Chapter 807 Even You Are Leaving the Walker Family
Kelvin scowled deeply.
Sam grumbled, "Man, he's so careless. I don't want him around. Just looking at his face almost cured my stomachache!"
Penelope was already laughing uncontrollably on the couch.
"Good thing Kelvin's a guy," Sam continued, "otherwise he would've seen everything."
"You think I want to look?" Kelvin shot back.
"But you did look."
Kelvin replied coolly, "Whatever you have, I have too."
Sam was left speechless! Finally, he was quiet! He couldn't argue back!
In the silence that followed, Penelope's phone rang.
She glanced at the screen—it was Brandon calling.
She instinctively looked at Kelvin. "I'll take this outside."
"Take it here," Kelvin said, stopping her. "Is there something I can't hear?"
"Brandon and I have no secrets. I just didn't want you to get jealous."
"If you take it outside, I'll get suspicious."
"Fine." Penelope nodded and answered the call.
"Hey, Brandon," she said softly, "what's up?"
There was a pause before Brandon's voice came through. "Did you have Ruby move out of my place and into The King Manor?"
"Yeah, Sam and Lucy really need her around."
"So Sam won't be coming back to the Walker family." Brandon paused. "He has a new home now, a place where he belongs. Why would he come back to me?"
Penelope gripped her phone tightly, unsure of what to say.
"Well..." she hesitated, "you can see him anytime you want. He can still visit the Walker family."
"Penelope, once someone leaves, it's not easy for them to come back."
It was Brandon who had brought Sam from a small town to LA, and let him stay at his place. Brandon had arranged his school and taken care of everything. He did all this for Penelope. He knew she missed her son and wanted to keep him close, but didn't have a good reason. She was also afraid Kelvin would find out about Sam. Brandon understood all her concerns and worked tirelessly to solve her problems, day after day, year after year.
From the time she called him from the operating table, begging him to save her and her child, to when she wanted to leave Kelvin and LA, Brandon had always been there for her. But what did he get in return? A thank you and the status of a family friend. Was that what he wanted?
A heavy silence fell.
Penelope glanced at Kelvin, her eyes filled with helplessness, biting her lower lip.
Brandon's voice broke the silence again. "Sam never really belonged to the Walker family. He was just staying temporarily. I got too attached, treating him like my own son. He was always meant to be with you, and wherever you are, that's where he'll be."
"I'm sorry. Pretend I never made this call. I lost my composure."
"Actually, I just feel... never mind."
Brandon hung up abruptly, not giving Penelope a chance to respond.
Staring at his phone, Brandon suddenly clenched it and hurled it to the ground with all his might.
"Smash!"
The phone shattered into pieces instantly.
Ruby, who had just walked in with some items, was startled and didn't dare make a sound.
What happened to him? Why such a sudden outburst?
She had been with the Walker family for years and had never seen him like this. He was always polite and composed, rarely raising his voice. What had changed?
Brandon's face was dark, an expression that didn't belong on him. But there it was, cold and angry.
His chest heaved with rage.
In the vast Walker family mansion, Isabella was gone, Sam had left, and now Ruby was moving to The King Manor. What was left?
Only him.
Brandon stood up abruptly, stepped over the shattered phone without a second glance, and his face was expressionless.
He hadn't walked far when he noticed Ruby at the door.
"Ruby?"
"Mr. Walker," Ruby quickly lowered her head. "I've packed my things. I came to say goodbye."
Brandon's expression softened slightly, forcing a small smile. "You're moving to The King Manor?"
"Yes. Mr. Cooper and Miss Cooper are there. I raised them, and they can't bear to be without me. I have deep feelings for them, too."
"Ruby, do you remember your original role?"
"Yes, I was the Walker family's housekeeper, specifically taking care of you, Mr. Walker."
She had left due to health and family reasons, but Brandon had kept in touch, sending gifts during holidays. Later, he asked her to take care of someone, Penelope, who was pregnant and withdrawn. Ruby had been by her side ever since.
"So, even you are leaving." Brandon's smile turned bitter. "In the end, I can't keep anyone."
"Mr. Walker."
"It's nothing." Brandon composed himself. "Penelope is kind. She'll treat you well."
"Mr. Walker, now that Ms. Mitchell is gone, you should find someone new. This house needs more life. Look at Mr. Cooper and Miss Cooper, how adorable they are. You should get married, have kids, and build a happy family. This house is too big and empty otherwise."
"Marry? Have kids?"
"Yes, at your age, you should."
"Finding someone new, is it that easy? If I can't marry the one I want, what's the point? What if the next one is another Isabella?"
"No, Mr. Walker, you can't think like that," Ruby advised. "There are many good women out there. You're an excellent man; you can find anyone you want!"
Brandon chuckled bitterly.
Whom he wanted was just one person. But it was impossible now; he couldn't have her.
Seeing his mood, Ruby tried to lighten the conversation. "Today, Mr. Cooper said that once he's out of the hospital, he'll find you a woman who's beautiful, kind, and perfect in every way. Nothing less will do."
