Chapter 38

The nurse seemed to be holding Penelope's hand, but really, she was half-dragging her along.

Penelope glanced back.

Fiona was looking down, and Kelvin had a comforting hand on her shoulder.

From Penelope's angle, she could see Fiona's smirk.

In the blood drawing room, Penelope eyed the long, thin needle in the nurse's hand and instinctively shrank back.

She was terrified; she'd been scared of needles since she was a kid, let alone having blood drawn.

She wanted to run and scream, but Kelvin's threat made her sit in the chair, enduring both physical and mental torment.

"How much are you gonna take?" Penelope swallowed hard.

"As much as needed," the nurse said, already sticking the needle in her vein.

Dark red blood flowed from her body into the blood bag.

"That's enough; it's 500 milliliters!" Penelope blurted out, "You can only take this much at a time!"

But the nurse didn't stop and pressed down on her arm. "Don't move, I won't be responsible if you get hurt."

"Stop it; it's 550 milliliters now." Penelope's voice was barely a whisper.

The nurse drew a full six hundred milliliters. "That's enough."

Penelope bit her lower lip, feeling cold and weak all over.

A normal person could only donate up to five hundred milliliters, but as a pregnant woman, she had six hundred milliliters taken at once.

Fiona's plan was downright evil!

This probably wouldn't be the only time; there'd be a next time and the time after that, until her body was too weak to keep the baby!

Footsteps came from the doorway, and Kelvin walked in. "Are you done?"

"Yes," the nurse answered respectfully, "I'll take it to the emergency room right away."

Kelvin waved his hand.

He stood in front of Penelope. "Michael had a sudden stroke because of you, so it's only right for you to donate blood."

Penelope asked, "Do you know how much blood they took from me?"

Kelvin spoke coldly, "As much as needed."

He didn't care, especially since saving a life was more important.

Penelope gave a pale smile. "After all, Michael is your future father-in-law, so his life is much more important to you than mine."

Kelvin said, "I've already lost my father; I can't let Fiona lose hers too."

She couldn't help but ask, "Why does Fiona deserve your favoritism?"

Kelvin replied, "Because she's my woman."

Because they had slept together, and Fiona had used her body to neutralize the drug he took.

Penelope trembled all over. "What about me? What am I to you?"

Kelvin responded, "Penelope, you're here to make up for your sins, not to enjoy life."

She looked at Kelvin's handsome face, feeling cold and desperate inside.

He lowered his head. "Your father killed my father, and you still want to kill Fiona's father? That's not going to happen."

"I didn't harm him!" Penelope explained word by word, "I didn't do anything!"

"I watched the surveillance footage. He was just trying to give you a gift with a smile, but what did you do?" Kelvin asked, "You pushed him away, showed him a bad attitude, and finally smashed the gift."

Penelope questioned, "Why would I accept his things for no reason?"

"Michael had good intentions. You refused, pushed him away, and smashed the gift, causing him to get emotional and have a stroke. So, it's your responsibility," Kelvin looked at her. "Donating blood to save him is not unjust."

What a way to say it was not unjust.

It felt like a knife cutting into her.

Michael and Fiona had set this up to target Penelope.

No matter how much she defended herself, she still fell into their trap.

The current situation was completely unfavorable to her.

"I was framed," Penelope choked out, "Only the person who framed me knows how wronged I am."

But no one believed her.

She wanted to touch her belly, hoping the baby could still be saved, but with Kelvin right in front of her, she didn't dare make the move.

Penelope slowly stood up. "I'm leaving."

Kelvin watched her indifferently.

The spot where her blood was drawn wasn't pressed down, and fresh blood dripped out, standing out on her delicate skin.

Penelope felt extremely dizzy, barely managing to walk to the door before she couldn't hold on any longer and blacked out.

Just before she fell, a pair of hands caught her. "Penelope!"

She tried hard to open her eyes but ultimately passed out.

She was worried about her baby.

Kelvin looked at the unconscious Penelope in his arms, frowning deeply.

She was so thin, her cheeks pale.

But was he feeling sorry for her?

He shouldn't have had such emotions!

"Mr. Davis, the blood has been taken to the emergency room," Fiona hurried over. "What happened to Penelope? I'll take her to the rest room."

"Okay," Kelvin handed Penelope over to her and left the hospital.

When Penelope woke up, it was already evening.

She opened her eyes and heard Fiona say, "Finally awake? Your body is quite strong; looks like we can draw more blood."

Penelope snapped, "You still want my blood!"

Fiona sneered, "Come on, you caused my dad's stroke, so you have to take responsibility. Donating blood is what you should do, and Mr. Davis agrees."

Penelope struggled to sit up. "You and Michael teamed up to put on this show!"

"That's right, who told you to be so stupid and insist on keeping this baby?" Fiona walked to the bedside. "Penelope, if you obediently have an abortion, I can let you go."

Penelope gritted her teeth. "No way."

This was her baby, and she wanted to keep it.

Fiona snorted, "Then we'll keep drawing your blood. Let's see if you can even protect yourself, let alone this baby!"

"Fiona, you want me to have an abortion because of the baby's father, right?" Penelope guessed.

Fiona's face changed, but she quickly denied it, "Of course not!"

Penelope confirmed, "I guessed right."

"Stop dreaming," Fiona deliberately uttered, "The baby's father is just an ugly, fat old man."

"I'm not that easy to fool. That night," Penelope remembered it clearly.

Although it was dark and she couldn't see his face, from his voice, build, and the faint fragrance on him, she could tell he was a high-quality man with taste.

Moreover, he had promised to marry her.

Such a man could never have been an ugly, fat old man.

"You still have the nerve to mention that night!" Fiona was insanely jealous. "You shameless woman! You even lost your virginity!"

Penelope sneered, "The ones who should be ashamed are you guys. I was perfectly fine in the mental hospital, and you sent me to the hotel!"

Fiona shouted, "But we didn't make you sleep with a man!"

Penelope spoke, "Fiona, what if I tell Kelvin about this?"

"How dare you?" Fiona screamed, "Then I'll expose your pregnancy and make Mr. Davis personally abort this baby!"

Penelope coldly withdrew her gaze and struggled to get out of bed.
