Chapter 340 We Don't Need to Stay in Touch

Nathaniel felt that getting Aurelia to forgive him was becoming increasingly difficult. No one was helping him; instead, everyone was causing trouble.

When Nathaniel arrived, the police that Betty had called were also there.

Beatrice, who considered herself a person who cared about her reputation, was uncooperative when questioned by the police.

Betty had reported that someone was trying to snatch a child on the street, so naturally, the police treated Beatrice as a kidnapper.

Beatrice looked disdainful but had to explain, appearing completely impatient, "Officer, I just wanted to ask who that child's father is so I could inform him to take care of his own woman and child, instead of them clinging to my son for money. Do I look like a kidnapper to you? Do I look like I need money?"

The police scrutinized Beatrice Ashley and concluded, "Indeed, you don't look like you need money. But there are plenty of rich people who do bad things to get back at society. Just because you don't need money doesn't mean you're not a kidnapper. The street cameras caught you acting suspiciously, pulling and tugging at a little girl. Now, come with us to the station."

Beatrice, who prided herself on staying only in five-star hotels, found the idea of going to a police station unbearable. "If you have something to say, say it here. I have a party to attend later."

The police chuckled. "Do you get to choose where we talk?"

With that, the police forcibly put Beatrice into the police car.

Nathaniel arrived in a hurry, opened the car door, and saw this scene.

Beatrice, seeing her son, thought she had found a savior and shouted to speak with him, but the police didn't give her a chance and closed the car door.

Nathaniel looked at the police car with a complicated expression.

As the police car drove away, Dahlia quietly went back inside.

The two of them stood a short distance apart, staring at each other in a long silence.

After a while, Nathaniel said, "Aurelia, I'm sorry."

Since their reunion, he had lost count of how many times he had apologized. Aurelia remembered that this was the phrase he said the most.

Aurelia was indeed a bit angry. "Nathaniel, your mom scared Dorothy. It wouldn't be unreasonable for me to call the police, right?"

Nathaniel felt heartbroken hearing that Dorothy was frightened, but he was more filled with guilt.

The bodyguard had reported every harsh word Beatrice had said to Aurelia. He thought his own mother was unreasonable and that it was justified for her to be scared by the police to prevent it from happening again.

He felt increasingly indebted to Aurelia, feeling like he could never fully make amends.

"Aurelia, my mom..." Nathaniel shook his head, feeling at a loss for words. His own mother always did inappropriate things. After a long pause, he continued, "I'll make sure someone keeps an eye on her for the next few days so she doesn't bother you again."

Aurelia calmed herself, walked to the door, and locked it, leaving Nathaniel outside. "She better not come again. Nathaniel, you shouldn't come either. You're the children's father, and I won't stop you from seeing them. In the future, if you want to see the child, arrange to meet outside. You saw it yourself; your mom is very against us being in contact. Besides, we really don't have any reason to stay in touch."

When she said there was no reason to stay in touch, Nathaniel felt as if his heart was breaking.

He knew Aurelia wasn't someone who acted impulsively or said harsh words lightly. If she said it, she had thought it through.

He had been dreaming of a family reunion, even planning how to decorate the house in Coral Bay. But she only wanted to stay far away from him, not even wanting to stay in touch.

Nathaniel felt a tightness in his chest, his temples throbbing. He unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt. "Aurelia, I've never been someone who lets others control me. You know that. My mom is my mom, and I am me. You can't completely reject me because of someone else's mistakes."

He indeed wasn't controlled by Beatrice, but Beatrice and Ashley were always causing trouble.

"Do you think your mom will let me go? She'll come a second time, a third time, accusing me of seducing you and wanting your family's money! Nathaniel, I'm tired," Aurelia replied.

Nathaniel took a deep breath, trying to expel the frustration building up inside him. "Aurelia, I'll handle this."

As they talked, Jacoba had been standing on the second-floor balcony for a long time. "Mommy!"

Jacoba's call interrupted their conversation. Aurelia paused. "I should go back. You should leave too."

With that, she turned and went inside.

Dorothy was watching TV in the living room, her emotions already calmed by Dahlia, but she still looked very upset when she saw Aurelia come in.

Aurelia quickly hugged her, checking her over again. Fortunately, those two crazy people hadn't hurt her; otherwise, she might have gone mad.

Jacoba ran downstairs. "Mommy, did the police take those bad people away?"

Aurelia nodded. "I will finish things up here as soon as possible and take you back to Coral Bay."

Outside, Nathaniel smoked half a pack of cigarettes before getting in his car. The police called to inform him that it was a misunderstanding and he could come to pick them up.

Nathaniel drove over, and found Beatrice and Ashley waiting inside the station. After all the commotion, they had become much more subdued and spoke more politely to the police.

After signing the paperwork, Nathaniel led the mother and daughter out.

In the car, Nathaniel didn't want to say a word, feeling very down. If Beatrice were a stepmother, he wouldn't have come to pick her up today.

But she was indeed his biological mother.

As the car headed towards the Heilbronn Villa, Ashley couldn't hold back her complaints. "Nathaniel, you saw Mom and me being taken away by the police. Why didn't you stop them? You've really been bewitched by that woman, ignoring your own mother and sister!"

Nathaniel suddenly slammed on the brakes, the car screeching to a halt by the roadside.

Ashley and Beatrice were thrown forward, hitting their heads on the seatbacks. Startled and confused, they heard Nathaniel coldly say, "Mom, we need to have a clear talk today. Aurelia is Joe's sister, the daughter of the Semona Family. Joe searched for her for years and finally found her. Now the whole family cherishes her. What were you thinking, offering a $300 check? Are you embarrassing yourself?"

Beatrice was stunned, incredulous. "Joe?"

Joe's name was not unfamiliar. Her brother's new job was with a company under the Semona Group. She had heard many stories about Joe, and the Semona Family's wealth was no less than the Heilbronn family's.

Aurelia, the woman who had been humble in the Heilbronn family for three years, was actually a rich heiress of the Semona Family?

This revelation shocked both Ashley and Beatrice.
