Chapter 432 Can You Care for Me?

Aurelia tidied up the kitchen, took off her apron, and walked out.

"Where's your first aid kit? Let me take a look at your knee."

Nathaniel snapped back to reality. He had told this lie just to satisfy his own selfish desire, never expecting her to take it so seriously.

"I haven't lived in this house for long, so I haven't prepared a first aid kit. Aurelia, it's fine. Come and rest for a bit."

"I'm not tired. Let me disinfect it first."

As she spoke, Aurelia rummaged through the living room cabinet and found a box with a red cross on it, examining it up and down. "Isn't this a first aid kit?"

Nathaniel's throat tightened. Indeed, one lie required a hundred more to cover it up. "I forgot I had one."

Aurelia didn't notice his discomfort and brought the first aid kit over, ready to roll up his pant leg on the sofa.

Nathaniel couldn't stop her. His black dress pants were rolled up to his knee.

Aurelia stared at his lean calf in a daze.

"Nathaniel, you lied to me!"

Nathaniel didn't dare to meet her eyes. Her voice had a commanding presence, as if telling him, "Nathaniel, you're done for! Daring to lie to me, don't even think about getting away with it in this lifetime!"

Aurelia's voice grew louder. "Your knee is perfectly fine, not even a scratch. Why did you lie?"

Nathaniel's scalp tingled, his brain working rapidly. He imagined how Zack would handle this situation. His incompetent assistant would probably kneel on the sofa, clutching his wife's arm, crying and begging for forgiveness, and repeating 'I love you' a thousand times.

He couldn't bring himself to do that; it felt too cheesy.

"Aurelia..."

Nathaniel called her name helplessly, explaining his mindset when he lied.

"I miss the days when you cared about me. I wanted you to worry about me, to take care of me. Can you care for me a little?"

Aurelia licked her lips. This version of Nathaniel had none of the domineering aura of a CEO; he was humbly seeking love. She suddenly remembered his weak state when he was ill in Imperick. He was so strong-willed that it made people forget he was also a patient.

Aurelia was lost in thought for a few seconds and then hugged him. "How have you been lately? Any insomnia? Have you vomited? Are you still taking your medication?"

Nathaniel, like a fragile husband, weak and unable to take care of himself, only showed his vulnerable side to her.

"You asked so many questions at once, I don't know which one to answer first."

"Then answer them one by one, so I know."

She cared for him, but in Nathaniel's heart, he always felt their relationship hadn't returned to what it used to be. She was willing to try to accept him but had set up a self-protective barrier deep within her that no one could breach.

"I've been okay lately. I have insomnia when I miss you, haven't vomited. I've been taking the medication the doctor prescribed; I need to continue for six months."

Aurelia patted his back, as if comforting him.

"If you feel unwell, tell me. If you're unhappy, you can also tell me. I won't ignore you."

Nathaniel felt a deep sense of warmth in his heart and whispered in her ear, "You have to manage two companies, take care of two kids, and handle so many things. Can I still have more than half the place in your heart that I used to?"

Aurelia was taken aback. Honestly, not even half.

Before, Nathaniel occupied her entire heart, and her life revolved around him. Now, at least more than half was given to the two kids, another part to the company, and the rest to him.

She couldn't bring herself to lie to him, to pretend to comfort him, but she also feared the truth would hurt him.

Aurelia remained silent.

Nathaniel chuckled softly and pulled her onto his lap.

What more could he ask for? As long as she had him in her heart, that was enough. Thinking back to those four years, he had lived like a walking corpse. Now, being able to find her again and rebuild their relationship was already a blessing.

"Aurelia, as long as you have me in your heart, that's enough. I'm not greedy, but I hope you are. You should demand that I have only you in my heart. I want to give you everything. Do you want to feel it?"

He placed her hand on his chest, looking at her intently.

Aurelia's eyes grew warm. Under her palm was his strong heartbeat, each beat touching her palm, heating every nerve. She felt her once dormant heart start to beat in rhythm.

"Nathaniel, I might be a bit passive and can't respond to you much right now, but I'll try to overcome my own barriers and keep up with you. Please wait for me."

Nathaniel chuckled, his chest vibrating slightly.

"Aurelia, I told you before, in the hundred steps between us, you only need to take one. I'll take the remaining ninety-nine."

Aurelia looked at him with teary eyes, memories flashing through her mind like a movie.

She was someone who valued appearance greatly. The first time she saw him, she was captivated by his cold, handsome face and noble demeanor.

Now, rekindling this relationship took all her courage.

She felt both unwillingness and an indelible affection for him.

"Aurelia, trust me."

Nathaniel whispered in her ear and kissed her lips.

Aurelia felt his passion and responded bit by bit. She had once pursued love with reckless courage, only to become guarded and distant after getting hurt.

She needed his warmth to be transmitted bit by bit, feeling his slow love flow into her chest, warming her body.

She had once revolved around him for three years, hoping he would give her a bit more time and attention. Back then, she longed for even a sliver of love from him.

Now, their roles were completely reversed.

Nathaniel felt her response, his hand around her slender waist tightening, almost wanting to merge her into his body, to be closely connected.

They kissed passionately, neither hearing the sound of the door unlocking.

Reed, returning from a walk, noticed signs that someone had been in the house and suspected a break-in. He called Nathaniel, but no one answered, so he came up to check.

He never expected to see such a passionate scene when he unlocked the door and pushed it open.

He had always known living with young people was inconvenient, but he never thought it would still be inconvenient even with separate floors. Reed now felt at a loss, unable to think of a way to avoid awkwardness for all three.

He regretted not realizing that Nathaniel would bring Aurelia home.

He silently vowed never to step into this door again.

But what to do now?

Pretending not to see was impossible; he was old but not blind.

After a moment, Nathaniel finally noticed Reed standing at the door, looking like a child waiting to be scolded for doing something wrong.

Can't win me back
