Chapter 988 I Feel You've Been a Bit Off All Day

Kelvin was teaching her... how to be tough.

She couldn't be soft, couldn't let her emotions get the best of her, and definitely couldn't fall for Brandon!

Finally, Kelvin said, "Just remember how Brandon didn't think twice about sending you to Paul's bed, and you'll keep your cool."

Thessaly's heart twisted painfully.

The call ended.

Thessaly still held the phone to her ear, unable to shake off the conversation for a long time.

Kelvin's words cut deeper than any sword... Yeah, the thought of Brandon using her, drugging her during dinner with Penelope, and then shoving her into Paul's arms, letting Paul do whatever he wanted... filled Thessaly with overwhelming hatred!

Brandon only saw her as a pawn! Something to be manipulated and toyed with whenever he felt like it!

The moment he decided to hand her over to Paul, he never thought about her feelings! And that moment was something Thessaly could never forgive!

Why did she have to fall for such a jerk?

"Brandon, Brandon..." Thessaly gritted her teeth, "Even if I love you, I'll make sure you pay for what you've done! You're not worthy of my love; it's you who doesn't deserve me! My body may be tainted, but my heart... is a thousand times cleaner than yours!"

She curled up on the floor, hugging her knees, trembling all over.

She was sinking deeper, but this was just the beginning.

Kelvin put away his phone and headed upstairs to the master bedroom.

But the room was empty.

Where was Penelope?

He was used to finding her at the vanity, taking care of her skin, or lounging lazily on the bed when he walked in.

The emptiness of the bedroom felt strange to Kelvin.

His throat itched a bit.

Luckily, a couple of coughs could ease the itch for now.

He coughed lightly, and just as he turned around, Penelope walked in from the doorway.

"Coughing again," she said. "Are you catching a cold?"

"Nah, it's probably just too dry."

"Let me turn on the humidifier."

Penelope, thoughtfully, turned on the humidifier, letting the mist rise and blend into the air.

Watching her do these things, so gentle and caring, Kelvin couldn't help but wrap his arms around her waist, pulling her into his embrace.

"What are you doing..." Penelope patted his hand, "Always so clingy."

"Just wanna hold you."

"Just hold?" Penelope asked, "Nothing else?"

Kelvin countered, "You want me to do something else?"

She blushed.

"Really, just holding. You need some rest, too," Kelvin said. "Can't keep you up every night."

Penelope turned to look at him, "I feel like you've been... off all day."

"Really?"

"Like your mind's elsewhere, as if something's bothering you." Penelope raised her hand to his brow, "See, it's been furrowed, you even have wrinkles."

She gently smoothed them out.

Because of their height difference, Kelvin bent down slightly so she could reach.

"What are you thinking about?" Penelope asked. "If you want to talk, I'm here to listen. If not... it's okay, I know you'll handle it. You just don't want me to worry."

Being married, Kelvin could easily read her moods, and she could often tell what he was thinking, too.

But... Penelope wasn't as accurate as he was.

He almost always guessed right, while she relied on luck.

That was because Kelvin was a master at hiding his feelings, always keeping a poker face.

"Nothing much, just some company stuff," Kelvin replied. "I saw Brandon and Thessaly together today, and it got me thinking."

But really, these weren't the things weighing on Kelvin's mind.

What lingered in his mind was the sight of the faint red in his palm from his cough.

That was blood. Coughing up blood. He knew what that meant...

"What are you thinking about?" Penelope asked. "Don't you wish them well?"

"Of course I do, but..."

Penelope looked at him with clear eyes, "But?"

"Penelope," Kelvin decided to probe her thoughts, "Do you think Brandon really likes Thessaly?"

"He confessed and pursued her. If that's not liking, what is? Thessaly doesn't have anything he could want, right? It's Thessaly who should be after Brandon's value. But Thessaly isn't the type to chase after benefits. So, they're in love! It's not just one-sided!"

Penelope answered confidently.

Only love could bind them together.

Kelvin asked, "But how long has it been since Isabella passed? How long since you and he became friends again?"

"People have to move forward. When the right person comes along, everything before suddenly doesn't matter as much."

Kelvin smiled, tightening his arms around her, "My Penelope, always so optimistic."

"Believe in love, believe in goodness."

"Then... if Brandon and Thessaly break up, will you still believe in love?"

Penelope playfully punched his chest, "Don't say such negative things! They just got together today, and you're already being a downer!"

Kelvin pressed his lips together, then scooped her up in his arms, "Alright, let's not waste our time talking about others. Come on, let's take a bath."

Penelope gasped, quickly wrapping her arms around his neck.

"You said we were resting tonight..."

"Yes, but we still need to bathe, right?" Kelvin headed straight for the bathroom, "Together."

Penelope nestled against him, smiling shyly.

"My Penelope, even decades from now, you'll probably still be this bashful..."

"I can't match your boldness."

"A man has to be bold to win the heart of the woman he loves."

The sound of running water and their playful banter filled the bathroom.

The night deepened.

Meanwhile, at the Walker Mansion.

Brandon sat in his study, expressionless, the harsh light casting a pallor over his face.

Across the desk stood a private investigator.

He asked, "How's the investigation on Thessaly going?"

"Mr. Walker, everything's normal, nothing unusual."

"That's all you have for me? Nothing else?"

The investigator replied, "I really haven't found... any anomalies with Ms. Winterbourne. She spends her days on set filming, then returns to the hotel, and goes back to the set the next day, always accompanied by her assistant and staff."

"And recently, when she was home alone, nothing happened?"

"No," the investigator answered. "Ms. Winterbourne's life is very simple and clean. I also checked her call records and found no frequent contacts, except for work-related matters."
