Chapter 58 Use Me
She looked him up and down, her gaze settling on his cufflinks.
The man seemed to have been eyeing her as well.
"Sir, your cufflink is about to fall off," Aurelia said, feeling embarrassed about her clumsy attempt to accost a strange man.
The man was called Caleb. He was dressed in a refined silver-gray suit and exuded an air of sophistication. He raised his hand to check his cufflinks.
"Thank you. I must have missed it," Caleb replied.
"My friend here is a fashion designer. If you need any help, he can help you," Aurelia offered.
Caleb raised an eyebrow. "Thank you," he said, taking off his suit jacket and handing it to Ulysses.
Aurelia felt a sense of triumph, wondering how she could get him to invite them to the charity auction.
Ulysses always carried a sewing kit with him. He found a light gray thread and meticulously sewed the button.
"It’s my luck to have met you and your friend today. The words are not enough to express my appreciation. What can I do for you?" Caleb asked, sensing Aurelia's intention.
Aurelia replied, "Don’t mention it. But it would be great if you could take us to the charity auction."
Caleb nodded, and they followed him inside.
The charity auction was adorned with luxury, champagne, wine, and exquisite hors d'oeuvres.
Aurelia and Ulysses sat at a table in the corner.
The auction was about to begin, and everyone took their seats.
The host presented the first item, a ruby.
Aurelia's nerves instantly heightened. She cursed Nathaniel in her mind.
He had obtained the ruby at an auction and given it to her. It was a rare gem, with a color so vibrant that Aurelia had never seen anything like it.
She felt a pang of nervousness, fearing that someone else might win the bid.
Someone offered to buy it at $160,000.
People from all directions began to bid. Aurelia felt as though these strangers were her enemies.
The price soared to $600,000.
In the end, with only one contender remaining, Aurelia unflinchingly bid $800,000 for the ruby.
The crowd turned to look at her, whispering, "Who is she?"
"I don't know. Probably a wealthy person who prefers to keep a low profile."
The person competing with her glanced in Aurelia's direction and immediately bid $1 million for the ruby.
Aurelia's palms were sweaty. She had never spent so much money before. She guessed she would have her name on the list of those who contributed most to the charity after this charity auction ended.
She took a deep breath and bid $1.2 million for the ruby.
Zack rushed into the backstage, panting.
"Mr. Heilbronn, Mrs. Heilbronn is here to bid for the ruby. She has outbid the one we arranged, and the price has reached $1.2 million."
Nathaniel rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
He had only spent $120,000 on that stone, but within minutes, Aurelia had driven the price up to $1.2 million.
"Let her have it." Zack immediately relayed the message to their contact at the event, and the ruby was got by Aurelia in the end.
The host announced the second item, which was a necklace called the Tears of an Angel.
Aurelia felt a twinge of pain in her heart.
She had bought that necklace at a jewelry exhibition, using up all her savings. She had never been willing to wear it, but Nathaniel had decided to auction it off.
Aurelia's bidding went smoothly, and the person who had competed with her in the previous round lost to her again.
The necklace ended up back in her hands.
The auction continued with the third, fourth, and eighth items. Aurelia loved each piece of jewelry, and she won them all.
After it ended, she felt her hand getting numb from swiping Nathaniel's card so many times.
Zack couldn't help but report, "Mr. Heilbronn, Mrs. Heilbronn has spent $600,000." " Mr. Heilbronn, Mrs. Heilbronn has spent $2 million."
"Mr. Heilbronn, Mrs. Heilbronn has spent $1.6 million."
Nathaniel's phone kept vibrating in his pocket.
"Stop, I have notifications," he said.
Zack looked at Nathaniel and couldn't help but smile. He thought, ‘No wonder Mrs. Heilbronn dared to bid for everything. It turns out that she has your card with her.’
Nathaniel had used Aurelia's jewelry as bait, but in the end, Aurelia bought it away with his money.
After the jewelry auction, it was time for the guests to mingle.
Many celebrities and socialites attended the event.
Wine glasses clinked, and a variety of elegant dresses filled the room. The auction had turned into a social gathering for the upper class.
Some people hoped to find their other half on such an occasion. Everyone had already started to socialize skillfully.
Aurelia felt a bit hungry and went to get some snacks.
"Would you like something to drink?"
Aurelia turned around at the sound of the voice. It was Caleb who had escorted her into the event. He walked over with two glasses of wine.
She smiled awkwardly. "I'm sorry. I can't drink."
Caleb shrugged. "That's okay."
"I didn't expect you to be so generous. I've attended many auctions, but it's the first time I've seen someone buy everything," Caleb remarked.
Aurelia felt a bit embarrassed. "It's not my money, so I don't care."
Caleb smiled and said, "Not your money?"
Aurelia lied. "I used my brother's credit card."
Caleb smiled and handed her a business card. "You're an interesting person. Let's be friends. I'm also very interested in jewelry. We can exchange ideas when we have time."
As Aurelia took the business card, her phone rang. She apologized and walked to a quiet place to answer the call.
Caleb, behind her, watched as she walked away.
He had clearly seen the name Nathaniel Heilbronn on her incoming call.
Caleb’s father had arranged a business alliance with the Heilbronn family for him, and he had initially hesitated to accept it. Now, it seemed unnecessary.
Aurelia was summoned upstairs by Nathaniel to the VIP room.
"You're quite generous."
Nathaniel's words were laced with sarcasm, but Aurelia didn't think she had done anything wrong.
"You auction off your wife's jewelry. I wonder if you would auction me off one day."
Nathaniel pressed her against the door, smiling as he looked at her. "How much do you think you're worth?"
"In your eyes, I may be worthless, but in someone else's eyes, I could be priceless."
"You're quite confident."
Nathaniel was in a good mood as Aurelia recklessly spent his money. In the dim light, he looked her up and down as if admiring a beautiful painting that captivated his gaze.
"Are you happy spending your man's money?"
Aurelia answered truthfully, "I am."
Just like that, the money was gone. Today, Aurelia truly showcased the demeanor of a wealthy woman.
"Your man is not bad, too. Do you want to spend the night in the main bedroom?"
