Chapter 440 I'll Kneel on It Today
Aurelia opened the lunchbox and took a bite of the food. She was exhausted and starving; it was time to replenish her energy.
Nathaniel, on the other end of the line, guessed what she was eating.
"Aurelia, how about coming over to my place for dinner tonight?"
Aurelia paused with her fork, alarm bells ringing in her head.
"Why do I have to eat at your office?"
The last time was enough; at least for now, she didn't have the courage to step into his office again.
Nathaniel couldn't help but chuckle.
"What are you afraid of? I won't touch you today; just want to talk about work. If you're really scared, we can go to Grandpa's house and steal some food, then cook and chat at home. You still haven't finished the durian in the fridge."
Aurelia was sensitive to every word he said now, afraid of falling into his trap again. She couldn't help but feel nervous.
Aurelia's legs were still sore. "Next time, it can't be like this!"
"Okay, my fault. I'll be more restrained next time."
Aurelia patted her forehead. Next time? There wouldn't be a next time!
"I'm eating now, you get back to work."
She hung up the phone and tossed it onto the coffee table, making a crisp sound.
In the president's office of the Heilbronn Group.
Nathaniel's desk was piled with documents waiting to be signed, but he hadn't looked at a single page all morning. His mind was preoccupied with last night's events.
Zack knocked and entered, carrying Nathaniel's lunch, setting out the boxes on the table.
"Mr. Heilbronn, your lunch is here. I postponed your afternoon meeting by an hour so you can rest a bit after eating."
Nathaniel snapped out of his thoughts, his gaze landing on the lunch boxes filled with ingredients meant to boost male stamina.
He looked up, puzzled. "Why order these?"
Zack scratched his head, trying not to laugh.
"Mr. Heilbronn, eat while it's hot, then you can rest."
He didn't have the nerve to say it outright, but when he came to deliver something in the morning, he saw the trash can filled with used condoms and felt happy for Nathaniel.
After holding back for so many years, Nathaniel finally succeeded.
Zack glanced at the trash can, noting the numerous empty wrappers. While happy for his boss, he also felt a bit self-conscious. Could a man really go that many times in one night?
When ordering lunch, he thoughtfully chose some stamina-boosting foods for his boss. As a fellow man, he understood!
Nathaniel had a feeling his assistant might know something. He glanced at the now-empty trash can.
"You came by this morning?"
Zack nodded. Some things didn't need to be spelled out; they were both adults.
Zack chuckled awkwardly.
"Mr. Heilbronn, I ordered a big bed for your rest room. The store is out of stock, so it will be delivered in two days, just in time for the weekend. You'll be able to rest in your office by Monday."
The rest room in Nathaniel's office was currently empty. When he first moved in, there was a bed, but due to his cleanliness, he had everything removed.
A bed was indeed needed, but Zack bringing it up now seemed like he was teasing his boss.
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow and asked, "When you upset your wife at night, how do you usually make it up to her the next day?"
Zack thought for a moment. Upset his wife? He wouldn't dare. Usually, if his wife seemed unhappy, he would start thinking about how to make amends, not giving her a chance to get angry.
"Mr. Heilbronn, I don't have experience with that. I wouldn't dare upset her."
Nathaniel took a bite of an oyster, finding it quite tasty. He pondered Aurelia's tone on the phone, trying to gauge how angry she was.
He was worried that he might have gone too far last night and that she might not let him touch her again.
But he really couldn't control himself, having held back for nearly five years. Last night, when she tearfully called out "Nathaniel," his self-control crumbled.
Zack didn't dare ask more, but he had a pretty good guess. Whenever he got intimate with his wife, she would start complaining after three times, wanting to kick him out.
With Nathaniel using so many condoms, it was no wonder Aurelia was upset today.
"Mr. Heilbronn, a woman's anger shouldn't be left overnight. The longer it ferments, the worse it gets."
Zack implied that Nathaniel should hurry and make amends, and not upset Aurelia again.
Nathaniel's brow twitched. "Get back to work."
Zack's words did sink in. As soon as Zack left, Nathaniel immediately took out his phone and sent a message to Aurelia: [Aurelia, there's still a durian rind at home. I'll kneel on it today!]
Aurelia finished her meal and curled up in her chair. She still felt a bit dizzy. The dark circles under her eyes were barely covered by several layers of concealer.
If it weren't for the media appointment this afternoon, she wouldn't have come in.
With two hours left before the interview, Aurora, who hadn't rested at noon, was busy with a few HR girls setting up the interview room.
The largest conference room was chosen for the interview. Sofas were arranged, and a few of Aurelia's oil paintings were hung on the walls. The company's new magazine, featuring all the works under the Karma Jewelry brand, was placed on the table, with Aurelia's work on the cover.
The Karma Jewelry endorsement ads were already being filmed and released on various platforms. This interview would be the first big step for the brand in the domestic market.
Seeing the business grow bit by bit, Aurora was happy. This was her first job after graduation, and she was lucky to have a good boss and a job she liked.
She was now completely aligned with Aurelia.
