Chapter 466 Calm Down
Nathaniel paused on the staircase, his steps halting as he realized his feelings had been guessed. He didn't want to admit it, but he was incredibly jealous. Anytime another guy showed up around her, he couldn't stand it, even if she had already turned them down.
Feigning a glance at his watch, Nathaniel said, "Aurelia, I gotta run to a meeting. I'll catch up with you tonight." With that, he quickly descended the stairs.
Aurelia muttered to herself at the top of the stairs, "Jealousy isn't something to be ashamed of. Why can't he just admit it?"
Back in her office, Aurelia received a message from Phoenix:
"Hey Aurelia, you gonna be on set for the Karma Jewelry shoot tomorrow?"
Aurelia thought for a moment. It was Karma Jewelry's first commercial, so it was probably best to be there. She replied, "Yeah, I'll be there!"
Meanwhile, Phoenix had just stepped out of the Karma Jewelry building when a few fans recognized him. Luckily, Demetrius arrived with the car just in time. A moment later and they would have been swarmed.
Phoenix grinned at his phone, ignoring Demetrius's nagging beside him.
"What are you doing out so early without an assistant? This place is crawling with reporters. If I hadn't shown up, what would you have done?" Demetrius scolded.
Phoenix continued to smile at his phone, not paying attention.
Demetrius kept on, "Did you even listen to a word I said? You were supposed to be studying your script this morning. Filming starts next week, and here you are, running off to Karma Jewelry. What, did they not invite you to lunch, so you left in a hurry?"
Phoenix couldn't take it anymore. "Demetrius, can you chill for a second? Maintaining a good relationship with our partners is part of my job!"
Demetrius gave him a sidelong glance. Phoenix was clearly using work as an excuse to chase after Aurelia, but he wouldn't admit it. Since when did maintaining partnerships involve him personally?
"Sure, and your way of maintaining relationships is to show up at their workplace and hand out movie tickets to the entire staff? Where did the two best seats go? One for Mr. Semona and the other for you, pretending to bump into her?"
Phoenix frowned. "Demetrius, that's not fair. Can't I have my own social circle?"
Demetrius couldn't help but remind him, "Now isn't the best time for a relationship. Remember the last actor who went public with his relationship and lost three million followers overnight?"
He paused before adding, "Focus on winning some awards first, then think about other things."
Phoenix was annoyed. At home, he was nagged for not having a girlfriend, and at work, he was warned against dating. When had his life ever been his own?
Demetrius talked about fans, but Phoenix didn't care. It wasn't a big deal. He had finally met someone he liked, and if he didn't act now, Nathaniel might swoop in and take her. That would be a lifetime of regret.
Chewing his gum, Phoenix closed his phone, looking completely unconcerned.
Aurelia had a busy day and set an alarm to remind herself of an important task in the evening. Ten minutes before the end of the workday, the alarm went off. No matter what she was doing, she locked her work in the drawer.
She grabbed her bag and was about to call Nathaniel to see if he was downstairs when he walked in.
"Aurelia, ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's head out."
They quickly went downstairs. Nathaniel's car was parked outside. He checked the address Zack had found and followed the GPS.
On the way, during a red light, Nathaniel handed her a bubble tea he had bought earlier. "I forgot to give this to you when we got in. Thought you might be hungry."
Aurelia took the bubble tea and noticed it was the same strawberry flavor as last time, bringing back memories.
Nathaniel noticed her hesitation and teased, "Why are you just staring at it? Is there something wrong with the bubble tea?"
Aurelia didn't bother responding. She knew he was setting a trap, and they were here for serious business.
"Do you know Rosalind's house number?"
"Yeah, Zack found everything."
Zack was always reliable, having gathered all of Rosalind's recent life details, ID numbers, phone numbers, and house numbers. That's why he was paid several times more than other assistants.
Aurelia couldn't help but wish she had such a capable assistant instead of one who was just a fanboy.
They soon arrived at Rosalind's neighborhood. Aurelia had been anxious about this mystery for days, and as they got closer to the truth, her heart pounded.
After getting out of the car, Nathaniel held her hand reassuringly as they walked into the complex.
They found building 12, unit 3, apartment 701. Nathaniel rang the doorbell. After about half a minute, a middle-aged woman opened the door slightly, looking cautious.
"Who are you looking for?" she asked.
Nathaniel smiled politely. "Sorry to bother you. We're the family of Dr. Claire's former patients. We're in Coral Bay and wanted to visit her. Is she home?"
The woman relaxed a bit and opened the door wider. "My mom is out of town for a few days. She won't be back for a while. Maybe you can come back later."
Nathaniel believed her and asked, "When will Dr. Claire be back?"
The woman thought for a moment. "Maybe in a week."
"Alright, we'll come back in a week. Sorry to bother you."
As they walked back downstairs, Aurelia felt disappointed. She had hoped to find Rosalind and uncover the truth, but now they had to wait.
Nathaniel comforted her, "Aurelia, don't worry. We'll come back next week."
"That's all we can do."
They chatted a bit in the car. It was rush hour, but luckily, the Semona Villa wasn't far. Nathaniel dropped Aurelia off before heading home.
He was most concerned about Reed, an elderly man living alone in a new city. Reed had refused Nathaniel's offer to hire a helper, insisting on enjoying his newfound freedom away from the Heilbronn Villa staff.
