Chapter 201 Lacks the Will to Live

Chelsea was startled by him, stopping in her tracks, too scared to move.

She could feel that he was genuinely angry now.

Following their awkward separation at the family court, Chelsea's mood had been sour, only to be lifted by the news of a car accident nearby involving Aurelia, the woman she despised the most.

Karma had finally dealt with her nemesis.

With Aurelia out of the way, Chelsea rejoiced at the thought of no more competition for Nathaniel's affection or his attention towards his children.

The one in her belly was the only heir to the Heilbronn family.

Chelsea was so happy that she lost her composure for a moment. She even went to the scene of the accident and was even more excited when she saw the pool of blood on the ground.

She forgot the doctor's orders to stay in bed to protect her pregnancy and immediately called to book a restaurant.

On the first day of becoming Mrs. Heilbronn, of course, she had to celebrate as such good days didn't come often, after all.

However, Nathaniel's harsh shout broke her reverie, leaving her frozen to the spot, feeling deeply wronged.

No bride should be yelled at by her husband on their wedding day, so how could she expect their future to be any less tumultuous?

"Nathaniel, you're scaring me!" Chelsea said.

Zack, supporting Nathaniel, was also very angry when he heard her coquettish complaint. In Zack's eyes, if it weren't for Chelsea constantly causing trouble, Nathaniel and Aurelia wouldn't have come to this point.

Zack thought Chelsea was an indirect murderer!

As he was muttering to himself, he heard Nathaniel almost using all his strength to shout at Chelsea, "Don't you understand? I told you to fuck off!"

This time, Chelsea was completely stunned. In all the years she had known Nathaniel, she had never seen him so lost to his emotions. His usually stoic temperament made it rare for him to release his anger so loudly.

She knew he was really hurt this time.

Thinking of this, she cursed Aurelia hundreds of times in her heart.

Given the current atmosphere, Chelsea didn't dare to stay and be an eyesore, so she left, but her heart was filled with joy.

Zack glanced at the burly men blocking their path, their unwavering gazes a stark reminder of the standoff they faced.

They wouldn't gain anything from continuing the confrontation, especially with so many opponents. Force was out of the question; they had to be clever.

He helped Nathaniel back to the car. Nathaniel was anxious and had lost his mind, but as his assistant, Zack was alert.

The black-clad men were so cautious in preventing them from approaching the hospital that, although Zack couldn't guess who had ordered them, he surmised that Aurelia was still undergoing emergency treatment and hadn't passed away.

If Aurelia were really gone, they wouldn't be so afraid of Nathaniel getting close.

Zack settled Nathaniel in the back seat and picked up his phone to dial a number.

He said, "Hello, Mr. Hayes, This is Zack. Did your emergency room admit a patient named Aurelia today?"

The person on the other end coughed and stammered, "How did you know? This is top secret in our hospital right now. We just had a meeting to prohibit anyone from leaking her condition."

Zack's heart sank, and he asked, "Is she okay? Is her baby okay?"

A string of curses came from the phone.

"Why are you asking about this? Let me tell you, that lady has a complicated background. All the top experts in Imperick are here for her consultation. Be careful, or you might get silenced."

Zack thought, 'She's my boss' wife, of course, her background is complicated.'

But he didn't get any key information, so he asked again,  "Just tell me, how is she? Come on, you're the only person I know in this hospital."

The phone was silent for a few seconds, and then came the response.

"I can only tell you that she's still alive, but her condition is quite unoptimistic. Until she wakes up, the experts who were brought in today will be here around the clock. The people behind her have given orders that anyone who doesn't do their best will have their hands chopped off. That's all I can say. Don't spread it."

With that, the call ended with a click.

Hearing that Aurelia was still alive, Zack couldn't wait to tell his boss the good news. But when he saw Nathaniel's lost and dejected state, Zack felt that telling him now would make him rush inside like a madman, and those black-clad men wouldn't let them in.

Since Aurelia was still being rescued, going in would be useless. Instead of doing something pointless, it was better to take Nathaniel to a quiet place and plan carefully.

Zack drove Nathaniel back to the office, settled him in the office's lounge, and then told him the news.

"Mr. Heilbronn, I asked an insider. Mrs. Heilbronn is still being rescued and hasn't passed away. You need to pull yourself together. When she needs you, you have to be the first to stand up. Her subsequent treatment and recovery will need the encouragement and companionship of family. You can't fall apart like this. Let's calmly think about who has protected her?"

Hearing Zack say that Aurelia wasn't dead, Nathaniel seemed to come back to life. With bloodshot eyes, he asked, "Is she really still alive?"

Zack replied, "Yes. Mrs. Heilbronn wouldn't want to leave you and the baby. They will be fine."

Nathaniel's pale face regained some color, and he finally calmed down to review the whole incident. Aurelia's social circle was simple; she wouldn't have offended such a big shot.

The only person who could mobilize the top medical resources in Imperick was him.

'Who protected her and was so hostile to me, not even allowing a visit?' Nathaniel thought, rubbing his temples, unable to think of anyone suspicious.

He opened Aurelia's phone and checked her contacts. The people she contacted were just her usual friends. He switched between her Facebook accounts, but it was still the same few people, with no clues.

Nathaniel said, "Check which doctors were assigned to treat Aurelia and give me the list."

Zack quickly took out a printed A4 paper from his briefcase, saying, "Mr. Heilbronn, I've already checked. They are the top experts from various departments in Imperick."

Nathaniel glanced at it and focused on a particular name. He took out his phone and dialed a number. When the call connected, he got straight to the point, asking, "Mr. Elliott, how is Aurelia now?"

The person on the other end hesitated for a moment, then seemed to find am appropriate place to talk. Then he asked, "So you know that unfortunate girl?"

Nathaniel felt a pang of sorrow and said in a helpless tone, "Mr. Elliott, she's my wife. Please tell me how she is now. I'm very worried."

The person on the other end was momentarily surprised, then said, "Is this your way of trapping us old-timers here? Her condition is very serious. She's teetering on the edge of life and death. Tonight is critical. If she can't pull through, you'd better brace yourself for the worst."

He then added, "She seems to have encountered some setbacks and lacks the will to live. She's even giving up on herself. To be blunt, don't get your hopes up too high. The doctors have already issued a critical condition notice."
