Chapter 218 Missed
Caleb put half his weight on Joe.
If Joe weren't afraid of Caleb pestering Aurelia, he would have thrown him in the trash can.
It took them 20 minutes to take Caleb to Platinum Peaks Retreat. Joe had never served anyone before; his patience only lasted until they reached the hotel front desk.
Upon witnessing Joe assisting a visibly intoxicated individual, the staff members appeared concerned and promptly approached to offer assistance.
"Mr. Semona, do you need any help?"
"Please take this gentleman to room 9201, thank you."
Caleb was practically thrown into the staff's arms by Joe. Once out of sight, Caleb immediately sobered up, pushing away the staff's hand, no longer needing support, leaving the staff bewildered.
He muttered to himself, "first there was Nathaniel, now there's Joe. Every time I try to pursue Aurelia, there's always a formidable obstacle."
The elevator doors slid open, revealing someone who left Caleb utterly stunned.
Nathaniel, dressed in a black suit, looked cold. The two exchanged glances, and Nathaniel didn't seem interested in greeting him.
In business, reputation was everything. He would never give a second chance to someone who broke a contract midway, not even an old classmate.
At this moment, Joe's voice could still be heard from the elevator entrance; they hadn't gone far.
Caleb was very anxious. He already considered Joe as a significant obstacle in his pursuit of Aurelia. If Nathaniel were to enter the picture as well, Caleb knew that his chances would be completely dashed.
Moreover, from his interactions with Aurelia, he knew she was very resistant to people from Imperick, especially Nathaniel, that douchebag. Aurelia had been tricked into coming to the hotel. If they met now, she would hate him for sure.
Nathaniel was about to walk past him, but Caleb, ignoring the awkwardness of breaking a contract with an old classmate, stepped forward and hugged Nathaniel.
Startled by the sudden action, Nathaniel frowned at the smell of alcohol on Caleb.
"Let go!" He said coldly.
Nathaniel was naturally aloof and found it hard to get close to people, even resisting his childhood friend Oscar. Being hugged by a man, especially one who had just broken a contract with him, made him feel extremely disgusted.
The elevator entrance was only a few meters from the hotel lobby. If it weren't for a turn that blocked the view, Aurelia and Nathaniel would have met directly.
Caleb kept praying for Joe and Aurelia to leave quickly, but things didn't go as he wished. He could still hear Joe and Aurelia talking after counting silently for a long time.
"Mr. Heilbronn, I have something to discuss with you. Come to my room."
Caleb tried to find a topic to keep him.
Nathaniel seemed to hear something, his eyes kept glancing outside, and he warned again, "Caleb, let go of me!"
Caleb was determined not to let him go. He would be crazy to let him go and ruin Aurelia's life again. He wouldn't give Nathaniel a second chance to hurt her.
Nathaniel got anxious and used all his strength to push Caleb away, his eyes fixed outside as he ran out.
Caleb, not as tall as Nathaniel, was forcefully thrown against the wall, narrowly avoiding a potential concussion. Despite the pain, he couldn't afford to concern himself with it at the moment.
'That bastard ran out. He must have heard something to be in such a hurry. Living together for three years, he should recognize the voice, right?' he thought.
Caleb felt a wave of panic, regretting his prank on Joe that dragged Aurelia into this. He wished he could slap himself.
Nathaniel was burning with anxiety. Hearing that familiar voice made him both surprised and happy. He ran to the lobby but saw no one, his eyes filled with disappointment.
A staff member was mopping the floor in the lobby. He walked over and asked, "Who was talking just now, a clear female voice, who was it?"
The staff quickly thought and replied, "Oh, it was Mr. Semona from the Semona family real estate and his female companion."
He then asked, "Where did they go?"
The staff pointed outside. "They just went out; you should still be able to catch up."
As soon as the staff finished speaking, Nathaniel rushed out.
Night had completely fallen. He ran out but saw no one. A few seconds later, a black Maybach roared past him, spraying exhaust in his face.
Nathaniel stood there, staring at the endless night, feeling a wave of disappointment wash over him.
He smiled bitterly. 'What am I thinking? She hadalready been killed because of me. It was just a voice that sounded similar,' he thought.
He had planned to get something to eat but now decided he wanted a drink instead.
In the Maybach, Aurelia remained silent. She had clearly seen Nathaniel chasing after them. Such a striking figure, even in the dark, she wouldn't mistake him.
He appeared noticeably thinner than before, with his facial features becoming more defined, giving him an air of unapproachability.
Thinking of past heartbreaks, Aurelia felt uneasy.
She knew she hadn't completely moved on from those three years and couldn't face him without any emotional turmoil. At this moment, hatred outweighed affection. She hated his endless indulgence of the other woman and hated herself for giving him so many chances to hurt her.
Joe was sweating nervously, almost running into that bastard. If that bastard found out Aurelia was alive and had given birth to two babies, Nathaniel would definitely try to take the children.
The Heilbronn family's power was not to be underestimated. Joe wasn't afraid of Nathaniel but knew he would be a troublesome opponent, requiring some effort to deal with.
"Aurelia, are you okay?" Joe asked, concerned about Aurelia's emotions.
Aurelia shook her head, too upset to speak. She feared Nathaniel might have discovered her presence. Thinking of those hellish days, her heart tightened.
"Joe, he won't come after us, will he?"
"Don't worry, I'll handle it if anything happens."
Aurelia felt a bit relieved. Joe provided her with a feeling of security, his unconditional support warming her from within.
She now had a strong backing, a family, and shouldn't fear anyone. Aurelia comforted herself with this thought.
Back at the villa, Aurelia went straight to the nursery.
The two babies were already asleep.
As the months passed, the babies' features became more defined.
Aurelia looked at them closely; Jacob's eyebrows and eyes were just like Nathaniel's. Dorothy's lips also resembled her Nathaniel's.
She stayed with the children, kissing their little feet, reluctant to leave until she finally went back to her room to wash up.
Her only hope now was for the babies to grow up healthy. Only the children could calm her down, reminding her that her past infatuation was over. She was no longer Aurelia; she was the reborn Anne.
She had her own career to pursue, her family to take care of, and two adorable babies who needed her.
