Chapter 66 I Don't Want Anyone Born
Nathaniel frowned, unable to understand what was wrong with Aurelia. She suddenly began to shed tears while speaking calmly, and he couldn't figure out what he had done wrong.
"I indeed don't want children."
Aurelia couldn't hold back her tears.
"Do you not want children, or do you not want children born by me?"
Nathaniel rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"There's no difference."
"There is a difference."
At this moment, Aurelia stubbornly wanted an answer. Even if it was the most hurtful one, she wanted to hear it from his mouth, to let her almost rekindled heart sink into complete despair.
Nathaniel took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, took a deep drag, and exhaled the cold words along with the smoke,
"I don't want any child, no matter who the mother of the child is," he said.
Aurelia looked at Nathaniel smoking in front of her and sneered. He didn't even want Chelsea's child; he was truly heartless.
The atmosphere was thick with tension for a moment.
His phone rang.
Aurelia saw Chelsea's name flashing on his screen, like a sharp blade repeatedly stabbing her heart.
He never avoided her calls, even if it was Chelsea's calling, and this fact upset Aurelia greatly.
Ordinary men with mistresses would hide it, fearing their wives' discovery. His affair was known to everyone. He even allowed Chelsea to show off in front of her.
He had never taken her seriously, and that was what hurt her the most.
"Nathaniel, Chelsea's having a heart attack, come quickly."
Nathaniel stared at Aurelia and replied to the caller, "Okay."
"Are you coming with me, or are you going back on your own?"
Aurelia weakly replied, "I'll go back on my own."
Nathaniel said nothing more and left directly. In the morning, he insisted on bringing her out, but now he left her alone in this rundown place.
Aurelia stood by the window and watched the Bentley below, which attracted the attention of passersby, drive away before heading downstairs.
When she left the house in the morning, the sky was sunny, but now it was overcast. The strong wind carried dust from the ground, and Aurelia could almost hear the approaching rain.
In the morning, she was hastily whisked out by him, leaving no chance for her to check the weather forecast. She even forgot to pack an umbrella in her bag.
The neighboring streets offered no refuge from the rain, with a bar at the street corner seeming out of place amidst the surroundings.
After much deliberation, Aurelia decided to shelter herself from the rain there, which was preferable to catching a cold from the downpour.
Few patrons lingered inside the bar, which was as desolate as the streets outside. Perhaps most of the people were all nocturnal souls, embracing this time and weather for a leisurely slumber.
"Aurelia settled at a secluded corner table, her emotions a tangled mess. She longed for the numbing relief of alcohol, yet the life growing inside her held her back; pregnancy forbade any indulgence in drink."
Resigned to her seat, wary of being asked to leave by the owner, she ordered a glass of lemon water.
She had left in the morning without eating, and now the pangs of hunger gnawed at her empty stomach.
After a few minutes, the rain started to pour, with raindrops tapping against the window. Soon, the rainwater formed a straight line as it flowed down the eaves, creating a curtain of rain in front of her.
Aurelia sighed in relief, finding solace in the heavy rain. If only she could vent her frustrations as easily as the weather.
She stared at the rain scene absentmindedly, unaware that a delicate piece of cake had appeared on the table.
Aurelia looked up and was momentarily stunned when she saw the man in front of her. Her thoughts drifted back to yesterday, and the person’s face slowly became clear.
"Miss Heilbronn, are you not in a good mood?"
Aurelia heard him call her Miss Heilbronn and quickly realized that the man mistook her for Ashley, whom she had falsely claimed to be spending Nathaniel's money on jewelry.
"Miss Heilbronn, what a coincidence to meet you again."
Caleb smiled somewhat mischievously. "By the way, did you happen to throw away the business card I gave you yesterday?"
Aurelia responded with a hint of doubt in her voice.
Caleb sighed. "I knew you must have lost it. I'm Caleb Sinclair, Nathaniel's childhood friend. I'll visit your uncle another day, but can I add you on Facebook first?"
Aurelia's mind was still on the business card he mentioned, and she completely forgot about Caleb handing it to her yesterday.
Caleb was an outgoing person and had already opened Facebook without waiting for Aurelia's response, ready to add her.
Aurelia's phone was right in front of her, and she couldn't think of a good reason to refuse for a moment. She thought, ‘Why not add him and block him later if needed?’
Caleb seemed to sense Aurelia's hesitation and casually joked while changing his contact details.
"Will you block me as soon as you leave?"
Aurelia paused, impressed by his insight.
"Miss Heilbronn, you must have noticed someone following you since you arrived."
Aurelia hesitated for a moment, Chelsea's annoying face flashing in her mind. What should she do next?
"Following me?" Aurelia inquired.
Caleb leaned in closer, speaking in a low voice,
"A man at nine o'clock has been following you since you came in, watching your every move."
Aurelia couldn't help but want to turn her head to look, but Caleb pushed the cake in front of her and whispered, "Don't look. Pretend you don't know."
Aurelia awkwardly picked up a spoon, took a bite of the cake, and hesitated. She wondered how to get rid of these two people.
Taking a sip of his drink, Caleb reassured her, "Don't worry. I'll escort you out later. Easy; just treat me to a meal later."
Aurelia took another bite of the cake and glanced sneakily at the spot Caleb had mentioned. Two men with cameras were sitting there, their faces familiar.
She recalled that these were the two who had been snapping photos of Nathaniel at the auction center.
They weren't sent by Chelsea, so Aurelia relaxed, mainly because she knew these journalists wouldn't stay hidden in the industry for more than three days. Today's events wouldn't be easily overlooked by Nathaniel. After all, he was ruthless.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel arrived at the hospital, where Chelsea was undergoing examinations in the examination room. Ashley was sitting on a bench in the corridor, playing on her phone, completely unaware of the danger looming.
Nathaniel thought of the malicious words Ashley had used against Aurelia on the phone in the morning and felt angry.
"Come with me."
Ashley was suddenly lifted by him, screaming in fear. When she saw it was Nathaniel, her fear didn't subside but intensified.
"Nathaniel, Mom called me. Can I answer it first?"
Nathaniel took her phone and found that she was playing a mobile game. Her mouth was full of lies.
"Why are you so angry with Aurelia? Why use such vicious methods against her? Can't you stand to see me happy?"
'Sending her sister-in-law to someone else's house, only she could come up with such an idea.' Nathaniel thought.
Ashley was too scared to admit. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Where did you get the drug from?" Nathaniel inquired.
Ashley continued to play dumb. "What drug? I don't know."
The siblings argued outside the examination room, and Chelsea came out, looking somewhat weak.
"Nathaniel, you're here. I felt so anxious just now. Luckily, Ashley brought me to the hospital in time."
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes.
Nathaniel glanced at her. "You're not in a condition to live alone."
Chelsea felt elated, thinking Nathaniel was going to move to the Jade Community and live with her. But the next moment, she heard him say, "Move back to your own home and live with your parents."
Chelsea felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her, extinguishing all her enthusiasm.
Nathaniel didn't pay her much attention and simply pulled Ashley away.
