Chapter 489 Not Even a Minute Less

Aurelia's eyes were red at the corners.

"Rosalind, let's go. You owe my mom an apology!"

Rosalind knew she couldn't escape today. She asked cautiously, "After visiting the grave, will you bring me back? My grandson is asleep now. He can't stay out too long, or my son's wife will have words with me."

Nathaniel sneered, "You actually scared of someone? Guess everyone has their match."

"Let's go. This isn't the time for you to negotiate."

Rosalind went inside to grab a small blanket, wrapped the child in her arms, and obediently followed them out to Nathaniel's car.

The child was indeed sleepy, already dozing off in her arms.

Rosalind asked again, worried, "You won't do anything to me, right? You'll bring us back, won't you?"

Nathaniel glanced at the rearview mirror. The woman in the backseat looked loving, but inside, she was filthy. She had no intention of apologizing, only concerned about when she could go home.

Since she wanted to go home so badly, she might as well not go back at all.

"Rosalind, there will be a special car to take you back. But as for the child in your arms..."

Nathaniel paused and continued, "I think he shouldn't stay with you. He'll suffer."

Rosalind panicked instantly, "What are you saying? What are you going to do? Are you planning to sell my grandson to avenge the past? Let me tell you, that's illegal. If you dare take my grandson, I'll risk my life to fight you to the end. We'll go down together, I..."

Rosalind rambled on, but Nathaniel ignored her.

Aurelia was annoyed, "You tried to kill me twenty-eight years ago, and now you want to kill me again?"

Rosalind realized she had lost control and calmed down. Being educated, she quickly assessed the situation.

"I beg you, don't harm my grandson. If I lose my life today, so be it. The debt is mine alone; it has nothing to do with this child. I did it, let me bear the consequences."

Nathaniel deliberately scared her, "I see the child in your arms is quite good-looking. He could fetch a high price. Maybe I should contact some friends abroad?"

As he spoke, the car arrived at the cemetery and stopped.

Rosalind was terrified, sitting there in a daze, holding the child tightly.

"Please, don't take my grandson. I can't bear it. Don't do this, I beg you."

Rosalind got out of the car, her legs weak, and she knelt on the ground. She regretted not checking who was at the door before opening it.

Now it was too late.

"Twenty-eight years ago, I did wrong for a bit of money. I didn't hurt anyone or take lives. Please spare me. If you need my help, I'll do anything I can. Just give me a chance to atone.

Don't harm my child. My life is worthless, but this child is only a year old, and has just learned to call me grandma. He's the treasure of our family..."

Rosalind sobbed, terrified.

Aurelia looked at the frightened, weak Rosalind, her face dark with anger.

"You know the pain of being separated from your own flesh and blood? As a doctor, what right did you have to dispose of someone else's child? Is life so cheap to you?"

Rosalind just held the child and cried, trembling slightly.

If she had known this day would come, she wouldn't have taken those tens of thousands of dollars even if she had starved.

The young couple in front of her seemed like vengeful spirits, and she held her grandson. If she lost the child, she couldn't forgive herself or face her son and daughter-in-law. If the child were sold, the family would be destroyed.

She was the sinner of the family.

"I beg you, don't sell my grandson!"

Rosalind held the child and started banging her head on the ground, her forehead bleeding after a few hits.

Aurelia pulled her up, "Save your strength to kneel at my mom's grave."

Aurelia and Nathaniel dragged Rosalind to Brenda's grave.

The tombstone had a photo of Brenda in her youth, smiling gracefully. At that time, she didn't know her fate would be so troubled; she only saw Norman as her happiness.

Rosalind was dragged to the grave and knelt, looking at Brenda's photo and lowering her head. She was only a few years older than Brenda, holding her grandson, while Brenda's life was forever frozen in her thirties.

Rosalind cried, "Ma'am, I'm sorry... I was blinded by greed. I had my eye on a house and needed a bit more money. I hesitated and agreed.

I've had a hard time these years, haunted by nightmares, dreaming of the girl I sold dying in an accident, you and your daughter coming to take revenge. I've suffered too. Please persuade your children to spare my grandson. I'll turn myself in."

Aurelia was furious, "Rosalind, what do you mean you've suffered? You mean nightmares? You committed human trafficking. Your punishment should be hell!"

Rosalind wiped her tears, looking at the sleeping child.

"I'll accept hell. But you can't harm this child. I'll turn myself in."

Aurelia sneered, "You can think about that after kneeling at my mom's grave for three days and nights. It's cold at night, I'll take the child. Remember, three days and nights, not a minute less."

Aurelia took the child from her arms. Rosalind, terrified, was too weak to protect the child.

She saw Aurelia take the child and tried to grab him back, but failed. When she got up, Aurelia and Nathaniel were already out of reach. She knelt there, feeling drained.

Nathaniel looked at her coldly. Her pathetic state was only because she feared the child would be sold. He had only scared her, never intending to do such a heinous thing.

Not everyone was like Rosalind.

"Rosalind, stay here and kneel. Beg my mom for forgiveness. Kneel for three days and nights, then turn yourself in. Don't leave here, or you'll never see your grandson again."

Can't win me back
