Chapter 261 Power Outage at Home
Nova's internal alarm was going off like crazy. Caleb had told her to keep an eye on Nathaniel and not let him be alone with Aurelia.
After a few seconds of thinking, she sprawled out on the sofa in Aurelia's office, taking up the whole thing. "Anne, I'm not leaving. You can't just let me wander around, right?"
Aurelia sighed and plopped down in her office chair.
Nathaniel's eyes flicked over to Nova, and he didn't look too happy. First, he had to deal with Caleb, and now Nova. These people were relentless.
He couldn't say much in front of Aurelia. He had important stuff to discuss with her.
"Aurelia, this is for you." He slid the brand-new phone he bought this morning across the desk to her. It was the rarest model on the market.
"Nathaniel, you don't need to keep coming over here. For small things like this, I can have my assistant buy it." Aurelia didn't mean to offend him; she just thought he should focus on his work.
She knew how busy he was, running the Heilbronn Group and often working late into the night. Lately, he had been coming over a lot, and she worried Zack might be getting worn out.
Nathaniel paused and lied, "I'm not busy lately. I can handle work remotely."
Remote work was possible, sure. He had been up until midnight yesterday, needing to print new documents here and send them back for signing, which was half as efficient as being at Imperick.
The company's minor leaders were grumbling, and even Zack, who was usually on top of things, was struggling to keep up.
Aurelia opened the phone's packaging. "How much was the phone? I'll transfer the money to you."
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow and said lightly, "Isn't your money supposed to be with me? I'll just deduct it from there."
He was secretly pleased. Since she didn't want the card, it gave him a reason to keep giving her things.
Aurelia didn't respond. She took out a tool from the drawer, removed the SIM card from her old phone, and installed it in the new one.
Nathaniel watched her quietly until she had set up the new phone and transferred the files from the old one. Only then did he tentatively ask, "Aurelia, can I borrow half of your desk? The chair at home is uncomfortable and hurts my neck. Yours seems more ergonomic."
Before Aurelia could refuse, Zack suddenly appeared at the door with a laptop bag and a box of office supplies, knocking. "Mr. Heilbronn, I brought your laptop and charging cable."
Zack set the laptop on the desk and started arranging items from the box: Nathaniel's favorite coffee mug, his earbuds, eye drops, glasses, and even the photo album from his desk. He meticulously arranged everything, transforming the desk to look as if it belonged to Nathaniel.
It was clear Nathaniel intended to stay here for a while.
Aurelia looked at him with a questioning gaze. Nathaniel touched his nose and scolded Zack, saying, "I asked you to bring the laptop. Why did you bring so much stuff?"
Zack looked aggrieved. Every item here was something Nathaniel had specifically asked for. But he didn't dare expose his boss.
"Mr. Heilbronn, these are all essentials you need for work. The power is out at home, and the property management said it might be out for a few days. It's really inconvenient to work there. Please stay here for a few days. We just started a new project and really can't do without you." Zack saw Nathaniel give him an approving look, realizing his bonus for the month would likely be doubled.
It was the first time Aurelia heard that he had bought a house here. Last time, Joe mentioned he planned to buy a house, and Joe had notified all the local stores not to sell to him. Yet, within a few days, he had moved into his own house.
Aurelia pondered the situation. Someone as picky as him couldn't stand living in a hotel for long. Buying a house wouldn't be limited to just real estate agencies. There was nothing money couldn't solve in this world.
Aurelia glanced at the pile of stuff on the desk, feeling at a loss for words. Luckily, her desk was large, bought for convenience in design. She had personally picked it out at the market. Now, it benefited him.
Nova was shocked. If Nathaniel's actions reached Caleb, she could forget about getting the final payment she was supposed to receive. She might never get any pocket money from him again.
She had occupied the sofa, not expecting that he hadn't even considered it.
Nova immediately went to the office area outside, brought in a chair, and then placed it next to Aurelia's desk. "Anne, my neck hurts too. I need to rest here for a while."
She shot a challenging look at Nathaniel.
Nathaniel frowned slightly and said, "Has the Sinclair Family gone bankrupt recently? I ran into Uncle Luke at the hotel not long ago, and he was still doing business. How did it happen so quickly..."
Nova retorted angrily, saying, "The Sinclair Family is doing just fine!"
"I heard the big show the Sinclair Family invested in recently flopped. Are you going to lose a lot of money?"
Nova's eyes widened. The Sinclair Family was indeed arguing over this matter. Because of it, David had confined Caleb at home, making him study business every day. She thought,' Nathaniel's smug face—could it be that he orchestrated this whole thing?'
Nova asked, "How do you know so much?"
Nathaniel smiled without saying a word.
Aurelia's head was spinning from their argument, making it impossible to work. She took out her unfinished drafts, a pen, and laptop from the drawer. "You two have a good chat. I won't disturb you."
With that, she left with her things and went into the adjacent conference room, finally finding some peace.
Nathaniel stood with his hands on his hips, looking very serious. "Miss Sinclair, you're in your twenties, right? Don't you have anything to do? When my wife was your age, she had already won several awards."
Nova couldn't help but snort, thinking,' Who is his wife? Anne certainly isn't.'
She asked, "Didn't your wife die in a car accident four years ago? The person in front of me is Anne!"
Nova knew Nathaniel was trying to provoke her, so she held back her temper and didn't fall for it. No matter what, she had to stay on guard and keep an eye on Nathaniel for Caleb, ensuring that he and Aurelia never had a moment alone.
Nathaniel's eyes squinted as he took out his phone and found Chris's number, intending to ask when he would take Nova back. She was disrupting his personal life.
Before he could dial, Zack knocked and entered the room. "Mr. Heilbronn, our meeting is about to start. I'll move your computer and set up the equipment."
Nathaniel nodded at Zack, then gave Nova a look that seemed to say, 'I'll get rid of you soon!'
Zack, who was carrying the computer, looked around and finally entered the room where Aurelia was.
