Chapter 1040 Are You Still the Brandon I Know?
She got up from the ground, her knees scraped and bleeding slightly.
Thessaly smirked, "Brandon, looks like you've hit rock bottom."
His eyes were practically blazing with anger!
"Stop fighting it. You knew this day would come when you did those things. In this world, retribution does indeed exist!, Brandon. Your reckoning is here!"
Brandon's chest heaved with fury.
At first, he had used Thessaly as a pawn, manipulating her in every way.
And indeed, because of Thessaly, his plans had gone smoothly.
Who would have thought that his cleverness would backfire?
In the end, it was Thessaly who destroyed him!
Thessaly stood tall and looked at Kelvin. "Mr. Davis, bring out the evidence. It's time to stop hiding it."
Penelope's eyes widened in shock.
What!?
The evidence was with Kelvin?
She had always thought... Thessaly had it!
But it was Kelvin all along!
He had kept it from her, never revealing a thing!
Penelope asked, "Kelvin, you..."
No wonder she had felt something was off with him lately, something strange she couldn't quite pinpoint. Was it because of this?
Or was there more she didn't know about?
Penelope's mind was a mess.
Kelvin pressed his lips together. "Thessaly, you're reckless!"
He had wanted to protect her, willing to keep the evidence hidden, not telling Penelope. But now... she was pushing it!
"We're already here," Thessaly replied. "Just do it. Bring it out!"
Brandon's face turned ashen.
He wanted to see Penelope's reaction, but he didn't dare face her!
"What evidence?" Penelope demanded. "Kelvin, give it to me."
She held out her hand.
Kelvin looked at her. "Penelope, it's not that I don't want to give it to you, but once I do, Thessaly..."
"I don't care!" Thessaly interrupted. "Mr. Davis, give it to Penelope! She deserves to know the truth about that night at the hotel! She has the right to know; she can't be kept in the dark forever!"
Penelope nodded. "Yes, I have the right to know."
Kelvin remained silent.
At that moment, Brandon shouted, "You can't give it to her!"
He couldn't hold back any longer, completely losing his composure.
Little did he know, his outburst only exposed him further.
Penelope looked at him. "Brandon, you're so agitated... could it be that everything that happened that night at the hotel was your doing?"
Brandon's face changed dramatically.
Seeing his expression, Penelope understood.
She had guessed right.
"Brandon, you..." Penelope opened her mouth, wanting to say so much, but in the end, it all turned into a sigh.
What was there to say?
The person she trusted the most, who had helped her the most, was the one who hurt her the deepest!
Silence. A deathly silence.
Brandon's breathing was heavier than anyone else's, his face contorted.
After a long while, Penelope spoke again. "You don't have to bring out the evidence. Brandon, tell me yourself what happened that night. You, tell me."
She looked directly at Brandon, her eyes steady and clear, not blinking.
Brandon only met her gaze for a second before looking away.
"Speak!" Penelope's voice suddenly sharpened. "You're so scared, rushing here to silence Thessaly. You even managed to keep Kelvin from revealing the evidence... What have you become? Are you still the Brandon I knew?"
From the moment she met Brandon, he had always seemed gentle and noble.
He had helped her, whether in small matters or big ones, always doing everything he could.
Even if it threatened his own interests, he didn't care.
That Brandon was someone Penelope would always remember and be grateful for.
Who would have thought... he could change too!
What else wouldn't change?
Penelope thought that Kelvin, standing by her side now, wouldn't change, right?
He would always be there, always love her, right?
He would... only Kelvin had always been there.
"Penelope, I, I..." Brandon tried to say something, but the words felt powerless.
How could he explain what he had done?
Could "I love you" justify it?
Using love as an excuse to hurt her, to destroy her?
"I don't want Kelvin's evidence, and I don't want to hear Thessaly's truth," Penelope said. "Brandon, I want you to tell me yourself. What happened that night at the hotel!"
Brandon clenched his fists.
Thessaly stood beside him, watching quietly.
See, the difference between love and indifference was so clear.
Brandon loved Penelope, so he was scared, completely panicked, and afraid of losing her.
But if it were Thessaly asking him now, he wouldn't show this expression.
Since she wasn't in his heart at all, she had no idea where his heart was!
After a few seconds of silence, Brandon spoke. "Penelope, I'm sorry."
"I don't want your apology!"
"Sorry," he repeated, "Penelope, I've done many wrong things."
Penelope opened her mouth to speak, but her throat choked up, and no sound came out.
Before she could say anything, her eyes were already wet.
She wanted to cry. Being betrayed by the person she trusted most was too painful; she wanted to cry out loud.
"That night... that night," Penelope took a deep breath, "you were conscious, weren't you? You weren't drugged, you knew everything that was happening, right?"
"Yes."
"And?" Penelope pressed, "Do I have to ask you questions one by one, and you answer one by one?"
Brandon met her eyes.
He forced himself to look at her, to face it all.
He had done it, and now, faced with these circumstances, he can only accept his downfall!
"Penelope, I... not only was I conscious, I was the one who planned it all." Brandon tried to speak calmly, to avoid upsetting her further. "When you and Thessaly were having dinner, I showed up. It wasn't a coincidence. From that moment, everything that happened next was my careful planning."
"I had Paul book a private room at the restaurant, waiting for me. Then, I deliberately went to your table and had a drink with you. The drug was in the water."
"And I had taken the antidote beforehand, so the drug didn't affect me... Paul and I were both conscious, while you and Thessaly were unconscious."
