Chapter 381 All Medicine

Aurelia's question suddenly made the atmosphere in the car tense.

She couldn't help but glance sideways at the driver's seat. It happened to be a red light, and Nathaniel was staring straight ahead, his large hand gripping the steering wheel, his face expressionless, giving no hint of what he was thinking.

A few seconds later, Joe on the other end of the phone gave an answer.

"Conditions vary from person to person. You know our family's atmosphere. Your future partner, whether poor or ugly, as long as you like them, I won't object. But remember one thing: their character must be good, and they absolutely cannot have the last name Heilbronn!"

Joe's last sentence made Aurelia's heart tighten. She was about to tentatively mention Nathaniel, but hearing Joe's firm attitude, she swallowed her words.

She didn't dare bring it up for now. She decided to first improve Nathaniel's image in front of her family before making any plans. "Joe, I have to go. Dorothy is sleepy."

Aurelia used Dorothy as an excuse and quickly hung up the phone. She didn't know if continuing the conversation would give her away.

After hanging up, the car no longer had the relaxed atmosphere from before.

Aurelia secretly observed Nathaniel's expression, which was the same as before. Her tense heart gradually relaxed; it was good that he hadn't heard.

The car soon arrived back at the house. Nathaniel got out and carried Dorothy down, but Jacob wouldn't let him touch him and insisted on getting out by himself. The family of four went back inside.

The two kids played with toys in the living room while Nathaniel changed into casual clothes and went into the study.

Aurelia opened the fridge and saw that there wasn't much food. They hadn't eaten at home over the weekend and hadn't had time to shop. A few minutes later, she knocked on the study door.

Nathaniel was on the phone. Aurelia stood at the door for a moment, waiting for him to finish before entering.

Nathaniel extended his arm, pulling her over and onto his lap, his chin resting in the crook of her neck. After a long pause, he asked, "Aurelia, what are the conditions in your family?"

Aurelia inexplicably tensed up. "No, no conditions."

Nathaniel had overheard her phone conversation in the car. She hadn't put it on speaker, but the car was quiet. Joe's attitude was as he had expected.

Nathaniel understood that winning Aurelia back would be very difficult.

He sniffed at her neck. "Aurelia, please don't leave me again."

He actually had no sense of security. When he lost her, he was in utter despair. When he met her again, his world suddenly lit up.

He lived in fear every day, worried that she wouldn't want to talk to him. Now that their relationship had progressed, he was afraid she would leave him the next second.

Aurelia felt like she was sitting on a hot iron, her body tingling as if electrified. She was stunned for a few seconds and then tried to stand up. As soon as she moved, the grip around her waist tightened.

Nathaniel held her tightly in his arms, his warm lips brushing against her ear.

He knew exactly how sensitive her ears were.

Aurelia shrank back, and Nathaniel's kiss followed.

She dodged, and he pursued.

He easily pried open her lips, their tongues entwining.

This intimate scene was not unfamiliar. Aurelia's eyes became misty, her mind filled with memories of their past passionate lovemaking.

Nathaniel kissed her tenderly, whispering in her ear during the brief moments he pulled away, "Don't leave me, Aurelia. Let's be together forever!"

Aurelia was so aroused by him that her clothes became disheveled.

When they both calmed down, Aurelia noticed that his eyes were red, his face pale, and a thin layer of sweat on his forehead glistened in the sunlight, making him look somewhat sickly. However, the arm around her waist showed no sign of relaxing.

Aurelia raised her hand to wipe his forehead. "Are you feeling unwell?"

Nathaniel held back. It had been a while since he had an episode. He even thought he was cured. He tried to calm down. "I'm fine."

Aurelia could feel his body stiffen, and her waist hurt from his grip. "Are you sure you're okay? Do you need to lie down for a bit?"

Nathaniel's forehead was still sweating. He rested his chin on her shoulder, their faces touching, trying to calm down. After a few seconds, he suddenly let go of Aurelia, stood up, and rushed to the bathroom, followed by the sound of violent vomiting.

Aurelia chased after him, worried to death.

"Nathaniel, what's wrong with you?"

Nathaniel felt a bit better after vomiting. This reaction was quite severe, possibly because he had neglected to take his medication recently. He thought that having her by his side would make his psychological issues disappear, but it seemed they still persisted.

Seeing Aurelia's worried face, Nathaniel pulled her hand and smiled.

"Aurelia, it's okay. It's an old problem, nothing to worry about." He tried to comfort her.

Aurelia angrily said, "Don't take it lightly. If you're unwell, go to the hospital. I don't want our kids to be without a father."

Nathaniel squeezed her hand. "It's a psychological issue, I won't die."

He didn't dare to tell her that he was actually much better now. The year she left, he barely slept normally and often relied on medication.

Even when he did sleep, he was plagued by nightmares, waking up in the middle of the night unable to distinguish between reality and illusion.

Now, at least he was clear-headed.

If it weren't for Mark's excellent medical skills, he would be a regular in a mental hospital by now.

Aurelia helped Nathaniel back to the bedroom, watching him lie down on the bed.

"Do you really not need to go to the hospital?"

Nathaniel shook his head bitterly. His condition wasn't something that could be cured overnight; it required slow adjustment. Being able to recover to this extent was already a blessing.

This episode was probably triggered by the thought of Aurelia taking the kids back to Coral Bay next week. He understood that she had family and work in Coral Bay, but there was still a nagging voice in his head reminding him that she was going to leave.

He feared that everything in front of him was just a dream and that once they separated, she would change her mind and not want him anymore. "I just need to rest for a bit."

Aurelia swallowed. "Do you really not need to take some medication?"

"I could take some." Nathaniel pointed to a suitcase in the corner. After hanging up his clothes, he hadn't opened it again.

"The medication is in the suitcase. Could you get it for me?"

Aurelia readily opened the suitcase. It was relatively empty, with only a small black bag inside. She glanced at Nathaniel, then took out the small bag.

Opening the zipper, she found it full of medication.

She took out the bottles one by one, placing them by the bed. There were over a dozen in total, and her face looked even worse than Nathaniel's.

She read the labels on each bottle, her body gradually stiffening.

She knew he had psychological issues, but she didn't realize it was this severe.

All the medications were for treating psychological disorders. Just reading the labels made her throat tighten.

"Which one should you take?" She didn't realize her eyes were already red.

Can't win me back
