Chapter 223 Scumbag Dad!
Jacoba pouted, then complained, "Thompson sounds awful. I don't want that last name!"
Nathaniel asked eagerly, "Don't you know Chelsea?"
Jacoba was quite confused at hearing Nathaniel's question.
"Is she a nanny? I've never heard of that name," he replied.
The tension in Nathaniel's eyes gradually eased, and his heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled. He recalled the time Chelsea had escaped, fearing that the drug he gave her didn't work and that she might have given birth to the child.
Looking at this little one now, who didn't seem to be lying, he relaxed completely.
As long as this child wasn't born to Chelsea, it didn't matter who the mother was.
"You said I'm your dad?" Nathaniel asked.
Jacoba nodded in agreement, he revealed, "I'm not sure, just suspicious."
After all, he had searched online for a long time and only found this one man, Nathaniel, who had any connection to his mommy, making him the prime suspect.
Nathaniel sat down next to Jacob. The word "dad" stirred some strange emotions in him, reminding him of his two unborn babies.
Jacob spoke like an adult, surprising him, but he didn't find it annoying. He usually found kids noisy, but Jacob was quite interesting. Nathaniel had a pile of work to do but ended up chatting with Jacob even though he was such a young child.
"Did you get separated from your family? Why are you alone?" Nathaniel asked.
Jacoba rolled his eyes, clearly displeased with being treated like a child. "Only kids get lost. I'm already over four years old!" he remarked.
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow curiously and chuckled, then asked, "Alright, four-year-old Jacob, let's talk about something between men. Do you have someone you like?"
Jacoba was about to say that his favorite person was, of course, his mommy, but he caught himself. He couldn't allow' Nathaniel to manipulate him. He was there to assess Nathaniel for his mommy, and if he failed, he didn't want an unqualified dad.
His big eyes rolled around and said, "You first!"
Nathaniel leaned back on the sofa, his face turning somber. He had lived a repressed life for years, never confiding in anyone, but now he opened up to a four-year-old boy.
Nathaniel confided, "I had someone I liked very much, but I was stupid and heartless back then. I didn't realize how much I liked her and did many things that hurt her. It wasn't until she completely left me, left this world, that I realized I couldn't live without her and couldn't get used to a world without her."
The more Jacoba listened, the angrier he got. So, his heart was occupied by a woman who was no longer living in this world.
'No wonder mommy didn't want him. Scumbag!' he cursed inwardly.
Nathaniel's performance led Jacoba to give him a failing score in his private evaluation.
Many of the questions he had planned to ask were swallowed back. If his dad's favorite person wasn't his mommy, that would cross a line for him.
Jacob angrily threw the photo onto the sofa and jumped to the floor to leave.
Nathaniel quickly stopped him and said, "Where are you going? Give me your dad's phone number, and I'll help you contact him."
Jacoba fumed, "My dad is a big scumbag. I don't want him. My mommy doesn't want him. Let him be lonely for life!"
Nathaniel had no idea why this little rascal was so angry. Just a minute ago, they were chatting happily, like old friends despite the age gap.
"Jacoba, are you mad at me?" Nathaniel asked.
Jacoba pouted, the said disappointedly, "I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at that big scumbag."
With that, he pushed the door open and left. Nathaniel signaled at Zack to follow Jacob. Such a young child running to his office alone, they had to report it to the police.
Zack quickly followed, and Jacob had already rushed to the executive elevator, standing on tiptoe to press the button.
Zack reached over and pressed it for him, asking, "Little one, are you not looking for your dad anymore?"
Confirming that this boy wasn't Nathaniel's child, Zack felt the kid had come with a purpose.
Jacob denied ever saying Nathaniel was his dad.
He answered coldly, "No, I'm not looking for my dad."
At that moment, his smartwatch rang. Jacob answered, "Dahlia, I got lost just now. Wait for me at the dessert shop. I'll be right there."
Hearing this, Zack became more alert. This sounded too much like those organized scams circulating online, especially the way he mentioned the name "Dahlia."
He now believed that "Dahlia" was definitely the leader of this group, using a four-year-old to scam people.
Jacob left the Heilbronn Group building and went straight into the dessert shop next door.
Dahlia had been waiting for a long time without seeing him. She checked the restroom but didn't find him, and even reviewed the surveillance footage, which showed he had never entered the restroom. She was thoroughly panicked. If Jacob was lost, her life would never be enough to make up for it.
When Dahlia saw Jacob calmly walking back into the dessert shop, she rushed forward and hugged him tightly, tears streaming down her face.
"Jacob, did you get distracted by something fun again?" Dahlia asked him, concerned.
Jacoba went along with Dahlia's words and replied, "Dahlia, I saw a boy with a Transformer. It was so cool."
Dahlia let go of Jacob and checked him for injuries. Seeing he was unharmed, she finally relaxed.
"Jacob, please don't run off like that next time. Anyway, are you hungry?" she asked.
His little cake on the table was still untouched.
Dorothy's cake was already half-eaten. She looked at her brother with wide, hopeful eyes, wanting to eager to learn about their dad, but with Dahlia around, she couldn't ask. It was their little secret.
Outside, Zack followed Jacob to the door. Through the glass, he saw a middle-aged woman hugging the boy, crying with a very anxious expression resembling that of someone who had lost and found a child.
He looked at the table and recognized the brand of the water bottle. Aurelia used to love that brand of thermos, which wasn't cheap. It was not something an average family could afford for their child.
Zack realized he was overthinking. This kid's clothes and manner of speaking were far from ordinary. He couldn't possibly be a scammer.
Zack turned back to the office, laughing at himself for being silly.
Meanwhile, Jacob felt very disappointed with the outing, so much so that he lost his appetite for his favorite blueberry cake, barely managing a few bites before wanting to go home.
He decided that he would punish Nathaniel for mommy!
Dahlia took the two kids back to the hotel, still nerve-wracked from Jacob's recent disappearance.
Jacob, on the other hand, comforted her, "Dahlia, can you not tell uncle and mommy about today? If they find out, they'll never let me out again."
Jacob put on a pitiful expression, and Dahlia nodded in understanding.
Dahlia replied sternly, "Jacob, if you need to go to the bathroom next time, I'll go with you and wait by the door."
