Chapter 480 Yesterday I Forgot to Close the Door

"I'll help you find it."

Nathaniel's long legs carried him to the door, but he paused before opening it.

Aurelia heard his footsteps stop and asked, "What's up?"

Nathaniel glanced at the slightly ajar master bedroom door, trying to remember if he had forgotten to close it yesterday. He thought he had.

Maybe he was just too rushed and remembered wrong.

"Nothing," he replied, opening the door and stepping out. He quickly returned with his phone in hand, and Aurelia took the opportunity to put on her underwear in a hurry.

When he came back in, she was fastening the clasp behind her back. The pure white lace bra covered skin that bore the marks of his bites.

Nathaniel's eyes lingered for a moment before he walked over to the bedside and helped her fasten the clasp.

Aurelia freed her hands to grab her phone and was startled to see over thirty missed calls, all from Joe.

Feeling anxious, she called him back, but no one answered. She quickly typed out a message to Joe:

"Joe, I didn't finish my design draft yesterday and slept at the office. Don't worry."

Seeing her serious expression, Nathaniel couldn't help but ask, "Something wrong?"

"Joe called me dozens of times last night. He probably realized I didn't come home."

"Want me to explain it to him?"

"No..." Aurelia almost blurted out. Letting him explain would only make things more complicated.

"I've already sent a message explaining."

"Alright, I'll go downstairs and get some stuff to make breakfast. Take your time getting ready."

Nathaniel left the room and headed downstairs.

After Aurelia finished dressing and freshening up, Dorothy and Jacoba were also up.

Nathaniel was busy in the kitchen, the faint aroma of food wafting out. Jacoba rubbed her stomach and said, "Mommy, I'm hungry!"

Nathaniel brought out a pot of noodles, along with sandwiches and milk.

The family sat down in the small dining room. Jacoba took a big bite of noodles and remembered something from last night.

"Mommy, I almost forgot to tell you. Joe called you last night. You didn't answer, so he called me."

Aurelia's hand holding the utensils paused. "What time?"

Jacoba tilted her head, trying to recall. "I don't know what time it was. I was asleep and got woken up by Joe's call. When I went to find you, you and Daddy were in the shower."

Aurelia choked a bit and glanced at Nathaniel.

So Jacoba had come to the master bedroom last night!

"You came to the master bedroom to find me?"

Jacoba nodded emphatically. "I heard you in the bathroom. The teacher said not to peek at people showering, so I didn't open the door. You should call Joe back. He was really worried when he couldn't find you last night."

Aurelia was very nervous. "What did you tell Joe?"

"I said Mommy and Daddy were in the shower and told him to call you tomorrow."

Aurelia suddenly found the sandwich in her hand unappetizing.

So much had happened last night. She regretted drinking that glass of wine; drinking always caused trouble.

Now she had no idea how to face Joe.

Nathaniel pushed a glass of milk in front of Aurelia. "Eat and drink. I'll handle whatever comes up."

Aurelia looked at him innocently. "Can you?"

Nathaniel sighed deeply. She still didn't trust him. He wanted her to rely on him more.

"Aurelia, give it a try."

After breakfast, it was time to take the kids to school. The family of four headed out.

On the way, Nathaniel reminded Jacoba, "Jacoba, the fact that Mommy and Daddy were showering is our little family secret. You can't tell anyone else."

Jacoba scratched her head, thinking Nathaniel had too many secrets. "But I already told Joe?"

"Then don't tell a sixth person. Only the five of us can know."

"Okay."

After dropping the kids off at kindergarten, Nathaniel drove to the company park. He walked Aurelia to the door of Karma Jewelry and watched her go in before leaving.

Aurelia turned on her computer and, as usual, checked her email first.

Aurora rushed in with her phone. "Ms. Semona, you're trending again!"

Aurelia's head throbbed. She felt awful every time she heard she was trending.

Yesterday's incident had been suppressed by Nathaniel's PR efforts, and Phoenix had also provided an explanation. She couldn't understand what else could be trending now.

She had been so busy with the kids all morning that she hadn't had a chance to check the news. Aurelia opened the app on her phone, and the top trending topics were all about her and Phoenix.

"@Phoenix @Karma Jewelry, Aurelia, why not just admit it openly? Why deceive your fans? We're not fools."

Aurelia quickly skimmed through the posts and understood the cause. A netizen had posted a detailed analysis of Phoenix's recent interactions with her, with plenty of evidence.

They had even dug up Phoenix's recent Instagram post, which showed a coffee cup from Aurelia's office, and several photos from the Sawyer family's birthday party, taken from angles that made them look very close.

Even with eight mouths, she couldn't explain it away.

Coincidentally, Karma Jewelry's ad campaign had just launched, with various ads and videos flooding the market, adding more fuel to the gossip fire.

Now, not just the internet, but the entire entertainment industry was buzzing about it.

Phoenix's career wasn't affected much. Celebrities didn't fear scandals; being ignored was worse.

Phoenix tried to calm his fans, urging them to stay rational and not harass unrelated people. He even warned that he would take action against anyone who harassed Aurelia.

Fans, however, missed the point and said he was being protective of Aurelia.

Phoenix couldn't focus on his scenes all morning, repeatedly messing up and delaying the shoot. The director was visibly annoyed, declaring that they would keep shooting until the scene was done, even if it took all night.

Everyone was exhausted and hungry, and the entire crew was filled with resentment.

Phoenix sat in a chair, unable to think about the scene. All he could think about was whether Aurelia was being stalked by his obsessive fans and if she was safe at work.

"Mr. Sawyer, you're making everyone miss meals and rest, while you sit here taking a break?"

Phoenix looked up. It was Lori speaking.

Phoenix's brow furrowed. He couldn't stand this pretentious woman who used underhanded methods to please the director. Worst of all, her acting was terrible, and she had risen to fame through shady means.

Unfortunately, today's scene required them to act together. His mistakes had given Lori a rare chance to shine.
