Chapter 417 Could Burry Be My Sister?
"Mr. Heilbronn, I've been following Burry for a few days and noticed she goes to the hospital every two days. I'm not sure what's wrong with her, but she looks unwell. Alex treats her well, always accompanying her to the hospital."
Nathaniel asked, "Can we get her medical records?"
The detective hesitated, "I tried, but they're confidential."
"Send me the name of the hospital."
Less than a minute after hanging up, the detective sent the name of a hospital, which appeared to be a private one.
Nathaniel sent the hospital's name to his college friend Elvenia: [Do you know anyone at this hospital? I need a favor.]
After a long wait, there was no response, possibly because Elvenia was busy. Unlike private detectives, she wasn't available 24/7.
Nathaniel put down his phone and returned to the kitchen to continue baking bread.
Aurelia noticed his troubled expression and asked, "Is something wrong?"
They had agreed to be open with each other to avoid misunderstandings.
Nathaniel admitted, "Aurelia, I've always suspected that Burry might be related to you by blood."
Aurelia and Reed were both taken aback.
Aurelia had her suspicions too. It seemed too coincidental for two unrelated people to look so alike.
Nathaniel continued, "I've recently discovered that Burry didn't die in that avalanche. She's alive and well."
Reed squeezed the dough in his hand too hard, ruining it. "Are you saying your aunt is still alive?"
Reed was excited. If his son's wife was alive, maybe Marcus's condition could improve. He wanted to see his son happy, not living a life of sorrow. "Where is she? We need to bring her back!"
Nathaniel paused, "Grandpa, don't rush. There are still many things I don't understand. Burry is alive, but she's with a drug lord. I'm not sure if she's there willingly or if she's being coerced. Either way, it's not easy for her to leave."
Nathaniel's words were clear. If Burry was with the drug lord willingly, Marcus had no chance. If she was being coerced, rescuing her would be difficult.
Reed's eyes dimmed, "You haven't figured it out yet? Hire more detectives. We have money! Someone will take the risk for the right price."
"Grandpa, I've already tried. I'll let you know as soon as I have new information."
Aurelia's mind was in turmoil. She had her suspicions but didn't know Nathaniel was investigating.
And now, the person who looked exactly like her was living somewhere on this planet.
Could that person be her sister?
"Are you sure it's her?" Aurelia asked.
"I had professionals verify it. It's her." Nathaniel took out his phone and showed her the photos the detective had sent.
Aurelia was shocked. She knew she looked like Burry but didn't realize how much. They were almost identical.
If not for the unfamiliar surroundings, she might have thought the person in the photos was herself.
Aurelia believed it now. Even without professional verification, she believed the woman was Marcus's wife.
Aurelia asked worriedly, "Is she in danger?"
"Not necessarily. But it's hard for us to get close to her. Aurelia..."
Nathaniel called her name meaningfully before continuing, "I suspect that Norman isn't your biological father. I've already sent your hair for testing, and the results should be out soon."
Aurelia was stunned. She had never doubted Norman, even though he had never acted like a father to her.
She had seen her mother Brenda's genuine love for Norman and couldn't believe she would betray him.
Nathaniel's suspicion made Aurelia feel like the world was crazy. It also brought up a terrifying thought.
Norman had never shown her any fatherly love. If she wasn't Norman's biological daughter, what had happened before she was born? And who was her real father?
Aurelia's mind was overwhelmed. She couldn't even knead the dough properly.
Nathaniel had anticipated her reaction. He gently flicked her forehead, "Stop overthinking. I'll tell you as soon as we have the results. You don't want a father like Norman anyway. If he's not your biological father, isn't that better?"
Aurelia smiled bitterly, "Maybe that's the best outcome."
If Norman wasn't her father, maybe her real father was still out there, and she had another family member.
Dorothy giggled, "Daddy, you got flour on Mommy's face. You're so bad."
Nathaniel hadn't noticed. When he looked again, he saw some flour on her forehead, which he had accidentally put there.
Nathaniel smirked, "Looks good."
Aurelia rolled her eyes and, while he wasn't paying attention, smeared flour on his face, leaving handprints.
Dorothy clapped, "Daddy looks like a cat now!"
Nathaniel wasn't angry. He meowed at Dorothy, and the lighthearted atmosphere returned.
After making the bread, Reed took the kids to play on the balcony. Aurelia and Nathaniel cooked a few dishes together. They weren't as fancy as the housekeeper's, but they had a special meaning because they made them themselves.
The meal tasted like home and the holidays.
Reed had grown tired of fancy meals. Seeing his grandson willing to cook for them filled him with joy.
