Chapter 97 You Need to See a Psychiatrist
Aurelia followed Zack to Chelsea's hospital room. She stopped and looked inside quietly.
In the hospital room, Chelsea lay on the hospital bed with a pale face, her feet in a cast, and bandages on her hands.
Nathaniel leaned back in the chair, softly snoring.
Married for three years, it was the first time Aurelia had heard him snore. At that moment, she felt he must be extremely tired, so exhausted that he fell asleep even while sitting in the chair.
"Mrs. Heilbronn, please do not blame Mr. Heilbronn. After he brought Chelsea to the hospital and said he had to leave, she attempted suicide three times last night by cutting her wrists. He was worried about you."
Aurelia felt a pang of anguish, suddenly feeling sorry for Nathaniel. He acquainted himself with the likes of Chelsea, one bearing the mark of madness, only to be trapped by her looming threat of death, a form of moral coercion.
"He must be exhausted, right?" Aurelia inquired.
Zack replied, "Mr. Heilbronn probably didn't sleep all night. He only dared to rest against the chair while Chelsea was asleep. If she woke up, he had to watch her closely to prevent her from harming herself."
Aurelia took the box from Zack's hands. "Zack, give it to me."
She gently carried the box into the room, placing the scattered suit jacket on him. Unexpectedly, her movements woke him up, though she had tried her best to make it as gentle as possible.
Nathaniel suddenly opened his eyes and saw Chelsea still asleep on the bed. Only then did the tension in his body relax.
When he saw Aurelia, his eyes trembled. He held her hand tightly in his palm on the back of the chair. "Aurelia, you're here."
"Tired, aren't you? Take a nap. I'll watch her.
One was standing, and the other was sitting.
Nathaniel rested his head on Aurelia's chest, closing his eyes. She gently rubbed his chin with her hand, surprisingly finding the stubble that had grown hard overnight.
"Aurelia," he suddenly called out, his tone tired with an apologetic undertone, as if afraid of angering her while trying to comfort her.
"I will handle these matters," Nathaniel said.
Aurelia was momentarily stunned. "Nathaniel, do you have to take care of her? She has family and friends."
Chelsea's life shouldn't be his responsibility.
Nathaniel's Adam's apple rolled. He got out of her embrace. "Aurelia, when I was ten, I had a cramp while swimming and almost drowned. When I was struggling helplessly in the water, Chelsea jumped in without hesitation and pulled me up bit by bit. She was shorter than me at the time, and we almost drowned together. She had a heart attack because of that, almost leaving this world. Since then, she has been plagued by illness, suffering from time to time."
Nathaniel spoke calmly, and Aurelia knew that he must feel deeply indebted to Chelsea at this moment. He spared no effort when helping others but also feared owing others, and what he owed Chelsea was something he could never repay.
Based on the debt he felt towards Chelsea, she could hold him hostage for a lifetime.
This was the first time he had confided in her, and Aurelia felt his inner struggle. He couldn't ignore Chelsea, nor could he agree to her unreasonable demands.
"Nathaniel, how long do you plan to repay her for what you owe her?" Aurelia inquired.
Nathaniel looked up at her for a few seconds, hooked her slender waist, and leaned half a step closer to her, once again burying his head in her arms like a helpless child.
Aurelia felt an unprecedented pang of heartache.
They stayed quietly like this for a while, and Nathaniel saw the suitcase standing against the wall and slowly lifted his head. "Aurelia, I'm going to take a shower and change clothes, you..."
"I'll stay here. Don't worry. Everything will be fine."
Nathaniel went to the suitcase to get clothes, and Aurelia saw a moment of relaxation on his face. She knew that at this moment, she was also the person he could rely on with peace of mind.
He went to the bathroom to shower, and Aurelia carefully inspected the hospital room.
Chelsea was staying in a single deluxe ward with a family bed inside. The bed was neatly made and showed no signs of being slept in.
It was evident that Nathaniel was very careful when staying by Chelsea's side, preferring to sit on the chair and not relax his vigilance even to sleep on the bed.
The sound of dripping water came from the bathroom, and Aurelia's gaze fell on Chelsea's face. Chelsea's face bore a striking resemblance to her own. Except for the eyes and expression, the face shape was the same.
Suddenly, Chelsea's hand moved slightly, and her eyes slowly opened.
"Nathaniel, don't leave. If you do, I'll show you what it means to die."
Her first words upon waking up were to threaten him with these venomous words. When she saw Aurelia sitting in the chair, Chelsea suddenly sat up, tearing off the bandage wrapped around her wrist and searching on the bed.
Aurelia looked at her coldly. "What are you looking for, a knife?"
Chelsea's eyes were bloodshot, filled with red veins, her lips trembling.
"Where have you taken him? He promised me yesterday that he would never leave me, not in this lifetime. If he leaves me, I will end my life."
Aurelia glanced coldly at the wound on her wrist and scoffed. "Do you truly wish to perish, or is this a theatrical display for his benefit? Has anyone informed you of the slim chances of death from wrist-cutting? Moreover, this is just a minor scratch. Even if the doctor arrives late, it should heal on its own."
Chelsea clenched her fists tightly. Her knuckles turned white with tension.
"Do you think I won't commit suicide?"
Aurelia replied firmly, "You don't dare to die. Besides, I think you shouldn't be in this hospital room right now. What you really need is to see a psychiatrist."
Chelsea glanced disdainfully at Aurelia sitting in the chair as if she were fully armed to declare war on herself.
"Aurelia, don't get too proud. Do you think a relationship built on using a child to bind a man can last? I love him to the point of madness, and one day he will feel it."
Aurelia replied, "Perhaps he will only feel your madness. When you truly love someone, you only want him to be happy, not use extreme methods like emotional blackmail to force them to agree to your unreasonable demands. Instead of stubbornly sticking to your ideas, why not think carefully? Do you really love him, or is it because his emotional changes towards you are unacceptable to you?"
"You only love yourself. You only want to satisfy your selfish desires. If you truly love him, you wouldn't engage in illicit activities with other men in the house he lent you."
Chelsea suddenly burst into tears. "No, I love him. I've loved him since I was ten,"
As they were talking, Norman and Maria entered from outside carrying a thermos.
Maria saw Chelsea crying, threw the thermos on the table, and stood up like a rooster ready for battle, raising her hand as if to slap Aurelia, shouting, "I'll kill you. You little slut, just like your mother, all you know is how to seduce men!"
Aurelia certainly wouldn't let her slap her. She easily grabbed Maria's wrist. "Maria, you have no shame. This is the first time I've heard a cheater like you call the original wife a slut. Who is the one that seduced Norman, causing him to abandon his wife and daughter, not even caring about his own mother's life or death?"
Aurelia remembered Penelope holding her hand before she passed away, full of guilt. "Aurelia, I couldn't educate my children properly and gave birth to a bad son; I'm sorry to you and your mother."
Aurelia had begged Norman for so long, but he was unwilling to go to the hospital to see his mother for the last time. There was no one more heartless than him in the world.
Norman stood dumbfounded on the side, his face turning gloomy. "Alright, stop it. What are you saying? No one is a slut; they are all my daughters. Don't speak so harshly. It will be laughed at by outsiders."
Norman felt like he had become a joke in the mouths of his wife and daughter, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
At that moment, Nathaniel came out of the bathroom.
Norman suddenly knelt in front of Aurelia, giving her a serious fright.
