Chapter 1098 A Good Mommy Corrects Her Mistakes

Penelope finally got what was going on after Kelvin explained.

"Oh, so that's what this is about!" she said, rubbing her nose and giving Kelvin a glare.

Kelvin shrugged. "It's not like I asked you to come with me on my business trip," he said. And getting sick wasn't something I could control. Why did you blame me?

Penelope crouched down to look at Sam and Lucy, speaking sincerely. "Sam, Lucy, I'm really sorry."

Sam and Lucy just stared at her in silence.

"I should have told you before I went to find Kelvin," Penelope admitted. "But I missed your dad so much... I couldn't help it."

"You know, ever since we got back to LA, we haven't spent a night apart. So when he went on his trip, I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned all night, and the next day, I went to find him."

Sam clicked his tongue. "You could have just told us. Why did you have to hide it?"

"Well..."

It was all because of Sam! He had asked Kelvin where he was during a video call and mentioned that a woman was with him. Kelvin couldn't handle it, so she had to reveal herself!

Now that they were home, Sam and Lucy were teaming up to question her!

"Okay, I was wrong," Penelope said. "I promise I'll be honest with you from now on."

Sam looked at her. "You even lied and said you were sleeping over at Monica's. I was confused because I knew Monica would want to spend time alone with Timothy. I can't believe you lied, Mom."

"Yeah, Mom," Lucy added. "If you had just told us you missed Dad, we would have understood. We could have taken turns sleeping with you if you were scared at night, but you refused."

Penelope was at a loss for words.

"I was wrong, I was wrong," she kept saying. "Can you forgive me? Please?"

She looked at them with pitiful, pleading eyes.

Lucy softened immediately. She hadn't really been mad at Penelope in the first place.

"Okay, okay," Lucy said. "Admitting your mistakes makes you a good mom!"

She happily threw herself into Penelope's arms.

Penelope hugged her tightly and kissed her cheeks. "I've missed my sweet girl so much."

Even though she had been away, Penelope had been thinking about Sam and Lucy the whole time.

If Kelvin had really been on a business trip, she would have missed him, but wouldn't have flown out to be with him. She could handle missing Kelvin.

But Sam and Lucy had been with her since they were born. Especially Lucy, who had never been apart from her for a single day.

Sam had been separated from her for a while because of some identity issues and had stayed with the Walker family.

This time, it was unavoidable. Penelope hadn't seen Sam and Lucy for a week, and it felt strange.

After kissing Lucy, Penelope turned to Sam. "Aren't you going to give me a hug?"

Sam shook his head coolly. "Boys don't need to hug and kiss all the time. It's not manly."

"Alright, but remember, you're the one refusing my hug."

Sam nodded. "Don't treat me like Lucy. She's a girl, and I'm a boy. It's different!"

"Okay," Penelope said. "How do you want me to treat you then?"

"Just don't pull my ears."

That was Sam's small request. His ears were always getting pulled by Penelope!

Penelope laughed. "I won't pull your ears. But I remember someone who got sick and was so weak, he slept in my arms. He was scared of getting shots, too."

"When he had to get his blood drawn, he made a fuss and almost cried. He didn't want the nurse to touch him. Kelvin and I had to convince him to let them draw his blood."

"At that particular moment, he didn't care about being manly. Why did he yearn for my embraces and kisses and wouldn't let go of my hand?"

"Sam, do you know who that was?"

Sam's face couldn't hide his embarrassment.

Penelope saw his expression and wanted to tease him more. Sam was still young, and even though he was incredibly smart, she could still tease him sometimes. When he grew up, she wouldn't have this chance anymore!

Lucy answered quickly, "It was Sam! He got sick recently and missed a day of preschool!"

"That's right, Lucy! You're so smart!"

"Well, I... that was because I was sick. Sick people are weak! I'm fine now, and I don't need hugs or comfort!"

He pointed at Kelvin. "Even Dad, as big and strong as he is, would feel weak and tired if he got sick. He might even be a little scared of shots and medicine!"

Penelope quickly said, "Don't say such unlucky things. We all need to stay healthy!"

Kelvin had just been discharged from the hospital! Recently, even Sam, who was usually very healthy, had caught a cold and a fever. Penelope felt uneasy, always worried. Now, everything was perfect, and all she wanted was for her family to stay healthy.

That night, Penelope personally took care of Sam and Lucy, helping them with their bedtime routines. She read Lucy a story, tucked her in, and then went to Sam's room to chat with him until he fell asleep. Finally, she returned to the master bedroom.

"Sam and Lucy have been so clingy since I got back," Penelope said, sitting at her vanity. "Sam acts all tough, but he misses me, too. He just doesn't like to show it."

She turned to look at Kelvin, who was lying in bed. "You're the same way, so reserved. You and Sam are so alike."

Kelvin was reading a book, wearing his gold-rimmed glasses, looking very refined. But he hadn't turned a page in a long time.

"Are they asleep?" Kelvin asked, looking up.

"Yes, we should go to bed too."

"Alright," Kelvin nodded. "We can finally do what we couldn't in the hospital."

Penelope blushed.

"Are you sure?" she asked, slipping under the covers and snuggling up to him. "Maybe we should wait another fortnight?"
