Chapter 894 Confess Honestly
Penelope was barely dozing when she heard the soft shuffle of Kelvin's slippers on the carpet as he headed for the door.
Kelvin opened the door, looking less than thrilled. "What's up?"
"Mr. Kelvin Davis," the butler announced, "Mr. Liam Davis, Mr. Cooper, and Mrs. Wright have all arrived at The King Manor. They're in the living room having coffee."
"All three of them?"
"Yes, sir. I came to inform you right away."
The butler avoided glancing into the master bedroom, hoping Penelope was already awake and would come downstairs soon.
Kelvin asked, "Did they come together or separately?"
"Well, they arrived at the same time but in separate cars," the butler explained. "I'm not sure about the details. They all seemed to be in a normal mood."
Kelvin was puzzled.
What could have brought them to The King Manor so early in the morning without any heads-up?
"Got it," Kelvin nodded. "I'll be down in a minute."
Just as he was about to turn around, he heard Penelope's voice behind him. "What's going on?"
Penelope had already gotten out of bed, barefoot and in a hurry. "Why are they all here? Did something happen?"
Her first thought was about the kids.
"Where are Sam and Lucy?" she rushed to the door. "Are they awake?"
"They're still asleep. Everything's fine."
Penelope sighed in relief. As long as the kids were okay.
She had feared something had happened to Sam and Lucy!
But there wasn't much time.
Penelope needed to quickly freshen up and change to go downstairs and meet the elders.
She turned and ran towards the closet.
"Take it easy," Kelvin reminded her. "Don't rush and hurt yourself."
"What's going on? I have a bad feeling about this," Penelope said as she changed. "But everything's been so peaceful lately."
"I don't know either. Let's see what they have to say."
In the living room.
Liam sipped his coffee, smiling kindly.
At his age, he had weathered many storms and was adept at maintaining a calm facade, showing no sign of anything unusual.
Even though he had seen every single one of those photos!
"This coffee is quite good," Liam said. "You should try it."
Nicole smiled and nodded, but her eyes kept darting towards the stairs.
She was anxious, eager to see Penelope.
Connor, on the other hand, sipped his coffee slowly, contemplating how to find a moment to speak with Penelope alone.
The atmosphere was a bit tense.
Each of the three had their concerns, worried that their true intentions for coming to The King Manor might be discovered. They were all trying to hide it.
In reality, they were all here for the same reason!
Finally, the sound of hurried footsteps came from the stairs.
Kelvin and Penelope appeared, walking towards them.
Nicole, the most anxious, stood up immediately. "Penelope!"
"Mom," Penelope said, walking over and taking her hand. "Why did you come so early without telling me? I was still half-asleep."
Nicole sighed softly, tapping Penelope's forehead.
Seeing Penelope like this, she probably didn't know what had happened yet!
It pained her.
Thinking of this, Nicole glanced at Kelvin.
That look was full of scrutiny and dissatisfaction.
Kelvin, being who he was, noticed it right away.
What had he done to upset Nicole?
"Mom, what's wrong?" Penelope also found it strange. "You're acting like I've been through something terrible."
Usually, when Nicole saw her, it was all smiles and warm greetings.
Today, she sighed as soon as she saw her!
"Nothing," Nicole forced a smile. "I just missed you and the kids, so I came over early. Sorry to disturb you both. You weren't even up yet, and here we are."
"If you missed Sam and Lucy, you could've called me. I would've brought them over for dinner. It's such a simple thing."
"It's fine. You're busy. It's easier for me to come over."
Nicole glanced at Kelvin again.
This time, her dissatisfaction was even more evident.
"Mom," Kelvin said politely, "Sam and Lucy aren't up yet. If you want to see them, I can have the maid..."
Nicole cut him off coldly. "No need. I'll go upstairs with Penelope. You entertain the others. Don't worry about me."
Kelvin pressed his lips together slightly.
Nicole had a big issue with him.
At this point, Penelope also sensed something was off.
Nicole was usually quite satisfied with Kelvin, always greeting him with a smile. What had changed today?
She exchanged a glance with Kelvin.
Not knowing what was going on, they decided to stay calm for now.
"Alright," Penelope said. "Let's go, Mom. The kids will be thrilled to see you."
She took Nicole's arm and headed upstairs.
Seeing this, Liam spoke up. "Kelvin, come here. I need to talk to you."
"You need him?" Connor paused. "You go first."
Liam offered, "You need to talk to Kelvin, too? It's fine, you go first."
"No, you go ahead. I can wait."
Connor hadn't decided how to approach the conversation yet.
Should he question or inquire?
Watching Nicole and Penelope go upstairs, then seeing Kelvin follow Liam into the side room, Connor's brow furrowed deeply.
The aroma of coffee filled the air.
But Connor had lost all interest in coffee.
In the side room.
As soon as Kelvin walked in and the door closed, Liam's expression changed from kind to extremely serious.
"Kelvin!" he said sternly. "What are you doing? This family is happy and harmonious, and you're trying to ruin it?"
Kelvin frowned. "Grandpa, what are you talking about? I don't understand."
"Don't play dumb with me."
"I don't understand what you mean, Grandpa."
Liam snorted. "Confess now, or I'll show you the evidence and embarrass you! It's just us here, no outsiders. Speak up!"
Kelvin still didn't understand. "I have nothing to confess. I don't even know where to start."
