Chapter 48 Mrs. Heilbronn's Wedding Ring

Aurelia smiled calmly, her gaze shifting to Chelsea with a hint of mockery.
That night, Aurelia had intended to expose Chelsea's true colors in front of Nathaniel, revealing the character of the woman he had fallen for and how Chelsea had schemed against her sister.
She wondered if Chelsea's facade of purity and kindness would still hold up.
Just as she was pondering how to seize the opportunity, Chelsea unwittingly walked right into her trap.
Chelsea felt a chill down her spine from Aurelia's piercing gaze, unable to meet her eyes.
"Officer, I took the item. It was with Ms. Thompson's permission, though she may not admit it now,"
Aurelia's words reignited the commotion in the office.
"How is that possible? Are you suggesting that Ms. Thompson deliberately framed you? Who would make a fuss using a deceased mother's belongings?"
"We believe in Ms. Thompson's integrity. Why would she do such a thing to you when she has no grudge against you? What would she gain from it?"
"You're just trying to shift the blame, you dirty thief!"
Aurelia ignored the accusations for the time being.
"Officer, that necklace is not Ms. Chelsea's. It belonged to my mother, and as far as I know, Ms. Thompson's mother is still alive, so it can't be an heirloom."
Chelsea became uneasy, glancing at the people in the room who were eagerly waiting for the truth to come out. She wanted to take the police and Aurelia to the conference room to talk.
The police investigation relied on evidence, not just who had the most convincing story.
"Ms. Semona, you claim this item is an heirloom from your mother. Can you prove it?"
Aurelia took out the necklace from her bag and opened her phone's photo album, showing many pictures of her mother.
"Officer, look, this is my mother. She always wore this necklace, and I discovered it was missing when I was sorting through her belongings. I have no idea how it ended up in Ms. Thompson's hands."
Her words raised another question about the necklace being Helen's heirloom.
The police enlarged the photos and compared them to the necklace, confirming they were identical. "Ms. Semona, this necklace indeed matches the one your mother wore. However, such jewelry is usually mass-produced, so it doesn't prove that this specific one belonged to your mother."
Chelsea straightened her back, feeling a bit more confident.
The room fell silent once again.
Aurelia licked her lips, her eyes lowered in silence.
"Officer, I have also lost a valuable item, which I happened to find in Ms. Chelsea's drawer two days ago. Can you investigate that as well?"
Chelsea gasped, silently acknowledging her lack of traction in this situation. She had reported the incident, yet the accused appeared more vehemently justified than her.
Two police officers, with an air of authority, made everyone feel awe.
"You can speak up. What is the item?"
Aurelia pressed her lips together. "My wedding ring is in her drawer."
Chelsea's heart skipped a beat, feeling a mix of anger and embarrassment. Her voice was a few decibels higher than usual as she spoke. "Officer, she's talking nonsense."
Chelsea opened the drawer and saw the ring box, which she clearly remembered leaving on the bedside table at home. She had no idea how it ended up in the company.
"Officer, this ring was given to me by my boyfriend when he proposed."
At this moment, Aurelia remained calm.
"You say the ring is yours. Can you wear it? If it's an engagement ring, it must have been bought with the right size. Why don't you try it on in front of everyone?"
Chelsea was taken aback. The ring was several sizes too small for her, so she could only put it on her pinky finger.
Panic ran across her face.
The onlookers started to discuss among themselves.
"I believe Ms. Thompson. How could the future, Mrs. Heilbronn, steal a ring from you? It's laughable."
"She must be mistaken. Why would someone of Ms. Thompson's status steal her ring? Nonsense."
At that moment, the ring fell into the hands of the police.
"Here's the thing: both of you claim that this ring is yours. Why don't you tell us how we can prove it belongs to each of you?"
Aurelia appeared generous at this moment. "Why don't we let Ms. Thompson speak first?"
Chelsea cleared her throat, trying to appear calm on the surface, but she was panicking inside.
"This ring was designed by Lolly three years ago, and there are only three pairs in the world. My boyfriend bought it at a high price, and only a few people can afford it. You should have a judgment in your heart."
Aurelia smiled. "Is that supposed to be evidence?"
Chelsea was used to being powerful in the company, perhaps because of Nathaniel's support. Those people were willing to flatter her.
"Of course, we believe in Ms. Thompson. Ms. Thompson's boyfriend is our president. Besides him, who else can buy a limited-edition ring?"
"No one can match our Mr. Heilbronn in terms of wealth."
"Aurelia, just admit it. It's just a stolen necklace. Return it, and we can all move on. Once you leave this building today, we won't have to see each other for months. Accusing Ms. Thompson like this won't do you any good."
"If you continue to bully the kind Ms. Thompson, Mr. Heilbronn won't let you off. Why don't we go and tell Mr. Heilbronn? His girlfriend has been treated unfairly, and even I, a bystander, can't stand it."
The police needed clarification. The seemingly innocent woman in front of them was the wife of the Heilbronn Group's owner, who seemed to have made a mistake. On the other hand, the defendant, Aurelia, was calm and composed, speaking with reason and having the demeanor of a wealthy family.
Aurelia sneered, "Officer, it's my turn to speak. My initials are on this ring. You can find a magnifying glass to see them."
Everyone was stunned.
This was a major plot twist. They had all prepared their arguments to crush this audacious thief.
Everyone was curious if what she said was true, that the ring had her initials on it.
The police asked, "Can someone bring a magnifying glass?"
The commotion quickly spread to the president's office.
Zack rushed in, panting. "Mr. Heilbronn, there's a commotion in the design department."
Nathaniel was not interested in office gossip, but when he heard it was about the design department, he had a bad feeling. "Explain clearly."
Zack took a look at his boss's face and quickly finished his sentence.
"Mr. Heilbronn, Ms. Thompson accused Mrs. Heilbronn of stealing her things and called the police. During the police interrogation, they found Mrs. Heilbronn's wedding ring in Ms. Thompson's drawer."
Nathaniel's face changed drastically when he heard about the ring. A few days ago, she had said she lost it, and he didn't believe her.
The two women had caused a scene in the office, even calling the police. Nathaniel put down the documents in his hand and instructed Zack to contain the situation and silence the employees.
Nathaniel arrived at the design department, where a group of people were busy looking for a magnifying glass.
His presence was so overpowering that the chaotic atmosphere in the office immediately became calm as if someone had pressed the pause button. No one dared to speak or even to move around.
"Officer, can we talk in my office?"
The room fell silent.
"Let's talk here. Today's incident has caused such a big fuss, and I need to seek justice in front of my colleagues. Everyone should help determine who the thief is. We have to find out who it is, or else who will dare to leave their belongings at their desk in the future?"
After Aurelia finished speaking, everyone broke into a cold sweat for her.
‘How dare she speak so boldly in front of Mr. Heilbronn? She must have a lot of courage,’ someone thought.
Nathaniel looked around with a cold voice. "You all can leave."
The crowd immediately held their breath and walked out, afraid of making a wrong move and getting reprimanded by the boss.
The spacious office was left with only two police officers and three people with unclear relationships.
Nathaniel took the ring from the police and put it on Aurelia's ring finger.
The cold touch slid from her fingertips to the base of her finger, and Aurelia felt a moment of dizziness. This was the first time he had helped her put on a ring.
"Officer, there's no need to investigate. This ring belongs to my wife."
Can't win me back
