Chapter 309 In Love with My Nephew's Wife

Aurelia rubbed her ankle, thinking that high heels were practically a form of torture designed specifically for women. Even though she wore them often, her feet still developed blisters. If she kept dancing, her skin would break.

Nathaniel noticed the red, irritated area on the back of her foot on the back of her foot. He frowned and immediately took out his phone to call Zack.

"Bring a pair of flat shoes that Aurelia can wear, and also go to the pharmacy to get some iodine, topical medicine, and band-aids. Come over right way."

Aurelia looked up at him and said,

"That's not necessary. I'm not that delicate. I'll just sit here for a while and not move. We'll go home in a bit."

Aurelia thought that Zack had a family too. He got engaged four years ago but still hadn't married his fiancée, probably because of Nathaniel. Whose assistant was available around the clock, all year long? Asking him to bring shoes late at night might make Zack resent her in the future.

Nathaniel didn't get Aurelia's point. When he heard her mention going home, his eyes lit up.

"Aurelia, why don't we go now? I've kept your bags at the Bloom Villa in good condition. Betty has been living there alone, and everything is just as you left it. We've been waiting for you to come back. Do you want to take some of the bags, or should I have them sent to you?"

Nathaniel reached out to massage her foot, but Aurelia quickly pulled her leg back.

"Mr. Heilbronn, Please conduct yourself with dignity! Give those bags to another woman, I don't need them now."

Nathaniel scratched his head, thinking she was just being stubborn.

"Why should I give them? They're your things, and they'll always be yours. I don't have the right to dispose of them. I spent a lot of money on those bags, many of which are limited editions. I went through a lot to get them. Isn't it a waste to just leave them in the closet?"

"Just Keep them. You might need them someday. If you ever go bankrupt, you can sell those bags to get back on your feet."

Nathaniel gritted his teeth. Couldn't Aurelia wish him well? Wouldn't it be better if he made more money for her to spend?

Aurelia felt a gaze from not far away. She looked up to confirm her suspicion and saw Marcus leaning against the bar, idly swirling a half-glass of red wine, his eyes seemingly glued to her.

Ever since she learned Marcus's true nature, she felt creeped out every time she saw him. The words of that foreigner had shocked her even more. It seemed Marcus wasn't a hallucination, she probably resembled someone Marcus couldn't forget.

Nathaniel noticed Aurelia's dazed expression and followed her gaze. There was no one else in that direction but Marcus.

He reminded her again,

"Aurelia, stay away from him."

Nathaniel and Marcus had completely fallen out at the company. When Marcus first returned to the country, he seemed very laid-back. He refused any position Reed offered him at the company, preferring to travel and enjoy life as a rich kid.

After that incident, something seemed to awaken in Marcus. He started opposing Nathaniel at every turn, making things difficult for him, even if it meant the company would lose money.

Marcus was a very deep and calculating person and also skilled at handling relationships. In just a few years, he had won over many of the company's managers. But Nathaniel wasn't one to sit idly by. His abilities were well-known, and the employees trusted him and were willing to work with him.

After all, working under Nathaniel was tough, but the money was real. For ordinary employees, the place that paid the most was the place to be.

But now, seeing Marcus staring at Aurelia with that predatory look, Nathaniel was very anxious.

Aurelia just wanted to avoid Marcus and didn't need anyone to remind her.

She quickly turned her face away and asked,

"Do you think there could be two identical people in the world?"

Nathaniel placed a piece of dessert in front of her and thoughtfully provided a disposable fork.

"How could there be two people exactly the same? The world would be in chaos in that way. What are you thinking about?"

Aurelia couldn't help but share her thoughts.

"Marcus seems to have mistaken me for his girlfriend."

Nathaniel suddenly became agitated and asked,

"Did he do something to you?"

Aurelia shook her head.

"Not really. Actually, when I was with the Heilbronn family, Marcus was quite considerate of me. If it weren't for Marcus's people protecting me, I might have been harmed by Chelsea's schemes several times."

Nathaniel felt both heartache and urgency.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Aurelia gave a bitter smile and said,

"Would it have helped?"

Not only would it not have helped, but it would have also made her a laughingstock for Chelsea.

Nathaniel asked again,

"How did Marcus know you were being followed?"

"I always ran into Marcus whenever I was in trouble."

Nathaniel shook his head in frustration. This was no coincidence. Marcus had been deliberately following Aurelia.

It was well-known that Marcus had a girlfriend abroad. Reed had urged him several times to come home and help with the family business, but he showed no interest.

Four years ago, after Reed sent him a family photo, Marcus suddenly returned, saying that home was his foundation and that he could only feel secure with his family. When he came back, he never mentioned his girlfriend, and his asthma had worsened, causing him to cough so badly that he couldn't sleep at night.

Now, hearing Aurelia's words, alarm bells went off in Nathaniel's head. He suspected that Marcus's return wasn't so simple and that it might have something to do with his wife.

At first, he naively treated Marcus as family, personally picking him up at the airport and seeking out top doctors to treat his illness.

Nathaniel now felt like the biggest fool in the world. Marcus had his eyes on his wife, and he still treated him like family.

"The people following you weren't just Chelsea's; Marcus was involved too."

He stated this plainly, an unpleasant truth.

Aurelia didn't argue this time, acknowledging his judgment. She also felt that such coincidences were unlikely. She had been too helpless at the time, and Marcus's status as an elder had given her a familial filter, preventing her from thinking the worst.

She silently forked a small piece of dessert into her mouth and didn't respond.

Nathaniel was afraid that Marcus would continue to entangle her now. Before, Aurelia was his wife, and Marcus, wary of Reed, wouldn't dare to do anything too outrageous. Even if he had thoughts, he suppressed them, acting covertly.

Moreover, liking his nephew's wife wasn't something that would be well-received if it got out.

Now, Aurelia was no longer his wife. Marcus could do anything, and Nathaniel couldn't even imagine what he might do.

Can't win me back
