Chapter 884 She Was Brandon's Prey
"I'm just an investor, not a filmmaker. I can't make a movie or TV show successful just by throwing money at it and micromanaging," Brandon said. "That's art, and I don't get it. I just handle the investments and stay out of the director's way."
Thessaly nodded, admiration in her eyes. "Meeting an investor like you must make the director happy."
"It's a win-win. He wants to create art, and I want to make a profit. He's the director, and I'm the businessman."
Brandon turned to her, a slight smile on his lips. "Thessaly, are you hoping I'll use my influence to get you the lead role?"
Thessaly quickly shook her head. "No, that's not what I meant. You misunderstood."
Before she could finish, Brandon interrupted, his tone meaningful. "I hope you'll let me use that influence to choose you."
Her heart skipped a beat.
The implication of his words was deep.
Thessaly couldn't help but overthink, but she didn't dare dwell on it.
Brandon didn't continue the conversation, instead changing the subject. "Even though the script isn't finished yet, I've seen the character profiles. You're perfect for the role. Out of all the actresses in the industry, you're the one I admire the most."
Brandon's words were even more suggestive than his previous comment about using his influence.
Thessaly's mind was in turmoil.
She didn't know if Brandon's words were unintentional or if he had another motive.
This was their first meeting!
Thessaly steadied herself, trying not to overthink and keeping the conversation light.
"I remember Mr. Davis and Penelope both said they admired me," Thessaly said with a smile, looking ahead. "I didn't expect to be so well-liked."
"You should be more active, not just in acting but also in attending more public events. You're even more beautiful in person than in photos, and you'd easily gain a lot of fans. Even I, from admiring you on screen to meeting you in person, am almost becoming your fan."
Brandon's words seemed casual, but they kept tugging at Thessaly's heartstrings.
Fortunately, she remained calm and composed.
Having seen too many people in the industry and too many men who were only interested in her looks, Thessaly wouldn't easily let herself fall.
Whether Brandon was sincere or not, she would remain unchanged.
Thessaly wouldn't flatter or cater to Brandon because of his status.
She had no intention of marrying into a wealthy family like other actresses.
If she ever approached a man, it would be because she genuinely liked him.
In Thessaly's view of love, only true affection was worth giving everything for.
She wouldn't be swayed by fame or power; she would only submit to the man she truly loved.
Moreover, Thessaly was very clear that this was her first meeting with Brandon.
Everything was just beginning!
Brandon's expression cooled for a moment before returning to normal.
Thessaly was more challenging than he had imagined.
Not easy to catch.
He had to give her more credit.
When they arrived at their destination, Thessaly unbuckled her seatbelt. "Thank you, Mr. Walker."
"Hmm?"
"Brandon." She smiled faintly, her beauty both cool and gentle. "You've helped me twice now, and I won't forget it."
"So, how will you thank me? Dinner?"
She was a bit taken aback by his suggestion, but nodded. "Sure, I owe you one. Just let me know when you're free, and we'll grab a meal together."
"Sounds good." Brandon nodded. "Watch your step."
His half-joking, half-serious tone made Thessaly's cheeks flush slightly.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, she tucked her hair behind her ear to hide her reddening cheeks and got out of the car.
Although Thessaly didn't look back, she could sense his gaze following her.
It wasn't until she walked through the door that the feeling disappeared.
At the same time, Brandon's car slowly drove away.
He had waited until she safely entered the building before leaving, showing thoughtfulness and care.
Was this attention due to his inherent manners, or did he like her?
Love at first sight?
When Brandon had saved her from the skateboarder, she hadn't known his identity.
She didn't know that the man in front of her was the CEO of The Walker Corporation, the film's investor, and the golden backer many actresses pursued.
Thessaly remembered her first impression of Brandon.
A gentleman, warm and refined.
At that moment, Thessaly didn't know that Brandon's approach was a well-planned scheme.
She was Brandon's prey!
That evening, at The King Manor.
In the study.
"Hello?" Kelvin answered the phone.
"Mr. Davis," Ryan's voice came through, "I have the results of what you asked me to investigate this morning."
"Go ahead."
"The restaurant where Brandon dined does sell wine. However, according to the order records, Brandon didn't purchase any wine there that night."
Kelvin frowned. "But there was a bottle of wine on the table."
He had seen it, and Penelope had admitted that Brandon poured her a glass, which she sipped.
"That bottle of wine was brought by Brandon himself," Ryan explained. "The restaurant only handled the opening and pouring of the wine. They had no other involvement."
Kelvin let out a cold snort.
So, Brandon had brought the wine himself.
That meant he could have put anything in it!
Anything he wanted, without any restrictions!
Kelvin even suspected that Brandon had added something to enhance the mood or stimulate excitement, in such a small amount that it was almost undetectable!
And since Penelope had only drunk a little, it wouldn't have had much effect!
Kelvin further speculated that Penelope's period had coincided with the wine's effects, causing her severe cramps and unusually heavy bleeding.
In all their years together, he had never seen her suffer so much during her period that she couldn't even speak.
The more he thought about it, the more anxious he became, slamming his fist on the desk!
These were just his suspicions, with no concrete evidence!
That bottle of wine was probably destroyed by Brandon that very night!
If Kelvin told Penelope now, she wouldn't believe him!
At this moment, Kelvin was just relieved that he had arrived at the private room in time to pick up Penelope!
If he had been even a little later, who knows what could have happened?
Kelvin shuddered at the thought.
"Understood," he replied in a grim voice. "Don't let anyone know about this, especially Brandon. We don't want to alert him."
"Yes, Mr. Davis."
Hanging up the phone, Kelvin rubbed his temples.
Brandon was the prime suspect, but also the hardest to prove guilty.
