Chapter 491 Do You Want to Come to My House for a Late-Night Snack?
Aurelia knew Nathaniel couldn't handle spicy food, so she made sure to ask for everything to be mild. She ordered several dishes, and after she was done, Nathaniel added two more of her favorites.
When the food arrived, they both served each other the best bites. Aurelia looked up and saw Nathaniel devouring a piece of meat drenched in red chili oil.
She remembered how he couldn't tolerate any spice at all. In the past, if she added even a tiny bit of chili to a dish, he'd pick it out and eat the meal with a sulky face.
"Can you handle spicy food now?" she asked, curious.
Nathaniel mumbled something, too focused on his meal. During the years she was away, Nathaniel had gone through a rough patch, barely eating anything.
The only things he could manage were the foods she used to love: desserts, pasta, sandwiches, Mexican food...
It was his way of feeling like she was still with him.
He had gotten used to those foods, and a bit of spice was nothing now.
Nathaniel ate heartily, and after finishing, he put down his utensils and watched her eat.
"Hey, wanna visit Grandpa with me later?" he asked.
Aurelia checked the time. "It's kinda late today. How about tomorrow? I have a craft project to finish with Jacob. We lost to our classmates last time, so we need to step up our game."
Nathaniel paused. "If you three moved in with me, it might be easier. At least for the projects, we could each take a part."
Aurelia raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Heilbronn, trying to trick me again? Aren't you afraid Joe will come after you?"
Nathaniel just smiled. He did want to bring them back openly and honestly.
"Aurelia, Grandpa wants to visit your place. Can you ask Grandma when it would be convenient?"
Aurelia's hand paused, holding her utensils. "I'll ask her."
"Good. Talk to her nicely. If she doesn't want to, don't push it. I'll figure something out."
Aurelia took a big bite of meat. "I know."
After dinner, Nathaniel drove Aurelia back to the Semona family villa. He watched her walk inside until she disappeared from view.
Leaning against his car, he lit a cigarette.
Not far away, a car was hidden in the darkness, following them. It was the bodyguard Joe had hired for Aurelia.
His phone rang, the number familiar. Nathaniel took a drag from his cigarette and answered.
"Mr. Semona, she's home."
On the other end, Joe had just finished a busy day and received the routine report from the bodyguard. Nathaniel had been doing well these past few days, not letting him down.
"Mr. Heilbronn, still hanging around? Want to come in for a late-night snack?"
Nathaniel replied calmly, "No rush. The air is nice out here. I'll finish my cigarette first."
Joe narrowed his eyes. Nathaniel wasn't leaving, and he wondered what he was up to.
"You're two hours later than usual today. I hope you'll be on time tomorrow. There are two kids eagerly waiting for Aurelia at home."
Nathaniel smirked and put out his cigarette. He needed to explain today's delay.
"Joe, we did something important today. I don't know if Aurelia told you, but she has a twin sister. We found the obstetrician who delivered her. That doctor tampered with things and sent her sister away."
Joe felt a chill. The bodyguard had reported their visit to a neighborhood and a woman at a cemetery. Now it made sense—they had taken the doctor to apologize at Brenda's grave.
"Where is that person? Don't let her get away!"
"She's kneeling at Mom's grave, under watch. She won't escape."
"Don't lose her. I'll be back in three days."
"Don't worry, she won't get away. There's another matter we need to discuss. Can we have dinner when you get back?"
"Just tell me over the phone. I'm busy."
Nathaniel wasn't discouraged by Joe's coldness.
"It's about Aurelia's sister, Burry. She's being held by a drug lord in Elvenia. She has some health issues that need immediate treatment. We need to rescue her. If you have any connections there, it would help."
Joe, understanding the gravity of the situation, dropped his sarcastic tone.
"We'll figure something out when I get back."
"Contact me as soon as you return. This is urgent, especially with Burry's condition."
"I'll handle things here as quickly as possible and get back soon."
They found common ground, and Nathaniel watched as a small figure approached in the distance.
"Joe, I have to go. Talk later."
He hung up and walked quickly towards Dorothy, who was running to him.
"Daddy!"
Nathaniel ruffled her hair. "Why are you out here?"
Aurelia held a bag. "The kids saw your car and insisted on bringing their stuff out to do crafts with you."
Nathaniel picked up Dorothy. "Alright, let's all do it together. How about that?"
Dorothy beamed. "That sounds perfect."
Jacob added, "Can you help us with all our projects from now on?"
"Of course. My time is for you two and Mommy first."
He opened the car door, and under the streetlights, the family of four started their craft project.
"Daddy, this leaf needs eyes. It doesn't look like a wolf yet. You need to draw a mouth, too," Dorothy instructed.
Jacob handed him double-sided tape. "Use this, Daddy. The glue stick doesn't hold well."
Nathaniel found this more challenging than business deals. Aurelia, on the other hand, was calm and skilled, turning leaves into various shapes and creating a vivid Little Red Riding Hood with an umbrella.
She was a designer and naturally good at this. For Nathaniel, it was his first defeat in front of his kids' homework.
He surrendered. "Kids, I'm not as good as Mommy. How about I cut the leaves, Dorothy prepares the wolf's eyes, and Jacob handles the tape? Mommy can do the rest."
The kids cheered in unison.
Dorothy, "Sounds great!"
Jacob, "Mommy's the best at this."
