Chapter 1001 Really Worried He Has Some Terminal Illness
Thessaly kept pressing the button over and over, but the alarm never emitted any light or sound.
No power!
The battery was dead!
Thessaly felt a wave of despair wash over her. The hope that had just risen was now gone.
What should she do? Leave it to fate?
Kelvin would notice she hadn't been to the set, had no schedule, and was staying at the Walker Mansion. He'd realize something was wrong and come to rescue her, right?
Thessaly thought that her main task now was to protect the bugging device and successfully hand it over to Kelvin.
This was evidence, Brandon's incriminating evidence!
At Davis Group.
As usual, Kelvin walked into the company holding Penelope's hand.
"Morning, Mr. Davis. Morning, Mrs. Davis," the employees greeted them as they passed by.
"Kelvin," Penelope said, "I can go to the jewelry department by myself. You don't need to walk me to my desk."
"What's up?"
"Nothing, I can manage on my own. Even Sam and Lucy go to kindergarten by themselves. There's a sign at the gate that says 'Parents Stop Here, Kids Go On Their Own.' If little kids can find their seats by themselves, why do I..."
She felt like she was less capable than a child!
Every day, Kelvin insisted on walking her to her desk!
Penelope felt... embarrassed.
"So, you're feeling self-conscious," Kelvin quickly understood her thoughts. "You really care that much about what other people think?"
"It's not about others. I just feel like... I'm too dependent."
He ruffled her hair. "You're a senior designer at Adoring Cupid. Your work is highly valued, and your designs are popular. How could you be useless?"
"But in life..."
"In life, you have me. You have someone who loves you to rely on. Why not lean on me?"
Penelope was momentarily speechless, unable to argue.
Once again, under the watchful eyes of her colleagues in the jewelry department, Kelvin walked her to her desk and kissed her cheek before leaving.
"Penelope," Tina teased, "I remember you swore you wouldn't let Mr. Davis walk you in anymore..."
"I was wrong."
"Admitting it so quickly, huh?"
Penelope scratched her head. "I can't argue with him. He insists on walking me in, and he has good reasons that I can't refute!"
Tina looked envious. "That's what love from a husband."
"Alright, back to work," Penelope said, tapping Tina's head. "Have you finished your design draft?"
"No, I'm stuck. Penelope, can you take a look and give me some pointers? How can I make this part stand out?"
Penelope threw herself into work, discussing the design draft with Tina.
She didn't notice Kelvin had turned back to cast a profound, lingering gaze upon her.
Kelvin didn't take the elevator to the top-floor office. Instead, he left Davis Group.
"Mr. Davis," the driver asked, "where to?"
"The hospital."
"Yes, sir."
Kelvin sat in the back seat, pressing his fingers to his temples.
This time, he went to the hospital alone, leaving Ryan behind and instructing the driver to wait outside. He entered the clinic by himself.
"Mr. Davis," the doctor greeted him politely, "is your throat still bothering you?"
"Yeah, I'm coughing, and there's blood."
"Has the medication not helped?"
Kelvin replied, "The coughing's less frequent, and my throat isn't as itchy. But the symptoms are still there."
"Well..." The doctor thought for a moment. "Keep taking the meds. Your condition needs time to improve. The colder weather can easily cause discomfort and lead to bronchitis."
Kelvin's expression was calm. "I'll keep taking the meds, but I want more tests."
"Didn't we already..."
"Do them again," Kelvin insisted. "And send the results abroad for diagnosis by respiratory specialists."
The doctor nodded. "Sure, I'll arrange it. But sending the results abroad will take some time."
"I can wait."
"Alright, Mr. Davis."
Kelvin underwent a full heart and lung examination again.
He also had a genetic sequencing test, which was sent abroad for diagnosis.
By the time the tests were done, it was already noon.
Kelvin left the hospital, looking slightly tense, and reminded the doctor to keep everything confidential.
The doctor watched him leave, holding the previous test results, muttering to himself, "Are the rich really this afraid of dying? A little cough, and they need repeated tests and foreign diagnostics... It's just bronchitis!"
"A bit of blood in the cough, nothing serious. Just take the medication, talk less, and drink more water. No need to spend all that money. These tests must cost tens of thousands of dollars."
"I'll never understand the rich."
The doctor put away the test results and moved on to the next patient.
Kelvin walked out of the hospital, his expression heavy, his brow furrowed, deep in thought.
His health had become his biggest concern.
A simple cough shouldn't persist for so long.
He was genuinely worried he had a serious illness that domestic medicine couldn't detect, leading to a misdiagnosis of bronchitis or a minor throat issue.
Kelvin thought about what would happen if he were gone. What would Penelope do?
This was his biggest worry.
He knew Penelope was strong and independent. If he were gone, she would be sad and heartbroken, but she would pull herself together and continue living, taking care of their two children.
But just thinking about Penelope facing life's challenges alone, without anyone to lean on, made Kelvin's heart ache.
Lost in his thoughts, Kelvin didn't notice his surroundings.
But Brandon noticed him.
"Mr. Davis," Brandon approached, greeting him. "What a coincidence, running into you at the hospital."
Kelvin's expression instantly turned serious.
He looked at Brandon with sharp eyes.
There was no one else around, just the two of them, so they could speak freely.
No need to pretend!
"Not a coincidence," Kelvin said, his lips tight. "I didn't want to see you."
"But we'll be crossing paths many more times. Whether you like it or not, you'll have to deal with me. Penelope sees me as her best male friend, almost like family. Sam and Lucy call me Uncle Brandon. My presence in your family..."
Kelvin cut him off. "Brandon, is that all you have to boast about in front of me?"
