Chapter 454 There's No Mistress

Nathaniel tightly held Aurelia's hand, interlocking their fingers.

"Sorry, I have a girlfriend. It's not appropriate for me to be in contact with other women. Stop sending me those messages; my girlfriend will get jealous."

Lori stomped her foot in anger. "Nathaniel, how can you talk to a girl like that?"

"Sorry, but to me, everyone except my girlfriend is genderless."

Lori felt humiliated. She had been chasing after him day and night, only to find out he didn't even see her as a woman. The sexy photos she had sent now felt like an insult.

Lori said, "Nathaniel! This woman flirts with everyone. How can you protect her like that? She doesn't deserve it!"

Nathaniel's expression immediately turned menacing.

"Lori, I suggest you take back what you just said. To ruin a woman's reputation with such venomous words—are you even a woman?"

Lori was so scared she shut her mouth. If Nathaniel got angry, he could really ruin her.

Lori reluctantly left, leaving Nathaniel and Aurelia alone.

Aurelia asked him again, "What did she send you?"

Nathaniel touched his nose and said, "Nothing much, just some work photos. I deleted them without looking."

Aurelia guessed that they weren't ordinary photos. Lori wouldn't have come over to ask if they were. It was clear she wanted to make sure Aurelia misunderstood.

"How do you know it was from her if you didn't look?"

Nathaniel, cornered, confessed quietly, "She recently did an underwear ad. They were work photos."

Nathaniel quickly tried to explain, "I deleted them as soon as I got them. You heard me; I blocked her on Facebook and her phone number. I didn't provoke her, I swear!"

Aurelia kept a straight face, then chuckled after a while.

"Your face really does cause me trouble."

Nathaniel didn't deny it; he knew his face wasn't ordinary.

"I can't help it. Look, I rejected her as directly as I could!"

Nathaniel was helpless. He had no intention of attracting those women, especially not in front of Aurelia. How many durians would he have to kneel on at home?

"Aurelia, you're not mad at me, are you?"

"Even if I were, I wouldn't make a scene here. We'll talk at home."

Nathaniel, anxious, reached out to help her with her bag, his eyes involuntarily scanning her.

Aurelia asked, "Why are you looking at me so lecherously?"

Nathaniel's throat tightened. "Aurelia, you're so beautiful. I want to take you home and have you all to myself."

"It's a pity that dress got ruined. It wasn't cheap, was it?"

"It's just a dress. If it's ruined, it's ruined. As long as you're okay."

They chatted as they walked, encountering many of Nathaniel's business acquaintances along the way. He exchanged pleasantries while Aurelia listened.

At this party, no one knew if Madeline had a happy birthday, but everyone knew Nathaniel was no longer single; Aurelia had returned.

This broke the hearts of many socialites in Imperick.

Now, no one had a chance.

After the party, Nathaniel was about to take Aurelia back to the Bloom Villa, but they were stopped by Dominic at the door.

"Mr. Heilbronn, Ms. Semona, do you have a moment to talk?"

It was getting late, and Dominic, known as a gentleman in the wealthy circle, added, "It won't take long."

Nathaniel and Aurelia exchanged a glance and replied, "Mr. Sawyer, is there something you want to say?"

Dominic hesitated, organizing his thoughts.

"I have an old acquaintance who looks a lot like Ms. Semona. I couldn't help but ask if you know her. Sorry for being abrupt..."

Aurelia immediately thought of her mother.

"Mr. Sawyer, are you talking about my mom, Brenda?"

Dominic's eyes flickered.

"You two are mother and daughter? No wonder..."

Dominic seemed lost in thought. This was the umpteenth time Aurelia had seen him like this tonight, as if he had lost his soul.

Aurelia asked, "Mr. Sawyer, my mom..."

Before she could finish, a servant came to call him.

"Mr. Sawyer, Mrs. Madeline Sawyer wants to see you."

Dominic snapped back to reality and saw them off.

"Let's leave it at that for today. Thank you for coming to my mom's birthday party. Come over for dinner sometime."

With that, Dominic turned and walked back to the villa.

Madeline was in the hall, unwrapping gifts, holding a bracelet in deep thought.

Dominic walked in and asked, "Mom, what's up?"

Madeline showed him the bracelet. "Look at this."

Dominic was stunned. It was something he had given away years ago, a Sawyer family heirloom, now returned to the Sawyer family.

"Who sent this?"

"I don't know. A page of the gift list was accidentally destroyed by a servant, so we don't know who sent it."

Dominic took a deep breath and sat down, silent. He already had a good idea who sent it. He knew exactly who he had given it to.

Who else but Aurelia?

He took the bracelet from Madeline and gently caressed it, as if reminiscing about a love that ended without a result.

Madeline, tidying up the other gifts, sighed.

"Who is it that you're still thinking about? Just tell us. The Sawyer family can afford to marry anyone. Look at you and your son. I'm getting old and still haven't seen a woman join this family. You're both useless."

Phoenix, having just finished a game, overheard Madeline. "Don't drag me into this. I'm only in my twenties; I'm not in a hurry to get married!"

Madeline snorted. "If you're like your father, there's nothing I can do. I've been anxious my whole life, and what for? I still have to run this household, and there's no mistress. Your mother was pitiful, leaving after giving birth to you."

Madeline rambled on about her years of hardship. "Go find out, who else at eighty still has to manage a household?"

Phoenix scratched his head. "You should ask Dad. It's not my fault."

Dominic, holding the bracelet, felt his eyes moisten. It wasn't that he didn't want to marry; he just couldn't.

His biggest regret in life was falling in love with a woman who already had a family.

All he could do was watch from the shadows, seeing her struggle in a miserable life. He had tried to fight for himself but was thoroughly rejected.

Can't win me back
