Chapter 330 Taxi Driver
"Aurelia, I didn't want to kill you. It was all my mom's doing, it has nothing to do with me! Please believe me, we're sisters. Even if I hated you, I might say some harsh things, but I would never actually do anything to hurt you. I..." Chelsea shouted.
Before she could finish, Nathaniel had already come over and quickly pushed her away.
"Chelsea, the truth will come out, and the police will ensure justice is served. It's not up to anyone to decide. We must accept the law's judgment!" he said.
Two police officers stepped forward, one on each side, to control the agitated Chelsea and were about to take her away.
Aurelia calmed her emotions. "Chelsea, no matter what happens to you inside, please make sure to take good care of my mom's things. You will have to return them to her eventually."
Chelsea's cries abruptly stopped, and Aurelia's words sent a chill down her spine.
Return them eventually, like her mom Maria?
Chelsea was taken away, and the atmosphere in the hall quickly returned to normal. Most people were just there to see what would happen, watching with a sense of detachment.
Aurelia calmed down and realized that Nathaniel was holding her hand tightly.
Seeing Chelsea's usual tactic of collapsing to the ground, she felt an inexplicable panic, subconsciously thinking that Nathaniel would side with Chelsea and oppose her.
But he didn't.
Nathaniel squeezed her palm again. "Aurelia, it's okay now. I'm here."
Aurelia laughed after a while and withdrew her hand from his. She was used to being alone now.
Oscar came over to ease the atmosphere. "Aurelia, there's tea prepared upstairs. Shall we go up and rest for a while?"
Ulysses also came over, asking worriedly, "Aurelia, are you okay?"
Aurelia's mind was a bit chaotic now. The matter between her and Chelsea had finally come to an end, and now it was up to the police to decide.
Surrounded by the three men, Aurelia took the elevator straight to the top floor.
Oscar's men had prepared tea, fruit platters, and even a few types of bubble tea.
Aurelia sat there, somewhat absent-minded.
She thought she would feel relieved after getting this far, but she didn't.
Chelsea's body was keeping her mom's organs functioning, and she needed to monitor Chelsea's condition constantly. She had to reclaim her mom's belongings.
Nathaniel observed Aurelia's emotions, occasionally handing her food and drinks.
Aurelia sat in a daze for a long time before finally speaking, "Nathaniel, do you know anyone inside?"
Nathaniel knew what she was asking and answered directly, "Yes."
If she needed it, he would make it happen. In this city, there was nothing he couldn't do.
Aurelia was silent for a while before asking, "Will she commit suicide inside?"
Nathaniel comforted her, "Aurelia, I'll find someone to keep an eye on her inside. If anything happens, I'll let you know immediately. As for the heart in her chest, it won't be lost."
Aurelia felt a bit more at ease. She wouldn't do anything as crazy as Chelsea and Maria, but she had to protect what her mom left behind.
Oscar and Ulysses, seeing her mood was not good, started telling funny stories and recent amusing incidents.
Aurelia finished a cup of bubble tea in a daze. She really couldn't bring herself to smile. Thinking that Patrick was handling things downstairs, she stood up and said, "You guys go ahead and talk. I need to head back."
Nathaniel stood up and followed her. He was now sticking close to her.
They went downstairs and got into the car.
Nathaniel didn't start the car immediately. They sat in the dark.
"Aurelia, the past is behind us. From now on, no one will come between us. Let's pretend we just met today. Can we start over?" Nathaniel asked.
Aurelia glanced at her phone. It was getting late, and her mind was a whirlwind. She didn't want to discuss this with him now. She was afraid she might fall into his trap in a moment of weakness.
"I want to go home. My son is waiting for me," Aurelia said.
Nathaniel glanced at her profile, his eyes flickering, and started the car, quickly driving to her place.
She was in a bad mood, and Nathaniel was pondering whether to bring up what he wanted to say tonight.
The car stopped, and Aurelia's phone rang.
She thought it was Jacob, impatiently calling her to hurry back, but it was a video call from Dorothy. She held the phone with one hand, swiping to answer, while the other hand reached for the car door.
The next second, the door didn't open, but the video connected.
Nathaniel had parked the car but had no intention of unlocking it. He had already glimpsed the name "Dorothy" on her phone. How could he miss this chance, even if it was just to hear Dorothy's voice?
On the screen, Dorothy was wearing pajamas with a bunny pattern, looking ready for bed.
"Mommy, can you come home tomorrow? I miss you." she asked.
Dorothy's childish voice echoed in the car. Aurelia instinctively glanced at Nathaniel, catching him peeking at her phone.
Aurelia thought, 'Why isn't he unlocking the door?'
Dorothy continued, "Mommy, aren't you home yet? It looks like you're in a car!"
Aurelia paused and replied, "Mommy just finished work and is in a taxi, but I'm already at the door."
Nathaniel's brow twitched involuntarily. A taxi?
Dorothy asked again, "Mommy, can you come home tomorrow?"
Aurelia thought for a moment. Although the company matters were settled, she needed to visit the office in the next few days. As the largest shareholder, she had to familiarize herself with the business and the work environment. Once she left, who knew when she would return?
"Dorothy, Mommy needs to stay a few more days. Can you wait for me for a week? I'll come back in a week," Aurelia said.
As she said this, Aurelia felt uneasy under Nathaniel's intense stare.
Dorothy pouted, dissatisfied with Aurelia's answer. "I want to see you tomorrow. If you and brother don't come back tomorrow, I'll come to find you."
Dorothy was getting upset.
Seeing the little one on the screen about to cry, Aurelia realized she had neglected her kids while busy with work.
"How about I book a flight for you? Dahlia can bring you over tomorrow," Aurelia asked.
Dorothy's face lit up with a smile. "Okay, Mommy. I'm going to sleep now. Book an early flight. I want to see you and brother as soon as possible."
"Okay, I will book it now."
After hanging up, Aurelia immediately opened the booking app to check flights. She didn't notice Nathaniel sitting beside her, grinning from ear to ear, even happier than Dorothy on the screen.
The family of four was finally going to be together.
