Chapter 259 Adorable Child
The whole Chelsea thing was a real mess for him. Dude would wake up drenched in sweat, haunted by visions of himself begging Reed for mercy or kneeling at Aurelia's grave, spilling his guts.
He seriously regretted that night at Chelsea's place. Ever since, he swore off getting hammered around women.
Now, this guy told him it was all a setup by Chelsea.
He never fuck that crazy chick. He was clean.
Nathaniel felt a weird sense of relief, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
The guy noticed Nathaniel wasn't even mad, didn't care that his woman supposedly slept with someone else. What a weirdo.
"Nathaniel, how's it feel? I fuck your woman countless times. Does that get you going?"
Nathaniel casually crossed his legs, looking smug.
"Chelsea was never my woman, so why should I be angry? Liking someone like Chelsea must be a nightmare, right? She's intense. Ever threaten you with the kid in her womb?"
The guy lost it and lunged at Nathaniel.
When he found out he was gonna be a dad, he was over the moon. He told his folks they were getting a new family member. They even set up a nursery, bought a crib, toys, and his mom hand-sewed baby clothes.
He thought with Chelsea pregnant, he could control her. He planned to marry her, but before he could pop the question, Chelsea's cold words crushed him.
"Remy, get out of my sight or I'll abort this kid. You know I mean it. Try me."
Remy Hawthorne cared too much about the kid to risk pissing Chelsea off. He didn't dare show his face or contact her. He just hung around her place, watching her belly grow.
He couldn't risk his kid to provoke Chelsea.
When he found out it was a boy, he even went to church to offer prayers. His family only had one male heir per generation, and he had crappy sperm. Having a boy was a miracle.
He couldn't wait for the kid to be born, but things went south. The son he dreamed of never made it, due to a single pill from the guy in front of him.
If the kid had been born, he'd be handsome, with Chelsea's eyes and hair, and his nose and skin color.
Remy's endless pain was all because of this smooth-talking guy. Nathaniel was the executioner who took his son away.
Remy shouted, "Nathaniel, I don't buy that you didn't love her. If you didn't, why'd you let her blackmail you and care so much about her?"
Nathaniel's brow twitched, and he said, "I used to care because I owed her. Now she's taken my two kids. I'm gonna settle this. What's your son compared to my kids?"
Remy was quiet for a few seconds, then looked at Nathaniel mockingly and laughed.
Lately, he'd been staying with his cousin. By chance, his cousin's kid had a spat with another kid in kindergarten, and he played chauffeur for his cousin and her husband. Then Remy found out the other kid's parent was Aurelia.
He'd recognize that woman even if she was nothing but ashes. She had a hand in his kid's death, so why should her kid get to live?
Remy roamed around Coral Bay for days, fuming. He hit up the black market and bought the cheapest timed bomb he could find, planning to take out Aurelia.
From what Nathaniel said, it was clear he had no clue his two kids were alive. He thought they never made it.
Remy felt a bit sorry for Nathaniel, stuck between two women and not getting real love from either. At least Remy had experienced Chelsea's body and those wild moments with her.
Even someone like Nathaniel, with all his status and power, had his share of bad luck. He might not even recognize his own kids if they crossed paths.
All of this was karma.
Thinking about it, Remy laughed like a maniac.
Nathaniel was feeling good, but he still had revenge on his mind. He hadn't forgotten that this guy almost made him lose Aurelia again.
He wasn't gonna let anyone who hurt Aurelia get away with it.
"Break his legs and toss him into the sea."
He flicked his cigarette butt to the ground and crushed it with his toe. Holding his phone, he walked towards the exit, ignoring the screams behind him. His heart was racing; he couldn't wait to tell the person he cared about the most the truth.
Back in the car, he got a voice message on Facebook.
Dorothy said, "My mommy didn't come home last night. I called her, but she didn't answer. Did she go to find my daddy?"
Upon hearing the sleepy tone, Nathaniel couldn't help but picture the cute little girl's fair face. He wanted to say it was normal, but then he remembered that the kid's dad was Joe and took a pity onher mom.
Nathaniel: [Dorothy, is someone with you at home? Mommy went to patch things up with that bad man. You gotta stop her, okay?]
As soon as he sent the message, Dorothy replied.
[Got it. I have standards for my daddy. Not just anyone can be my daddy.]
Nathaniel felt a wave of relief. That jerk Joe had a bad character, but the kid was pretty sharp.
Nathaniel: [Dorothy, you're awesome!]
Nathaniel sent the message and then replayed Dorothy's previous voice message, not realizing the smile on his face.
He used to think kids were too noisy and didn't like them. Now he thought having a daughter would be great, someone as beautiful and lively as Dorothy, the cutest thing in the world.
He even imagined the scene of the kid calling him daddy. The picture was just too perfect.
The night before, the two kids hadn't waited for Aurelia to come home and were put to bed by Dahlia.
By noon, Aurelia still hadn't come back. Dahlia couldn't reach her by phone and felt something was off. She risked getting scolded and knocked on Joe's door.
Joe didn't want to bother his family and went downstairs alone.
He'd been investigating all night and only found some useful info by dawn. Aurelia had been admitted to the hospital, and it was Nathaniel who took her there. His assistant gave him the news, and he immediately changed clothes and drove to the hospital to pick her up.
Coincidentally, Aurelia was coming out of the hospital, standing by the curb trying to hail a cab.
