Chapter 428 Buy a Durian, And I'll Kneel
As they were talking, the security guard arrived. "Excuse me, is there a problem here?"
The Karma Jewelry employees exchanged glances, but no one dared to speak. They all returned to their workstations, pretending to be busy. They had heard enough rumors about the president of the Heilbronn Group to know that the more they knew, the more dangerous it was.
Nathaniel was known for suing people into bankruptcy, and no one dared to speak recklessly about today's incident.
Beatrice glanced into the room again. Aurelia was still leaning against the desk, leisurely sipping a cup of coffee. She realized that this woman had no intention of dealing with her and just wanted the security guard to handle it.
Beatrice snorted. Who did this vixen think she was to drive her away?
"No need for you to do anything, I'll leave on my own!"
Before leaving, Beatrice gave Nathaniel a look full of a mother's disappointment in her child. She had lived a smooth life, marrying into the Heilbronn family despite her own family's lack of prestige.
Over the years, the Heilbronn family elders had never looked down on her for her background. Instead, they let her manage the household and turned a blind eye to her support for her own family.
The only regret in her life was having such a disobedient son. At her age, being bullied by her son's ex-wife was humiliating.
Beatrice left Karma Jewelry and called her brother from downstairs. "I'm at Coral Bay. Can you come pick me up?"
"Beatrice, it's work hours. I can't leave right now. Why don't you take a cab?"
"Isn't your wife at home with nothing to do? The kids are at school, so she should come pick me up. It's hot outside, hurry up!"
Once Beatrice left, the office returned to its previous calm.
Everyone seemed to be working, but they were actually chatting fervently in a group chat.
[Old flames reignited! Did you hear what Mr. Heilbronn said? 'It's always been me who is unworthy of her.' Anna is so cool!]
[Classic rich family mother-in-law drama. Mr. Heilbronn is so protective of his ex-wife, it's touching.]
[Mr. Heilbronn's mom is really something. She's the biggest obstacle in his pursuit of his ex-wife, isn't she?]
[Alright, it's time to clock out.]
In the office, Nathaniel felt guilty.
Aurelia was calmly handling her work, while Nathaniel sat nearby, watching her. He was wondering whether he should buy a durian and kneel first, or apologize before kneeling.
No matter how he thought about it, he couldn't find a fundamental solution.
After sitting on the sofa in silence for a while, Nathaniel stood by the window and called Zack.
"Find a long-term travel group, a world tour, and sign Beatrice up for it."
Zack was confused on the other end of the line. "Mrs. Heilbronn wants to go on a world tour? I hadn't heard about that."
"Stop talking and put your current tasks aside. Find a travel group that leaves in the next few days."
Zack quickly responded, "Got it, Mr. Heilbronn."
After hanging up, Nathaniel also opened a travel app on his phone, looking at various travel groups, but they all seemed too short. When he came to his senses, he saw Aurelia tidying up her desk.
They had planned to have dinner together that evening.
"Aurelia, what do you want to eat later?"
Aurelia looked at him in surprise. "Do we still need to eat?"
Nathaniel started sweating and repeatedly apologized for Beatrice.
"Aurelia, I'm sorry. Don't mind what my mom said. I'll send her abroad right away, I promise!"
Aurelia didn't respond, giving him the cold shoulder.
Nathaniel was most afraid of her ignoring him. If she said something, he could find a way to appease her, but her silence was really difficult to handle.
"Aurelia, how about we go to The Velvet Palate tonight? They just got some fresh seafood this afternoon. What flavor do you want? I'll tell the chef."
Aurelia locked the documents in her drawer and picked up her phone charger from the desk. Nathaniel had already brought her bag over, and his eager demeanor made Aurelia's anger subside a bit.
But she couldn't let it go just like that. Being blocked and scolded at the company was ultimately caused by his mom. She needed compensation.
She had to maintain her stance, at least to make him coax her.
"Mr. Heilbronn, shouldn't you go downstairs to check on your mom? She's unfamiliar with the area. If she gets lost, I'll be blamed."
Nathaniel knew she was speaking out of anger. He knew how to handle this.
"Aurelia, I'm the one to blame. If I hadn't been clinging to you, my mom wouldn't have misunderstood. I've told her countless times, but she still refuses to see the truth. This is all my fault. You can punish me however you want, just don't ignore me."
Aurelia rolled her eyes at him. "Don't even think about getting back together!"
Nathaniel's heart sank. This was exactly what he feared. It wasn't easy for him to pursue her. His mom kept causing trouble, so when would he ever win her back?
"Aurelia, don't be like that. Is there any other way to compensate you? Just say it, as long as I can do it!"
Aurelia put the charger back in her bag and was about to leave.
"Mr. Heilbronn, go back. I can't afford to be associated with a prestigious family like the Heilbronn family."
Nathaniel shamelessly followed her. If he listened to her and left now, it would be trouble. Women often said the opposite of what they meant; when she told him to leave, she actually wanted him to follow.
"Aurelia, how about we go for some seafood?"
"My stomach doesn't feel well, I can't eat that."
The employees in the work area had mostly left, with only a few stragglers remaining. Nathaniel, disregarding his CEO image, followed her and asked, "Then how about something warm? How about some noodles?"
"There aren't any good noodles around here, I don't have an appetite."
"How about some dessert?"
Aurelia's high heels clicked on the floor as she walked to the elevator and pressed the down button. "Mr. Heilbronn, are you very free?"
Nathaniel thought, in this situation, even if he had something to do, he would have to push it aside!
They waited for a few seconds, and the elevator doors opened. Fortunately, it was empty.
Aurelia stood in the corner, her expression cold and distant, clearly trying to keep her distance from him.
Nathaniel looked at her through the mirror, scratching his brow after a while. "How about I buy a durian, and I kneel while you eat it?"
Aurelia was moved. "If you buy it, I'll eat it."
Nathaniel breathed a sigh of relief. As long as there was a way to resolve this, it was fine. "I'll buy it right away!"
Nathaniel walked ahead, carrying her bag. His car was parked downstairs.
After getting in the car, he navigated to a large mall and headed straight for the fruit section.
Aurelia indeed didn't have much of an appetite for a meal today. Her period hadn't ended, and her stomach was a bit uncomfortable. She was craving something sweet.
If Nathaniel hadn't mentioned it, she wouldn't have thought of buying a durian.
