Chapter 1082 I Want to Do Something for You
"Am I gonna squish you?" Penelope asked, worried. "What if I kick the blanket off or roll over in my sleep?"
"Don't worry about it," Kelvin reassured her, resting his chin on her head and wrapping his arm around her waist.
Just lying there quietly like this was already wonderful.
In the future... it would be rare to have such peaceful moments, and he wouldn't be able to hold her like this anymore.
"There's still one more bottle of medicine to finish," Penelope whispered. "I need to keep an eye on it and call the nurse to remove the IV when it's done. Then I'll go to sleep."
She said that, but maybe she was too tired, or maybe Kelvin's embrace was too comfortable. Within five minutes, she was fast asleep.
Her breathing became steady.
She had spent the whole day anxiously waiting, worried and scared, and then had to muster the strength to face Sam and Lucy at home. She was truly exhausted.
Kelvin saw all her efforts.
This was just one day, and it had already worn her out like this. If every day were like this, what would she become?
Kelvin didn't dare to think about it.
Why make her so weary and worried for him?
"Penelope, my dear..."
He murmured softly, calling her by the name that was uniquely his.
Dear.
Only Kelvin called her that.
And only when Kelvin called her dear did she respond.
Kelvin held her, his eyes filled with sadness and heartache. Slowly, a single tear rolled down from the corner of his eye, disappearing into his hairline.
A man's tears were precious.
And Kelvin was no ordinary man.
But no one would know about this tear, and he wouldn't let anyone see it.
Kelvin kissed the top of her head.
The next day.
Penelope woke up groggily, squinting at the bright daylight outside.
What... it was already morning?
It was already morning?
She was supposed to keep an eye on Kelvin's IV and call the nurse to remove the needle!
But she fell asleep? And slept through the whole night?
"Awake?" Kelvin's low voice sounded above her head. "Did you sleep well?"
"I..."
Penelope didn't know how to respond, feeling a bit embarrassed and not daring to look him in the eye.
How embarrassing, and so irresponsible!
She quickly checked the infusion bottle, which had already been removed from the stand.
"If we waited for you to wake up to remove the needle, there would have been trouble," Kelvin teased. "Good thing I took care of myself."
"I really wanted to keep an eye on it for you. I was worried about your health, but I'm not sure why... I just fell asleep..."
She had been on edge all day, running back and forth between home and the hospital, and it had drained her completely.
Plus, Kelvin's embrace was unusually warm and comfortable, so she quickly fell asleep.
"As long as you slept well, that's all that matters. You worked hard yesterday." Kelvin patted her hair. "I feel much better today, not as exhausted as yesterday."
Penelope raised her arms high, suddenly full of energy: "That means... we're both getting better! Everything will keep getting better!"
He looked at her, a smile playing on his lips.
She was being playful, and he was smiling.
It felt like they weren't in a hospital room but in the master bedroom of The King Manor, their own cozy little nest.
"Are you hungry? Want something to eat?" Penelope rubbed her chin against his chest. "I'll go get us some breakfast, okay?"
"Let them handle that. It's freezing outside, and I don't want you catching a cold."
"I want to do something for you, not just sit here. And... I fell asleep first."
Penelope felt so embarrassed just thinking about it!
So embarrassing!
Seeing her unwavering determination, Kelvin agreed: "Alright, you can get whatever you want. I'll eat anything you bring."
As his wife, Penelope knew his tastes well.
"Got it!"
She quickly got out of bed, put on her down jacket, wrapping herself up tightly, and spun around in front of him: "Do I look like a mummy?"
He laughed: "A little, but I've never seen such a good-looking mummy."
Penelope was a bit surprised. "Did you put honey on your lips today? You're so sweet-talking!"
"Yeah, do you want to taste and see how sweet it is?"
Penelope glared at him playfully, her cheeks turning pink.
"Just a kiss, and you didn't even kiss me yet, and you're already blushing?" Kelvin raised an eyebrow. "We have two kids, and you're still so easily embarrassed, Penelope..."
"Do you think everyone is as shameless as you?"
"Am I shameless?"
Penelope decided not to argue with him.
Because she couldn't win!
As she changed her shoes, she suddenly remembered something and said, "I told Sam and Lucy that you were on a business trip and would be back in a week. If you have time tonight, give them a video call."
"Since they came back to me, I haven't been on a business trip. Did they believe it?"
"Lucy believed it and even asked me what a business trip was. Sam, though..."
He was full of wild ideas.
"What did Sam say?" Kelvin was curious. "What did he say?"
Penelope pouted. "He told me to be vigilant, to keep an eye on you, in case some woman outside tries to steal you away, or you get any inappropriate ideas... I don't know why he has so many strange thoughts. Our relationship is obviously very good."
Despite her and Kelvin's strong relationship, Sam was always worried... that Kelvin might have an affair?
She couldn't understand it.
Kelvin didn't respond immediately, just furrowed his brow slightly.
Penelope continued, "Last time you worked late at the office, while I was helping Sam and Lucy with their homework, Sam secretly told me that your sudden overtime was suspicious. This time, he thinks it's even more suspicious."
"But the truth is, you didn't lie to me. Everything is normal. I didn't know how to answer Sam, so I just tugged his ear a bit."
"Luckily, he's easygoing and didn't hold a grudge. If it were Lucy, I wouldn't have the heart to tug her ear, and she would be sad for a long time, thinking I didn't love her anymore."
Kelvin replied, "Lucy wouldn't say things that make you want to tug her ear."
"Right!" Penelope nodded repeatedly. "Exactly. Now that you mention it, I don't feel guilty about Sam at all!"
Initially, she contemplated whether her approach had been excessively severe.
Sam's words did have some logic, but they didn't apply to her and Kelvin.
