Chapter 786 I Can't Bring Myself to Call Him Dad

Sam grew increasingly angry, "Mom, didn't you notice? I was quite puzzled at the time. Although I had conflicts with Kelvin, I had a good relationship with Lucy. There's no way I would harm Lucy, so why was he always so guarded against me?"

Penelope said, "Well..."

How should she explain this?

Not just her, even Kelvin's expression was a bit unnatural.

At that time, he didn't know that Lucy and Sam were biological siblings. He always thought Sam was a smooth-talking, flirtatious boy.

He couldn't let Lucy, at such a young age, be deceived by Sam and follow him blindly!

So, Kelvin couldn't stand Sam.

Who would have thought that they were biological siblings?

They grew up together and knew each other inside out.

Their relationship was purely familial!

Kelvin was meddling unnecessarily!

But he had no idea that Sam was Lucy's biological brother before!

"Kelvin, you tell me," Sam said indignantly, "Even if you didn't know I was your son, Lucy and I were at least classmates. What right did you have to keep me away from Lucy?"

"I..." Kelvin was at a loss for words.

He didn't know how to respond and could only look at Penelope, his eyes pleading for help.

Penelope shrugged.

She couldn't help him either!

"I told you privately that Sam was a good guy, but you wouldn't listen," Penelope muttered, "You were so guarded, what could I do?"

Kelvin said softly, "You knew they were siblings, but I didn't. I just wanted to protect Lucy. In the end, I became the bad guy and a fool who was kept in the dark."

Penelope shivered.

Was he blaming her?

It was because she hid Sam's identity that Kelvin misunderstood the relationship between Sam and Lucy!

She quickly stepped in to explain, "Sam, Lucy was under a spell, and he was overly worried and anxious. Just think of him as having a problem in his head!"

Sam had a look of "Do you think I believe that?"

Penelope frantically signaled with her eyes. 'Believe it or not, you have to!'

"It's all in the past, don't dwell on it. From now on, the four of us will live together happily, and that's what matters most," Penelope said. "Sam, you can openly call him Dad now, just like Lucy does."

"None of us should hold onto the past." Penelope held Sam's hand with one hand and Kelvin's with the other, then placed their hands together.

Kelvin and Sam looked at each other.

After a few seconds, Sam turned his head away, "I can't say it."

He had always called him Kelvin and had often offended him.

Now, suddenly calling him Dad felt incredibly awkward.

The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed them back.

Kelvin's eyes dimmed a bit, but he said nothing.

"Actually," Sam said, "I had a pretty good impression of Kelvin at first. When I first saw him in the small town, I thought he was tall and handsome and thought it would be great if he could be my dad."

Kelvin remembered too.

That was his first time in the small town, waiting for Molly to show up in a private room.

But Molly didn't come.

Instead, Sam burst in from outside, climbed onto his lap, and sat there without any fear.

And Sam's first words were shocking. "Hey handsome, are you single?"

Sam recalled, "I was being bullied by some kids who said I didn't have a dad. In a fit of anger, I fought with them. When their parents surrounded me, Kelvin suddenly appeared, helped me out, and scared them off."

"But the next time we met, Kelvin was different, like he had changed into a different person. He was never that nice to me again!"

Penelope was about to say something when Kelvin spoke first, "It's okay, I can wait until the day you're willing to call me Dad."

"Sam, I really haven't fulfilled my responsibilities and duties as a father. It's only right that you're unhappy with me. I need to step out for a bit." Kelvin withdrew his hand and turned to leave, his steps a bit hurried.

"Kelvin." Penelope watched his back, biting her lip.

"I really can't say it, give me a little more time," Sam said. "Honey, will you blame me?"

Penelope shook her head, "How could I blame you? It's okay, I'll go check on him."

It was both her and Kelvin's fault.

They missed out on four years, wasted four years, and didn't build a foundation of affection with the kids.

Penelope followed him out.

Watching them leave one after the other, a sly look flashed in Sam's eyes.

How could he let Kelvin hear him call him "Dad" so easily?

Sam could tell that Kelvin was upset with his mom for not revealing his identity sooner.

Kelvin's words were full of sarcasm, and Sam caught it all.

Fine, since Kelvin blamed Penelope for hiding his identity, Sam would blame Kelvin for not treating him well!

When Kelvin stopped blaming Penelope and stopped being angry, Sam would stop blaming Kelvin and call him Dad!

For the sake of their relationship, Sam was really putting in a lot of effort.

Sam muttered to himself, "Mom, I can only help you this much. The rest is up to you."

"To be fair, you were at fault too. But of course, I'll side with you, I can't take Kelvin's side."

"You need to raise your status in the family a bit, show some presence as the lady of the house, okay?"

Sam shook his head as he spoke, "You told me early on to call you Mom, fine, I did. But what happened? Kelvin saw right through it, you were just wasting your effort."

If he weren't injured and just waking up, he would have run to the door to eavesdrop on their conversation.

Sam was dying of curiosity.

Outside the hospital room.

Kelvin stood quietly with his hands behind his back.

Hearing footsteps, he didn't turn his head.

Until Penelope's hand touched his sleeve and gently shook it, "Are you upset? Frustrated? Annoyed? Or are you mad at me?"

Kelvin pressed his lips tightly, saying nothing.

"You were a bit harsh on Sam before," Penelope said, "There were several times I couldn't stand it, but I couldn't be honest, so the relationship between you and your son became more strained."
