuffed with bags, most still with tags. She needed a stool to reach the top compartments.

"Nathaniel, these bag styles are a bit outdated now."

Aurelia spoke the truth. Women's bags aren't really for carrying things, they're just fashion accessories. Those bags were expensive, and some were even limited editions from back then, but that didn't change the fact that they were already outdated.

Just like their marriage, no matter how much she cherished the relationship four years ago, it couldn't go back to the way it was after everything that happened.

Love really couldn't be preserved, especially when only one person was making an effort.

Their relationship had a time lag.

When she loved him deeply, he didn't understand his own feelings, which led to numerous misunderstandings between them.

And by the time she no longer had the courage to start over with him those painful memories were still vivid in her mind.

Nathaniel's throat tightened as he saw the bright red spider lilies on her shoulder.

He imagined what kind of mindset she had when she chose to tattoo such a sorrowful flower on her body. She probably never wanted to see him again.

"Aurelia, is there really no chance?"

Aurelia fell silent.

At this moment, Betty called from outside the door,

"Mr. Heilbronn, Mrs. Heilbronn, the late-night snack is ready. Please come down and eat."

Aurelia composed herself and walked out of the room, heading downstairs. Betty walked ahead, excitedly reporting her achievement.

"Mrs. Heilbronn, you wouldn't believe it, the lotus you brought back from the flower shop has bloomed. It bloomed once in the spring, and now I see new buds coming out. I told you not to throw it away; plants are like people, you can't rush them, you have to take your time."

Aurelia didn't know if Betty was implying something. When they used to argue, she would always cautiously try to mediate. She didn't have any bad intentions and was quite sincere.

Reed had sent her, and Aurelia quite liked her.

Aurelia had personally picked out that pot of lotus flowers. After bringing it home, the leaves started to yellow after a while. She had a gardener come to take care of it, and it barely survived, not blooming for two years.

In a fit of anger, Aurelia wanted to throw it away, but Betty persuaded her not to. She said to give them more time as the flower probably hadn't yet gotten used to the environment.

Aurelia smiled and said,

"It really did bloom!"

Betty had already served the food in the small dining room, with two sets of utensils neatly arranged. The two of them used to like sitting across from each other, so she set the utensils that way.

Betty took out her phone and showed Aurelia a photo and said,

"Mrs. Heilbronn, look how beautiful the flower is. It's a pity you missed the last blooming period, but don't worry, it's about to bloom again."

Aurelia picked up a small spoon, absentmindedly sipping the soup. Nathaniel sat across from her, staring at her intently as she ate.

Such a scene was rare for Nathaniel. He wished they could live like this from now on, free from misunderstandings and painful memories.

Aurelia sensed the gaze above her and looked up, meeting his eyes.

"Can I go see your study?" She asked.

Nathaniel smiled and said,

"This is your home, why wouldn't you be able to?"

She could even tear down the study, and no one would dare say a word.

After finishing their meal, they went upstairs and turned on the light in the study.

The bookshelf was packed with books, even single one on its place. Aurelia felt the familiar texture of the desk. Aurelia ran her fingers over the familiar texture of the desk. She used to sit here and draw while he was at work, filling the drawers with her sketches and pens.

She gently opened the drawer, and her things were still there, untouched.

"Nathaniel, there's something I've never understood. How did my sketches end up in Chelsea's hands? When I finished them, she hadn't even started working at the Heilbronn Group. Did she..."

Before she could finish, Nathaniel interrupted,

"She never came to our house."

Nathaniel answered quickly, his voice a few decibels higher.

"Aurelia, she never came to our house, so don't worry. Your sketches probably got mixed in with my documents. Later, I thought about it carefully. She might have seen them in my files and stolen them."

Aurelia believed this explanation. Chelsea was capable of such shameless acts.

"Aurelia, I'm sorry."

Nathaniel apologized for the stolen sketches.

"It was my fault for not keeping them safe."

The study had a small balcony. Aurelia opened the door and walked out, looking closely at the night sky. A lone crescent moon hung in the dark sky.

Nathaniel followed her, saying,

"Aurelia, can you not leave?"

Aurelia's foot slipped, and she almost fell.

Nathaniel quickly went over to support her and asked,

"Are you okay? Did you twist your ankle?"

Aurelia's vision was still a bit dark. She had been anemic since giving birth and sometimes fainted. Recently, she had been too busy to eat properly. In Coral Bay, someone was always watching her, so she couldn't escape.

She took a moment and said,

"I'm fine, I want to go back."

Nathaniel was silent for a while before speaking.

"Okay, I'll take you back now."

Before leaving, Aurelia took her handmade wind chime.

Betty had just finished cleaning the kitchen when she saw the couple changing their shoes at the door again. She had waited four years for this house to feel a bit more lively.

"Mrs. Heilbronn, Mr. Heilbronn, are you leaving?"

Aurelia nodded and said,

"Yes, Betty."

Betty panicked a bit, saying,

"Are you not staying here anymore? Is it because my cooking isn't good? Mrs. Heilbronn, I can learn to cook anything you want!"

Aurelia paused for a moment,

"Betty, your cooking is very good."

"Then why aren't you staying here? Will you come back tomorrow?" Betty asked.

Aurelia's expression stiffened, not knowing how to answer.

Nathaniel looked her, hoping she would give Betty a definite answer.

After a few seconds, Aurelia regretfully said,

"Betty, I'm staying at my mom's house now. I have work tomorrow, so I won't be coming back. It's late, you should rest."

Nathaniel had guessed she would answer this way, but hearing it from her still made him feel upset.

Betty's eyes dimmed for a second, then she asked Nathaniel,

"Mr. Heilbronn, will you come back tomorrow?"

Nathaniel shook his head. If she wasn't there, what was the point of coming back?

They left, leaving Betty alone in the big villa.

Aurelia got into the car and received a message from Ulysses.

[Aurelia, there's news from Thompson Enterprises. My friend said they've booked the Royal Elven Suites and are planning to hold this year's annual meeting three days from now. It's mainly because Chelsea wants to celebrate getting the management rights.]

Aurelia looked at the calendar. It was only August. Which company held their annual meeting in August? Aren't they usually at the end of the year?"

Chelsea really couldn't wait.
