Chapter 346 Walking with You

The call connected, and Reed immediately asked, "Nathaniel, have you investigated the women you sent me? Are they reliable?"

Nathaniel smiled and said, "Reliable."

Beatrice had carefully selected these candidates as potential daughters-in-law. She was meticulous about this process, ensuring that each woman's family background, personality, and appearance were thoroughly vetted. If she wasn't satisfied, she wouldn't introduce them to her son.

She wouldn't complicate matters by choosing someone unsuitable.

Now, Beatrice's efforts hadn't gone to waste; they were finally useful.

Reed sighed. "If you're sure they've been checked, I won't waste any more time. Arrange a date for Marcus, and let them meet and talk. Also, keep an eye out for any suitable women for Marcus."

Reed, at his age, had two unresolved concerns.

One was not having a great-grandchild, and the other was his youngest son not settling down. He even suspected his son might be gay since he never saw him with any girls.

Nathaniel's actions made Reed very pleased. He had long wanted to arrange a family for Marcus.

"Got it, Grandpa. The day after tomorrow is the weekend, which is suitable. The sooner Uncle Marcus gets this done, the better."

Reed laughed and said, "Then I'll listen to you. I'll have Ted call the other party and arrange it for the day after tomorrow."

After hanging up, Nathaniel had already driven to Aurelia's villa.

Dahlia and Betty saw the family of three outside through the house's surveillance and hurried out to help with the things. The cats, along with their supplies and toys, filled Nathaniel's trunk.

Dorothy was so focused on her cats that she didn't have time for anyone else.

After everything was moved inside, Nathaniel leaned against the car, not planning to leave. When Aurelia came out for the last trip and found the car empty, he grabbed her wrist and asked, "Aurelia, do you know how to assemble a cat tree?"

He had a serious look on his face, with no hidden agenda, just simply wanting to help her assemble the cat tree.

When they were at the store, Nathaniel had asked for the biggest and most complicated cat tree, and now Aurelia knew why.

"Nathaniel, I'm actually someone who hates trouble."

Especially trouble like Beatrice and her daughter, who would come to argue with her from time to time. Who could stand that? Although Aurelia didn't care about someone as arrogant as Ashley, it still ruined her mood and was annoying.

Nathaniel tightened his grip a bit, pulling her closer.

"Aurelia, I know. My mom won't bother you anymore. You don't need to please or deal with anyone because of me. Just be yourself."

Aurelia paused and pulled her hand back.

"Nathaniel, I'm taking the kids back to Coral Bay in a few days. If you have time, you can spend more time with them. Don't waste your time with me."

Nathaniel felt a sense of loneliness in his eyes, remembering the harsh words she said yesterday. He was frustrated. He wanted to spend time with the kids and wanted her too.

"Aurelia, I'll go with you."

Aurelia was a bit surprised. He managed the Heilbronn Group, a huge enterprise, and was very busy every day. Lately, it seemed like he was only focused on her and the kids.

"Aren't you busy? If there's a parent-teacher meeting at school, I'll let you know."

Aurelia meant that he didn't need to be around all the time, but he misunderstood and thought she was avoiding him.

Nathaniel felt a bit annoyed. If his wife and kids were leaving, what was the point of staying in Imperick? Wherever Aurelia was, that was home.

"Aurelia, I have business in Coral Bay too."

Aurelia knew it was just an excuse. The Heilbronn Group's headquarters were in Imperick, and its core business was there. The business in Coral Bay didn't need him to handle it personally.

"Are we still assembling the cat tree or not?" Aurelia asked.

Nathaniel tried to suppress a smile. In the end, he stepped into the house again.

The two kids were each playing on their own. Jacoba was fiddling with his Transformers toy, which Nathaniel had brought a few days ago. He didn't even look up at his dad, continuing to play.

Nathaniel felt a bit of a headache looking at his son. Dorothy was easy to please, but Jacoba was not so easy to win over.

He moved the box with the cat tree parts over, and Aurelia handed him a pair of scissors.

Nathaniel took the scissors and asked, "Want to help?"

As he took out the parts from the box one by one, Aurelia couldn't help but think of the swing set and slide in the villa her grandpa had given her, which Nathaniel had bought for the kids but never assembled.

She used to hope he could find some time to assemble the toys and fantasized about playing with the kids together.

But it was always just her, facing those scattered parts alone.

Nathaniel took everything out, looked at the assembly instructions, and organized the parts. Aurelia didn't say whether she would help or not, but Jacoba became interested.

Boys like to tinker, and he couldn't resist the temptation, walking over despite his feelings towards his dad.

"Mommy, can you help me?"

Jacoba held up a part that needed to be fixed with screws, but he didn't have a free hand. Aurelia snapped out of her thoughts and held the part for him.

Seeing this, Nathaniel quickly found the corresponding screws and placed them in Jacoba's hand.

Aurelia glanced at him and said, "Nathaniel, actually, in the house Grandpa bought, there are still some unassembled toys. I assembled half of them."

Nathaniel recalled some unpleasant memories and, after a few seconds of silence, said, "Aurelia, I finished assembling those things."

Nathaniel remembered the state of mind he was in when he completed those half-assembled toys. His heart felt broken at the time. If the nanny hadn't told him that Aurelia had assembled half of them the night before she left, he wouldn't have been able to bear looking at them.

Nathaniel paused and asked, "Aurelia, do you want to go back and take a look?"

Aurelia shook her head. The past was the past. Why reopen old wounds and make herself unhappy?

They chatted openly, not avoiding the kids. Jacoba, though busy with his hands, listened intently. He had seen his dad's past scandals online and read about his mom's car accident.

But from their conversation, he sensed his dad's remorse. In his young mind, he created a mental scorecard. He decided to observe Nathaniel's behavior in the coming days and, if the scores were good enough, he would consider accepting him as his dad.

With everyone's efforts, the complicated cat tree was assembled. Dorothy clapped her hands and cheered, "My cats can climb high now!"

Nathaniel looked at Dorothy's smiling face and then at Aurelia.

"Aurelia, I have something important to tell you."

Can't win me back
