Chapter 384 Playing the Victim
Nathaniel's kiss landed, and Aurelia was still in a daze.
Nathaniel's large hand slid under her clothes, seeking that soft breast, but stopped at her lower abdomen.
He propped himself up to lift her nightgown and saw a hideous scar on that smooth skin.
The scar was clearly from childbirth. Joe had mentioned the pain Aurelia endured during the birth of their two children while they were in the car last time.
Seeing the scar with his own eyes, he couldn't help but feel a pang in his heart.
He had missed so many important moments, not being by her side. "Aurelia, did it hurt a lot?"
Aurelia stared at the ceiling, recalling events from four years ago, and said in a flat tone, "It didn't feel painful at the time. The doctor said my baby's position was bad, and I lost a lot of amniotic fluid. All I wanted was to give birth to the two babies quickly, worried they might suffocate inside."
It was indeed very painful when she gave birth. She only realized the hellish level of pain when the doctor asked her to get up and move around.
Hearing her recount the experience, Nathaniel felt even worse. She cherished her skin the most and had a tendency to scar. Not to mention the pain at the time, having that scar on her body must have been unbearable for her.
He bent down to kiss the scar, as if to soothe and comfort her.
Aurelia was lost in her memories until his lips moved up, enveloping her sensitive spot. Aurelia's mind cleared a bit, and she kicked him away.
Both of them sat on the bed, panting heavily.
Aurelia adjusted her nightgown, realizing she had been too careless to let him climb into bed.
She didn't want to have another child. She was in the prime of her career, with many things to do, and she was too busy. She needed to make money!
Besides, she was just trying to accept him again.
Trying to regain the old feelings, she wasn't confident she could love someone wholeheartedly like before.
"Nathaniel, not until this is official!"
Nathaniel's throat tightened, his mind calmed down, but the heat in his body hadn't dissipated. "Aurelia..."
The way he called her name sounded pitiful. If Aurelia weren't involved, she would have thought he had suffered a great grievance.
"Go back to your own room."
Nathaniel looked reluctant. If he had known this would be the result, he would have controlled himself.
"Aurelia, I won't touch you. Can I at least have a corner of the bed?" This time, he was extremely serious in his expression and tone, applying for a corner of the bed. Even if he couldn't touch her, just lying beside her, he would be willing.
Aurelia scooted over a bit, raising an eyebrow in question, "Do you believe what you're saying?"
Nathaniel was at a loss for words. He indeed had no confidence in himself. When facing her, there was always an emotion that defeated his usually proud self-control.
Nathaniel, feeling wronged, went to the bathroom to take a shower, changed into new pajamas, and came back to Aurelia's bedroom, holding his pillow.
Seeing him come in like this, Aurelia sat up abruptly, looking defensive, "Why are you here again?"
"I want to switch pillows with you."
Nathaniel's voice was low, like a pitiful child being rejected. It was hard to associate him with the usually cold and serious CEO.
Aurelia even found him a bit cute.
Aurelia looked at the pillow in his arms and then at her own, "Aren't the pillows the same?"
Nathaniel said pitifully, "Yours smells better."
Aurelia didn't refuse his small request, picked up her pillow, and threw it to him. Nathaniel hugged it, hesitated for a moment, and reluctantly stepped out.
Before closing the door, he asked, "The weather forecast says there will be heavy rain tonight. If you're scared of the thunder, call me. I'll hear you."
Aurelia thought, 'Thunder is less scary than you.'
Nathaniel wasn't lying. That night, it really started to rain heavily. There was no thunder, but the wind was strong, and the rain hit the windows with a loud noise.
Aurelia ran to Dorothy's room in the middle of the night, afraid she might be scared. Dorothy was timid and always needed to snuggle in her mommy's arms to sleep soundly on rainy nights.
The plan to return to Coral Bay was scheduled. Aurelia had already booked the tickets in advance and bought local specialties for her family. Everything was ready.
Time flew by, and it was Friday. For Nathaniel, this day was scarier than the day before school started.
Soon, he would be alone again. The company still needed a few more days to handle things, so he couldn't go with them.
Nathaniel couldn't imagine how he would live after they left.
These past few days, he had gotten used to waking up every day to make breakfast for Aurelia and the kids. Suddenly, they would all be gone, and he wouldn't even need to eat.
Just thinking about it made him feel suffocated.
After dinner, Nathaniel sat on the couch, silently watching Aurelia walk around the house, packing things.
Two suitcases were already packed. The rest of the stuff in her mom's villa would be sorted by Dahlia. They were just waiting to leave for Coral Bay early the next morning.
Nathaniel's mind was a bit chaotic. Watching her busy figure made it even harder to think straight.
Back at the Bloom Villa, whenever he had to go on a business trip, she would be busy packing his suitcase just like now. Aurelia was meticulous, always making a list of things to bring in advance, then packing according to the list to ensure nothing was forgotten.
He never felt anything watching her pack before. Instead, Aurelia would have a stern face because he was leaving.
Now, their roles were reversed. He sat there pitifully. The key was that Aurelia showed no reluctance to leave. Instead, she had a smile on her face, humming a song, in a great mood.
This made Nathaniel feel extremely uncomfortable.
Looking at the two kids, they were as excited as their mom. None of the three noticed he had been sitting on the couch, depressed for a long time.
Aurelia finished packing the kids' clothes and went to find the documents.
Dorothy hugged her mommy's leg and asked, "Mommy, why didn't you pack Daddy's things?"
Aurelia paused and said, "Daddy isn't coming with us. He still has work to finish at the company."
Dorothy responded with an "oh," and finally, a hint of reluctance appeared on her pretty little face.
The little one then noticed Nathaniel sitting on the couch with a gloomy face, not saying a word. Thinking about leaving with Aurelia and Jacob for Coral Bay the next day, leaving Nathaniel alone here, she felt worried.
"Daddy, we're going back to Coral Bay tomorrow. You have to be good, okay?"
Nathaniel put Dorothy on his lap, "Will you miss Daddy after you go back?"
Dorothy's big eyes rolled around, and she grinned, "Of course, I will. But Daddy, you have to miss me and Jacob too. Don't think about other kids or hold other kids, okay? You have your own kids, so be mindful."
Nathaniel was amused by Dorothy's words, and his expression softened a bit, "Of course, I know. How could I hold other kids? Daddy only holds you two little rascals."
Dorothy was satisfied with this answer, but she still reminded him, "And you can't look at other ladies. You can only think about Mommy, got it?"
Nathaniel ruffled Dorothy's hair affectionately, "Daddy promises not to look at other kids or ladies. I'll only think about you two and Mommy. Is that okay now?"
Dorothy nodded, "Then pinky promise."
