Chapter 38 Can We Not Go
"Staying away from home, hiding in a hotel, and eating cheap takeout. Have you lost your mind?"
His words were as cutting as ever.
Aurelia continued eating her sandwich, not wanting to engage in an argument. She couldn't win against his sharp tongue, so why bother?
Nathaniel casually lounged on the bed, taking Aurelia's spot, and idly played with her phone.
Aurelia felt a sense of unease.
Her phone held too many secrets.
"What are you looking at?" She dropped her fork and instinctively rushed to get her phone.
Nathaniel, however, seemed to have expected that, holding it out of her reach.
She fell, landing on his chest. The loose robe Nathaniel wore opened slightly, revealing his well-built chest.
The tension in the room escalated.
Nathaniel adjusted his robe and teased, "Looks like you are quite enjoying touching my pectoral muscles?"
Aurelia, feeling a jolt, quickly took her hand away.
Nathaniel's gaze fell on her finger, feeling something amiss.
It didn’t last long before he realized the absence of her wedding ring.
His attitude during their marriage three years ago was rather perfunctory. Reed, in an attempt to appease Aurelia, purchased a pair of limited-edition rings, one of which she had worn incessantly for three years while his own still rested untouched within its jewelry box.
"Aurelia, where is your wedding ring?"
"It was stolen," she replied calmly, though it wrenched at her heart.
On the night before he mentioned divorce, Chelsea returned, and Aurelia's ring was stolen.
It was a strange coincidence.
Nathaniel's eyes darkened, clearly unsatisfied with her answer.
"Can you come up with a more convincing excuse? Dropping it down the drain would be more believable."
Aurelia tried to push herself up, but he exerted a force that pinned her down, causing her chin to hit his skin.
"What are you trying to do?" She glared at him.
"I'll give you another chance to come up with a reason," he said.
He didn't believe her story about the ring. The thugs who stole it were caught, and it was confirmed that they were only after valuables, not a ring.
"Can you stop being so hypocritical? Did you ever wear that ring? Why do you demand it from me?"
Nathaniel, unfazed by her questions, said, "Whether I wore it or not, I still need to know where the ring is. You know its value; it's worth a luxury apartment."
Aurelia snorted, "So you think I sold it? I regret not using it to buy a house; at least I would have a place to be alone instead of staying in a hotel."
Nathaniel pressed her down. "So you have developed a habit of running away? Tell me, what's so special about this hotel?"
Her name was not on the list Zack found, and she was clearly deliberately hiding from Nathaniel, which made him very unhappy.
"Don't play hide-and-seek anymore. You know that I can find you wherever you go. It's just a matter of whether I want to. I don't say you could leave. You'd better wait for me at home."
Aurelia sneered. "I think I don't have to report to you about anything. After all, that's what you did. We've signed the divorce agreement. Can't we just go our separate ways? I see you're not too eager to go back to that house."
Aurelia felt that compared to the house, the Jade Community was more attractive to him.
This statement made Nathaniel feel that the woman in front of him no longer resembled a good wife.
'What a stubborn woman! What are you talking about?'
"What do you want to play? Playing with Samuel? What makes you think I am not as good as him? If you ever feel the pangs of loneliness, feel free to reach out to me at any time. Whether it be for financial assistance or companionship, all your needs can be met by me."
Nathaniel was confident that Samuel would not be able to match his financial ability or certain aspects of his character.
Nathaniel controlled her by pinning her hands above her head. He moved his hand across her body, igniting her desire.
He knew exactly how to arouse her lust.
Aurelia's mouth felt dry, and she instinctively swallowed.
"Nathaniel, don't..."
She furrowed her delicate eyebrows and turned her head to avoid his kiss.
This reaction fueled his desire for conquest, and he wished he could immediately merge with her.
"Am I so unacceptable to you? Or is it Samuel..."
Aurelia finally couldn't stand his insinuations about Samuel.
"Nathaniel, Samuel is the name mentioned in my mother's will. That is why I want to find him. You really don't need to label me as an unfaithful woman because of this."
She would definitely find Samuel, and she would not give up because of his sarcastic words.
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, and the gloom in his eyes dissipated a bit. He gently tapped her nose with his index finger, threatening with a hint of anger in his voice, "It's better if he's not the fiancé your mother arranged for you. Otherwise, both you and him should be careful."
Aurelia was shocked. She had heard of his methods.
She didn't know who Samuel was.
But at least she felt that she had explained herself clearly at this moment.
"So, can you let go now?"
Nathaniel narrowed his eyes.
"Dream on."
The kiss fell again, intense and urgent.
Aurelia could hardly catch her breath.
She could feel a bulge in his crotch.
Aurelia knew it was just a normal physiological reaction of a man. He had the ability to separate sex and love clearly.
The same thing had happened countless times in the past three years.
The closet filled with designer bags and clothes was a witness to that.
But she couldn't do it.
A woman tended to have sex with the one she loved.
Now, she couldn't do that with him wholeheartedly, although she had made up her mind to let go of her feelings for him.
"Nathaniel, let go."
"Ouch!"
She couldn't help but whimper, and soon, their clothes were scattered on the floor.
Soon, they were barely dressed.
At that moment, Nathaniel's phone rang inappropriately.
Aurelia, under him, felt as if she had found a lifeline.
"Your phone," she reminded him.
Nathaniel glanced at the phone on the table, showing no intention of answering it.
The enchanting ringtone lasted less than a minute, and soon it rang again, with a clear trend of not giving up until it was answered.
Nathaniel's interest was about to be disturbed.
Nathaniel gave her a restrained look, lifted the blanket, got off the bed to get the phone, answered the call, and then climbed back into bed.
"Nathaniel, can you come over? I'm feeling a little uncomfortable right now. The doctor said tonight is critical, and if I can get through this, I'll be able to leave the hospital in a few days. If not..."
The person on the other end of the phone started to cry.
Nathaniel's expression was unreadable, but it was clear that he was worried.
Aurelia's rebellious psychology made her somewhat reluctant to let him find Chelsea. She really wanted to ask if Chelsea's heart disease is really that serious.
She wrapped her arms around his waist and looked at him with wet eyes.
"Can you not go?" she asked with a hopeful tone.
Nathaniel just said that he would satisfy both of her needs for money and sex, so it wasn't too much to ask for him not to stay, right?
