Chapter 433 No Way to Refuse
Nathaniel stared at his grandfather, momentarily at a loss for words.
Aurelia sat with her back to the door, unaware that Reed was standing there. She sensed Nathaniel's sudden emotional withdrawal and, dissatisfied, hooked her arms around his neck, tilting her face up to kiss him again.
Nathaniel stiffened, unable to respond to her passion under Reed's gaze, but he couldn't bring himself to push her away either, letting her kiss him.
"What's wrong with you?" Aurelia noticed his distraction. He had just been the one kissing her, and now he was ignoring her. What was he doing?
Nathaniel licked his lips and glanced at the door. "Aurelia, get down for a moment."
Aurelia frowned, clearly displeased with his attitude, "Nathaniel, what do you mean? You were the one who pulled me onto your lap. Is this how you pursue me? Can you be serious?"
Aurelia huffed, and the next second, she heard a cough from the doorway.
She instinctively turned around and saw Reed standing there, as if he had been caught in the act.
Aurelia panicked and quickly jumped off Nathaniel's lap, awkwardly fixing her hair, "Grandpa, when did you get here?"
Aurelia shuffled her feet, wishing she could dig a hole and hide.
Reed, being experienced, quickly smoothed things over, "The lock downstairs seems to be broken. Nathaniel, come help me fix it."
Reed easily changed the subject, and no one mentioned what had just happened.
When Aurelia and Nathaniel had entered the house earlier, they had used their fingerprints to unlock the door, and it had locked just fine when they left.
Everyone knew the lock wasn't really broken.
Nathaniel adjusted his clothes and stood up from the couch. "I'll go check it out."
They left, leaving Aurelia alone in the living room to recover from the awkwardness.
Reed led the way, and as soon as they exited the elevator, he used his fingerprint to unlock the door, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Reed was worried Aurelia would feel embarrassed. He had come up with the excuse about the broken lock to give her some space.
Nathaniel followed him inside, teasing, "So the lock isn't broken?"
Reed gave him a look, "Go back upstairs and change the password, and delete my fingerprint. We don't want any more accidents."
Nathaniel leaned against the shoe cabinet, looking relaxed, "I think you wanted to watch. You didn't move until Aurelia noticed you."
Reed looked around for something to hit him with, then remembered they were at Coral Bay, and the old broom his wife had left was at Imperick.
"Did you hear what I said? Change the password and don't tell anyone except Aurelia. Think about her feelings. It was lucky it was just me who saw..."
Reed trailed off, feeling it was too inappropriate to continue.
He understood young people had their fun, but such private matters shouldn't be seen by others.
"And you two need to be more discreet in front of the kids. I know you love each other, but you need to control yourselves. The kids are not even five yet; they shouldn't be exposed to this."
Nathaniel scratched his brow, remembering how the kids had spilled their little secrets last time. "Grandpa, we weren't in front of the kids."
Reed didn't seem to believe him. If they hadn't been intimate in front of the kids, how would they know to say such things?
"I'm not meddling, but whatever you do, do it behind closed doors," Reed corrected himself, "Lock the doors! The kids mustn't see."
Nathaniel felt bitter. They hadn't gone that far yet; they were just kissing. Though he deeply desired more, Reed seemed to be overthinking it. "I'm going upstairs."
Reed watched Nathaniel's back and couldn't help but give a few more reminders as he was about to leave.
"Aurelia is tired from work and taking care of the kids. If you can't help her, at least don't wear her out. Take care of her; don't just think about your own pleasure."
Nathaniel felt a delayed wave of embarrassment, "Grandpa, we didn't..."
Reed waved him off, "Alright, go on. No need to explain. I was young once too."
Nathaniel quickly stepped out and closed the door, fearing Reed might start giving him a lecture on that subject.
Aurelia was still feeling awkward.
She couldn't imagine how to face Reed next time. She didn't know how long Reed had been there, but she was sure he had seen everything she said and did while sitting on Nathaniel's lap.
Being caught being intimate by an elder was mortifying, especially since she had been so forward.
Hearing the door open, Aurelia's heart skipped a beat. Seeing it was Nathaniel, she looked behind him, relieved not to see Reed.
Nathaniel walked in nonchalantly and asked if she wanted another piece of durian.
Aurelia's cheeks, which had just cooled down, heated up again. She had no appetite for durian; she just wanted to confront him.
"Nathaniel, did you know your grandpa was there the whole time?"
She replayed the scene in her mind. She had her back to the door, but Nathaniel was facing it. He should have seen Reed first, even if he was a bit lost in the moment.
But he hadn't told her right away, which made her feel very embarrassed.
Nathaniel walked over and said slowly, "I saw him just a minute before you did."
Aurelia felt her scalp tingle with embarrassment. This meant Reed might have been watching for a while. She recalled what they had done on the couch.
They had kissed, and her hand had moved from his chest down to his abs. The position they were in could easily be misunderstood; she was straddling his lap.
The more she thought about it, the more flustered she became. "If you saw him, why didn't you say something?"
Nathaniel felt wronged, "I tried to hint at it, but you didn't pick up on it and kept kissing me."
"So it's my fault?"
"No, I'm not blaming you. I was about to tell you Grandpa was there, but you noticed first."
Aurelia wouldn't let it go, "When you saw him, you could have stopped me from kissing you, but you didn't. You didn't respond, but you looked like you were enjoying it."
Nathaniel rubbed his forehead. He hadn't wanted to stop her.
She was rarely so passionate, and he was very happy. If he had stopped her, he would have regretted it all night.
Nathaniel confessed honestly, "You were finally being more enthusiastic, and I couldn't refuse."
