Chapter 329 Taken Away by the Police
Aurelia immediately thought of her mother, Brenda.
She had been kind all her life, never having conflicts with anyone and doing charity work every year.
But in the end, her goodness wasn't rewarded.
When she lay on the cold operating table after her death, having her heart removed, her soul must have hurt too, right?
"Chelsea, your mother deserved that ending. It was karma!" Aurelia said.
Chelsea was like a madwoman at this moment, pulling her hair and crying. "My mother did everything for me. She was just an ordinary woman who loved her daughter. What did she do wrong to be framed by you all? You demons!"
Nathaniel felt Aurelia's hand trembling; she was trying hard to control her emotions. He held her hand in his palm.
It was he who sent Maria to prison.
But it was for the greater good, and he did not wrong that crazy woman.
"Chelsea, you need to face reality. Maria killed someone. The law is fair; it won't punish an innocent person or let a guilty one go free.I understand you have feelings for your mother, but other people have loved ones too. Why should they suffer because of your mother?" Nathaniel said.
Chelsea couldn't focus on anything, her mind consumed by thoughts of Maria's tragic death. Heartbroken and on the verge of collapse, she remembered how Maria had died in prison, subjected to inhumane torture, with no one to claim her body in the end. Every time Chelsea thought about it, the pain in her heart was so intense she could barely breathe.
Chelsea directed all her resentment towards Aurelia.
If it weren't for her coming to take Nathaniel away, Maria wouldn't have done those crazy things and been chased by the police.
She looked up again, seeing Nathaniel protectively holding Aurelia, her eyes burning with hatred. "Aurelia, why don't you just disappear?"
As soon as she said this, Nathaniel tensed, gripping Aurelia's hand tighter, fearing Chelsea might do something drastic.
He wouldn't let Chelsea harm Aurelia.
"Chelsea, if you're set on making bad decisions, that's on you. Don't come here to hurt others with your words. You and your mother have done so many evil deeds; don't add more sins to yourselves," Nathaniel snapped.
Chelsea looked at him nervously protecting Aurelia, feeling a pang of bitterness.
Chelsea had been pining for this man for over a decade, but he never acknowledged or reciprocated her feelings. All he felt was gratitude, nothing more. From start to finish, it was just her unrequited love.
Chelsea actually understood in her heart that Nathaniel only had eyes for Aurelia.
Even when she pretended to be sick to trick Nathaniel into coming over, he was always absent-minded. Even if he didn't say it, she knew he was thinking about Aurelia at home.
Chelsea had painstakingly maintained this relationship, losing her career and Maria's life, but still couldn't get a good result.
But why could Aurelia?
Aurelia didn't have to do anything, yet she could make Nathaniel think about her all the time. After that incident, Nathaniel felt even more guilty towards Aurelia, always thinking about getting her back, even risking his life to make it up to her.
And now, even when she was in such a dire situation, he wouldn't even look at her.
Chelsea was unwilling to accept this.
At this moment, the sound of sirens came from outside.
People in white coats and police uniforms rushed in together. Someone had just called 911, and those police officers were probably called by Nathaniel's lawyer.
The medical staff scanned the hall and asked, "Is there anyone in need of emergency assistance?"
The colleague who had just made the call ran over, pointing at Chelsea. "Doctor, this woman just fainted, but she is conscious now."
The medical staff located Chelsea, who was sitting on the ground with disheveled hair, and walked over quickly. "Miss, are you feeling unwell anywhere else?"
Chelsea was just crying, choking and unable to speak.
Nathaniel answered for her, "Doctor, she is a bit emotional right now. Please check her for any other issues."
Whether she was pretending or not, it was up to the doctor to decide.
The leading doctor squatted down and did a basic check on Chelsea. Apart from her emotional state, he didn't find any other issues, and his face turned a bit grim.
"You need to be careful when calling 911. If there's no real emergency, you're wasting valuable medical resources. Right now, there's an ambulance waiting outside, and a whole team of medical professionals rushed through several red lights to save someone, only to find out it was a false alarm!" he said.
The colleague who made the call looked embarrassed, scratching his head and explaining, "I'm sorry. She did faint just now, and I called 911 in a hurry. Sorry for causing trouble for your work."
"After checking, she indeed has no physical issues." The doctor left with the nurses sternly.
After confirming there was no one in need of emergency assistance, the police finally spoke, "Who is Miss Thompson?"
Nathaniel raised his hand. "Officer, over here."
Two police officers walked over and formally notified, "Miss Thompson, you are reported to be involved in a murder case. Please come with us to the station for investigation."
Chelsea was stunned with fear. She didn't expect things to have such serious consequences. She thought Nathaniel was just saying harsh words to cut ties with her, but he had actually collected evidence of her harming Aurelia and handed it to the police.
Why was Nathaniel so heartless?
He didn't care about their past relationship at all and really wanted to send her to prison.
Chelsea looked at Nathaniel again, seeing only indifference in his eyes. She was now overwhelmed by fear. She had done so many things against Aurelia, and if all that evidence was presented to the police, she wouldn't have a good outcome.
Prison was no place for anyone. Chelsea shuddered at the thought of being locked up for her impulsive actions.
Especially knowing her mother died miserably in prison, bullied to the point of being a shadow of her former self, she was terrified of that place.
No one dared to defy the police, but Ashley, who had been with Chelsea, was scared. Despite her arrogance, she didn't dare to mess with the police.
Ashley looked at the police and weakly asked, "Officer, can we talk here? My friend is a bit emotional now, and I'm afraid she'll be scared if she goes to the station."
The police officer laughed sarcastically.
"Is this negotiable? Why didn't she think about the consequences when threatening others' lives?"
Ashley was too scared to say more.
Chelsea's face turned as pale as a sheet. She hesitated for a long time before slowly standing up. Everyone thought she would follow the police the next second.
But suddenly, she rushed to Aurelia, who was standing behind Nathaniel, and hugged her desperately.
