Chapter 472 Love for His Money
Once the kids were sound asleep, Aurelia picked up her phone and noticed a few unread messages from Nathaniel.
She opened Facebook and the first thing she saw was a photo.
Nathaniel was dressed in a meticulously tailored suit from his favorite bespoke brand. The suit looked new, a soft silver-gray that gave him a gentle appearance. She had never seen him wear this color before.
Below the photo was his message:
"Light-colored suit, just like you suggested. Do you think this is good for the school's opening ceremony tomorrow?"
Aurelia remembered suggesting he try lighter colors to seem more approachable and less aloof.
He had taken her advice to heart.
Aurelia replied, sharing Dorothy's words with him:
"Perfect, Mr. Heilbronn. You'll be the most handsome dad there tomorrow."
As soon as she sent the message, Nathaniel's video call came through. Aurelia quickly muted her phone to avoid waking the kids. She tiptoed out of the room and into her own before answering.
"I was just in Dorothy's room," she explained.
Nathaniel was still in his suit.
"Aurelia, does it really look good?"
He rarely wore such bright colors and felt a bit strange. But after she suggested trying lighter suits, he had a few made by his designer, and they had just arrived in time.
Aurelia didn't hold back her praise.
"Mr. Heilbronn, you look very handsome!"
Nathaniel scratched his eyebrow with his index finger. He had spent a long time in front of the mirror, and Phoenix's words had triggered his competitive spirit. He was now deeply worried that he might actually be getting old, and it was starting to show.
He noticed a fine line at the corner of his eye, visible if you looked closely.
"Aurelia, do you think I'm getting old?"
Aurelia found his question amusing. The usually confident Nathaniel was having a moment of insecurity about his age.
"Mr. Heilbronn, you're in your prime. Why would you think you're getting old?"
Nathaniel pressed on.
"Do you think my hairline is receding?"
Aurelia looked at his thick hair and couldn't understand his unnecessary worry. She couldn't resist teasing him.
"Mr. Heilbronn, as long as you have money, even if you go bald, the kids and I won't mind."
Nathaniel's brow twitched. He thought to himself, 'Why does she always talk about money? What if I go bankrupt one day?'
"If I ever run out of money, will you all leave me?"
"I'll have to think about that seriously."
Nathaniel felt a rare sense of crisis. The men around her were all wealthy, even the unreliable Phoenix. He silently resolved to make more money quickly. If he didn't, he might lose his wife and kids.
They chatted a bit more before hanging up. The next morning, Nathaniel was already parked outside the Semona Family's villa, waiting for Aurelia and the kids to come out.
Nathaniel stood by the car for a while, watching as Aurelia came out holding the hands of Dorothy and Jacoba. The kids were in their school uniforms, carrying little backpacks, and bouncing with excitement.
Seeing Nathaniel, Dorothy let go of Aurelia's hand and ran to him, throwing herself into his arms. This was the first time Nathaniel was attending a school event with her and Jacoba. She had felt it was too good to be true until she saw him.
"Daddy, you look so handsome today! You're the most handsome dad!"
"Really? Give me a kiss!"
Dorothy kissed Nathaniel on both cheeks, and Aurelia walked over with Jacoba.
Jacoba was more composed, but it was clear he was in a great mood. Aurelia had never seen him get ready for school so quickly. He had dressed himself, washed up, and eaten breakfast before she was even prepared. He was already at the door with his backpack, urging her to hurry.
It was obvious he was excited, too.
Nathaniel reached out a hand to Jacoba.
"Come here, let me give you a hug?"
Jacoba raised an eyebrow, his voice cool.
"Big boys don't need hugs."
Aurelia smiled. You shouldn't call kids small, especially at Jacoba and Dorothy's age. You need to tell them they're grown up to make them happy.
Jacoba considered himself a grown-up, even calling himself a big boy. He thought grown-ups didn't need hugs from their parents; that was for girls and little kids.
Nathaniel played along.
"Jacob is a big boy now. How about you give me a hug?"
Jacoba sighed. Why was Nathaniel as clingy as a girl?
He stepped forward, his small hand patting Nathaniel's back in a comforting gesture, as if to say he had hugged him.
A beautiful day started with a hug, and Nathaniel was in a great mood.
Aurelia and the kids got into the back seat, buckled up, and they set off.
The kids' school wasn't far, and there was no traffic, so they arrived quickly.
On the first day of school, the school had teachers welcoming parents and kids at the gate, and there was an archway for the kids to walk through.
Aurelia and Nathaniel followed the kids to the playground, where they lined up with their class.
Jacoba walked with his head held high and his chest puffed out, looking more confident than usual. He greeted his friends and introduced them.
"Hi, Helena, this is my dad and my mom."
"Juliet, your dad didn't come today? Both my dad and mom are here!"
"Katya, I told you my dad and mom would come to my school opening ceremony. You didn't believe me. See? I don't lie."
Nathaniel followed behind, feeling proud as Jacoba showed him off. He had missed four years but now had a chance to make up for it. He silently vowed never to miss any of the kids' school events again.
Kids might not say it, but they cared a lot.
Seeing how happy the kids were today showed how much they had envied other kids who had both parents with them at school.
The family of four found their class and lined up. They were all so good-looking that they drew a lot of attention.
