Chapter 362 Four Years Time Difference
Aurelia retorted indignantly, "Of course, I eat everything. I gained two pounds after having the baby."
Nathaniel chuckled softly, his shoulders shaking, "So, you're proud of gaining two pounds?"
He didn't want to discourage her, but her thin arms and legs made him worry he could break her with a slight force. Over the past four years, she had become noticeably thinner than when she was with him, even her chin was sharper.
At this moment, Dorothy, who had been focused on eating, spoke up, "Mommy doesn't like to eat lettuce, bok choy, spinach, cabbage, sweet potato leaves, romaine, and..."
Aurelia fell silent. Seeing that Dorothy had exposed her picky eating habits, Aurelia looked awkward. She hadn't expected Dorothy to be listening to their conversation while eating.
Nathaniel had a smug expression, as if he had caught her red-handed, raising his eyebrows at her, "Not picky?"
Aurelia cleared her throat and said to Dorothy, "Dorothy, eat your food properly."
Dorothy made a funny face and then buried her head back into her meal.
Aurelia had almost finished eating. She always had a small appetite and couldn't eat much. Looking at the half bowl of greens left in her bowl, she felt troubled. Leaving it would be wasteful, and she always told the kids not to waste food, so she should set an example.
Seeing her struggling, Nathaniel directly took the bowl from in front of her and finished the remaining vegetables.
After eating, he noticed Aurelia staring at him.
She said, "That was my bowl..."
Nathaniel took a sip of red wine, looking calm, "I don't mind."
Nathaniel thought to himself, 'It's not like I hadn't eaten your leftovers before.'
When they first got married, Reed was quite enthusiastic, inviting the couple to the Heilbronn Villa for meals every few days and constantly adding food to Aurelia's plate.
Perhaps due to her family background, Aurelia was emotionally sensitive and good at reading people.
When she first joined the Heilbronn family, she was always on edge, even though Reed treated her like his own granddaughter. She didn't dare to leave food uneaten, and every time Nathaniel saw she couldn't finish, he would help her out.
Aurelia was silent for a long time. His tone always gave the impression of an old married couple, not taking their divorce seriously at all.
The two kids, having finished eating, went off to play, leaving Nathaniel and Aurelia to sit and enjoy their wine.
Reflecting on the past few years, they rarely sat down like this to drink and chat. Nathaniel was a controlling person; he didn't allow Aurelia to drink outside, and at home, she could only drink lightly before heading to bed. They never had the chance to drink and chat like this; their communication was of a different kind.
Aurelia had a low tolerance for alcohol. After one glass, her skin had a faint pink hue, making her even more alluring under the soft lights, her every expression exuding a natural charm.
Nathaniel's throat moved slightly. After finishing the last sip in his glass, he took out a box he had prepared for a long time, opened it, and presented it to her, "Aurelia, this is the Heilbronn Group's new product for this quarter. As usual, the first piece produced is for you."
Aurelia's gaze fell on the diamond pendant in the box. Because of the alcohol, her eyes were slightly red, like a captivating siren.
The diamond in the box sparkled brilliantly. It was exclusive to the mistress of the Heilbronn Group, with each season's new product appearing on her first.
But now they were divorced, and she was no longer Mrs. Heilbronn.
Aurelia was silent for a long time before speaking, "Nathaniel, it doesn't seem appropriate for me to accept such an expensive gift from you."
Nathaniel licked his lips lightly, his brow twitching, "Aurelia, it's just a necklace. There's nothing inappropriate about it. Why can you accept flowers from another man but not a necklace from me?"
He deliberately provoked her.
Aurelia chuckled inwardly. She hadn't realized before that he was a man who held grudges. She picked up her wine glass, but the next second, his bony hand landed on her wrist.
Nathaniel looked at her, his eyes like a vortex, full of endless allure. Aurelia glanced at him and quickly looked away.
Nathaniel took her wine glass and poured the remaining half into his mouth.
"Aurelia, if you drink any more, you won't be able to climb the mountain to see the night view."
He took out the necklace and leaned over to put it on her, adjusting the pendant to sit perfectly on her collarbone. Nathaniel's thumb lingered, unsure if he was touching the pendant or the smooth skin beneath it.
Aurelia, having drunk, reacted slower than usual. By the time she realized something was off, Nathaniel had already kissed her lightly and then pulled away.
He wanted to deepen the kiss, but with the two kids in the room, he had to restrain himself.
Aurelia's skin turned red in an instant, even redder than before. She instinctively moved back a bit, glancing at the kids who were engrossed in their play and hadn't noticed them.
Aurelia turned back and glared at him, speaking sharply, "What are you doing?"
These days, Nathaniel had become increasingly fearless. He had come to understand that if he kept worrying about this and that, he would never win Aurelia back.
Nathaniel's gaze fell on the diamond again, "Aurelia, I originally wanted to make this diamond into a ring."
He thought giving her a ring directly might scare her off, so he decided to take it step by step, starting with a necklace and then moving on to a ring.
Mentioning rings, Aurelia couldn't help but think of their wedding rings. They had bought two pairs, and she had left them all at the Bloom Villa when they divorced.
Later, those rings were buried in a grave, and she had dug them out when she moved Brenda's tomb. "Those two pairs of rings are with me now."
"What?" Nathaniel didn't immediately understand what she was talking about.
Aurelia said softly, "The wedding rings from before, and the torn-up marriage certificate, they're all with me."
Nathaniel chuckled softly, "They ended up with you. That's good; they were always yours."
His gaze fell on Aurelia's fair fingers. She had pale skin, a small frame, and her fingers were more slender than most women's. Her hand was beautiful, but a bit plain.
Her ring finger was missing a ring.
"Aurelia, do you think we are like those stories where love comes after marriage?"
Aurelia recalled the first time she met him, arranged by Reed at a coffee shop. She had fallen for him at first sight.
She had never seen such a handsome man, elegant and noble, with an extraordinary aura. She was indeed attracted to his looks.
If she thought about it carefully, they hadn't been married yet at that time, so it wasn't strictly love after marriage.
Nathaniel poured himself another glass of wine. In this atmosphere, he couldn't help but want to drink more. With the alcohol, he spoke more than usual, saying things he normally wouldn't.
"Aurelia, our love has a four-year time difference. Can you wait for me?"
Nathaniel cleared his throat and added, "I've been trying to make up for those four years. You don't have to do anything, just wait for me."
