Chapter 188 Fatherly Love

Nathaniel's words were sincere, almost pleading.

Aurelia turned her head to avoid his breath, but he followed her movement.

"Aurelia..."

He pleaded softly, looking pitiful, a stark contrast to his usual cold demeanor.

Aurelia felt a stir in her heart. She turned away and pushed him back.

"Your beard's prickly."

Nathaniel touched his chin. "Really? I just shaved this morning."

As his grip loosened, Aurelia tried to escape, but he pulled her close and spun her around to face him.

The position was undeniably intimate.

Aurelia couldn't resist his charm, especially when he was gentler after drinking.

"Aurelia, you haven't agreed yet. You can't see other men!"

His intense gaze locked onto her, and he lifted her chin, pressing his lips to hers.Aurelia gave him a few gentle shoves, but the hand he had wrapped around her waist only tightened its grip.

He lost himself in the kiss, his expression filled with an overwhelming depth of emotion.

As the kiss ended, Aurelia's cheeks flushed a rosy hue, and she looked utterly aggrieved.

"Nathaniel, what do you feel about me? Have you ever loved me?"

Nathaniel furrowed his brows. "You still don't get it?"

Aurelia shook her head.

Nathaniel felt helpless. It was the first time he cared so much about someone, yet she seemed unappreciative.

The word "love" was too cheesy for him, but his actions spoke volumes.

While he pondered, Aurelia escaped to the bedroom.

Nathaniel sat there, grinning foolishly.

Aurelia slipped back under the covers, her heart racing uncontrollably. The sound of water trickling in the bathroom echoed around her, amplifying the chaos swirling in her mind. She felt lost, unsure of how to navigate the complex dynamics of their relationship; ever since he learned about the baby, her plans seemed to have spiraled out of control.

Moments later, Nathaniel emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a soft, pink towel, steam rising off his skin. Without hesitation, he slid into bed beside her, pulling her close into his warm embrace.

For the first time in three years, Aurelia found this position strangely unfamiliar. Perhaps it was because everything had shifted in the past couple of months; so much had happened that it felt like a lifetime had passed.

His hand rested gently on her slightly rounded belly.

"Aurelia, let's not get divorced."

He was the one who wanted the divorce, and now he was saying no.

Aurelia's eyes moistened. She wondered if she should try to give the two children a complete family. She couldn't deprive the baby of a father's love.

"Will you love these two babies?"

She choked up, wanting reassurance.

Nathaniel was stunned. "Two babies?"

He only knew she was pregnant, not that it was twins. Hearing "two babies" raised a big question in his mind.

Aurelia nodded. "It's twins."

When Nathaniel heard her mention twins, it was like fireworks exploding in his chest. Two babies—what incredible news! He couldn't believe she'd kept such a big surprise under wraps.

His large hand roamed over her belly, and he couldn't help but laugh at himself. He used to dislike children and even thought about not having any. But hearing she was pregnant with two made him very excited.

He felt he was really hopeless.

The next morning, Aurelia woke up to find Nathaniel already gone. He was always busy, so it was rare for him to spend even half a day with her.

She got dressed and was washing up when there was a knock on the door. Zack stood there with a bag of food.

"Ma'am, this is the breakfast Mr. Heilbronn ordered for you. Eat it while it's hot."

Aurelia took the food. "Thanks, Zack. Mr. Heilbronn, he..."

Zack smiled. "He has an important contract to sign this morning. He asked me to tell you to pack up a bit. I'll bring people to help you move at noon."

Aurelia looked confused. "Move?"

"Yes, ma'am. The villa Mr. Reed Heilbronn bought for you is ready. The house is yours alone. Whether Mr. Heilbronn can enter or not is up to you. If you're happy, let him in. If not, kick him out. Those are Mr. Reed Heilbronn's exact words."

Aurelia awkwardly nodded, thinking, 'That does sound like something Grandpa would say.'

At the hospital, Reed had received a call from Nathaniel early in the morning, hearing that his granddaughter-in-law was pregnant with twins. He was clamoring to be discharged, saying he was fine.It seemed that a good mood could work wonders for one's health. Within just two days, Reed had gone from being weak and bedridden to moving around freely.

At this rate, he'd be back to his old self before long, and he even started planning to help raise his great-grandchildren.

Having devoured a sandwich and finished a bowl of oatmeal, Reed, who had been relying on nutritional injections just days earlier, now had a hearty appetite.

"Ted, is everything I instructed done?"

Ted replied, "Everything is prepared as you instructed. Two baby rooms are set up, one for a boy and one for a girl. The playroom is also ready. The crib you liked is bought, made from the most eco-friendly materials. Voice-activated lights are installed in every corner of the villa for Mrs. Heilbronn's convenience."

Reed's smile deepened the wrinkles on his face over the past two days.

"Have you found the nanny and nutritionist?"

"Yes, all top-rated in Imperick. Rest assured, just wait to hold your great-grandchildren."

Reed nodded. "Get everything ready and bring Aurelia over. Otherwise, I won't be at ease. That child is very reserved and won't tell me if she's been wronged. I have to stand up for her!"

Ted chuckled. "You don't need to worry. I see Mr. Heilbronn is very anxious. It's his first time being a father, and he wants to treat the Mrs. Heilbronn like a queen."

Reed sneered. "I hope so!"

Nathaniel kept sneezing while signing the contract. After a busy morning, he checked his watch. It was almost noon.

Zack had arranged for the movers, and they were ready to go.

At Nathaniel's command, Zack drove to Aurelia's place.

Aurelia had packed some small items. She hadn't lived there long and didn't have much stuff, mainly her manuscripts and some valuables.

She sat in the living room, staring at the packed items in a daze. She knew that going back with him this time meant giving their marriage another chance.

It was all for the sake of the babies. She longed for a father's love and hoped her children could have it too.

She decided to take a gamble. In the past two days, she had seen Nathaniel's attitude towards the children. He didn't show any reluctance; instead, he seemed quite happy, which was different from what she had expected.

Can't win me back
