Chapter 71 I'm a Married Man
Aurelia was completely dumbfounded, recalling Chelsea's various behaviors—drinking coffee and alcohol and wearing high heels without any restraint.
'So, was the B-mode ultrasonography she sent to me fake? She wasn't pregnant at all! All of this was just Chelsea's scheme to force me to leave Nathaniel,' Aurelia thought.
She didn't know if this could be considered good news, but at this moment, she felt relieved. She absentmindedly placed her hand on her belly.
Since Nathaniel didn't have an illegitimate child, her own baby wouldn't have a childhood as tragic as hers, where she was displaced from her home due to the presence of a half-sister.
"Aurelia, let's not get a divorce. You knew about Chelsea before, and we were doing fine."
Aurelia felt a slight loosening in her heart.
Seeing Aurelia stunned and silent, Nathaniel felt that she was listening to him.
"Aurelia, can we continue like this?"
He gently lifted her chin, licked away the tears on her face, and finally kissed her lips.
Aurelia was now completely defenseless, letting him kiss her recklessly, even responding a little.
Nathaniel was pleased with her response and kissed her more deeply.
Aurelia didn't answer his question about divorce. Her positive response seemed to provide the answer. Her mind was in chaos now, unsure how to tell him about the secret in her belly.
Her intuition told her that now was not the time to speak.
He kissed her earnestly, but Aurelia stopped him in time while she could still control the situation. She held his hand, which was exploring under her skirt, and whispered softly, "Not today."
Nathaniel stopped all his actions and looked at her with restraint.
Rarely did he obey.
"Are you taking a period of absence? Are you feeling unwell?"
He placed his hand on her belly to warm her.
Aurelia was at a loss, wondering if he would notice anything unusual.
Nathaniel bent down, picked her up, laid her back on the bed, tucked her in, and then lay down beside her, pulling her into his arms.
His palm once again rested on her belly.
It had been a long time since they had laid together so harmoniously. Apart from the two times they made love, the rest of the time was spent arguing.
The warmth slowly emanating from her belly made Aurelia's heart almost jump out of her throat.
"Aurelia, have you gained weight recently? Your chest seems bigger, and your belly seems rounder."
Aurelia was stunned for a moment before murmuring in agreement.
"It's fine this way. Eat heartily. We're not short of money, so eat to your heart's content."
His words made Aurelia chuckle as if he thought she had been starving herself before. Even if they didn't have much money, it wasn't to the point of going hungry.
They lay quietly, Aurelia gazing at the bright sunlight outside the window, with a faint tobacco scent emanating from him. She even felt a sense of calm and beauty at that moment.
She repeatedly advised herself not to think about Chelsea, to grasp the happiness in front of her.
She dreamt of being held like this by him, where they could talk about ordinary things or simply stay silent, a happy family of four. The bed was her whole world.
"Nathaniel, can you hold me like this forever?"
After saying this, Aurelia felt she was being too greedy. The warmth he provided once already made her happy, but she still longed for more.
Nathaniel tightened his arm, kissed her ear, and said after a while, "Okay."
Aurelia's cold heart melted. Just a few words from him could soothe her. She knew deep down that it was Chelsea's fake pregnancy that had made her sad.
She wanted to give him another chance for herself and the babies in her belly.
Thinking of this, her mood brightened.
After feeling unwell for these days, the dark clouds in her heart suddenly dispersed, and her whole heart felt happy.
They just lay there in the bed, and it didn't take long for Aurelia to drift off. She hadn't had a good sleep for days, every night filled with relentless nightmares. Dreams of Helen's death and her divorce haunted her.
But this time, she finally managed to catch a solid, undisturbed sleep.
The knock on the door woke Aurelia up.
She turned over, burying her head in his arms. Just waking up, her subconscious still longed for the warmth of his embrace.
"Aurelia, I'll go answer the door."
Nathaniel rubbed her messy hair, gently removing his arm, which had been numb.
When he opened the door, a pleasant surprise awaited him. There, on the floor, was a tray filled with freshly cooked food. A note nestled on the tray carried the message, 'There's no need to come downstairs for food. Take a good rest.'
Nathaniel sighed. This was Reed's handwriting.
What was Reed thinking?
Nathaniel brought the food inside and placed it on the balcony table.
He actually disliked dining outside the dining room; this table was usually used for coffee and reading, but now it had to serve as a dining table.
After setting everything up, he looked at the drowsy woman in bed. Thankfully, Reed had brought the food up, as she probably wouldn't have the face to go downstairs to eat now.
"Come eat."
He called out.
Aurelia sat up, running her fingers through her hair. "Did you play with my hair while I was asleep? It's all tangled."
Nathaniel felt guilty for a moment. "I wouldn't dare mess with your hair. If it falls out, you'll have to fight me."
Aurelia chuckled softly. She cherished her hair, and it wasn't sparse.
"Let's eat!"
After washing her hands, Aurelia returned and sat at the table. Both of them looked at the food on the plates in silence, neither daring to touch their forks.
"Is there anything strange in here?"
After his nosebleed experience last time, Aurelia asked nervously, not wanting him to eat anything too nourishing, especially since they would be in bed again later.
Nathaniel hesitated with the fork in his hand but eventually set it down.
"Maybe we should eat out."
Having experienced the power of those dishes, Nathaniel didn't want another nosebleed.
"Okay."
Aurelia was a bit hungry now. She swallowed and also put down her fork.
They quickly tidied up and held hands as they went downstairs.
Reed was sitting in the living room, drinking coffee and watching the intimate couple descend the stairs, feeling very pleased.
"Reed, she's not feeling well, so I'm taking her out to eat. Have Mary tidy up upstairs."
Reed waved his hand. "Go ahead. You two go out and enjoy a nice meal. No need to stay home with me. Have fun."
Watching the young couple leave, Reed sighed inwardly, pitying the good food left on the table.
Nathaniel drove directly to a high-end restaurant in the city center, a place that looked expensive from the outside. He parked the car and came over to lead her.
Aurelia looked at his outstretched hand in silence for a moment. "Aren't you afraid of being seen and ruining your golden bachelor status?"
Nathaniel took her hand and squeezed it, saying, "I wasn't really a bachelor to begin with. I'm a married man."
The restaurant was a five-star chain owned by the Moore family. Nathaniel was a regular there.
As soon as they entered, a waiter approached, politely observing the woman beside him.
"Mr. Heilbronn, the private room upstairs is reserved for you."
Nathaniel nodded. "Is Mr. Moore here today?"
"Yes. Let me inform Mr. Moore. Please go upstairs first."
"No need. It's not convenient today," he said.
