Chapter 423 It Hurts so Much, Let Go of Me
Madison grabbed Lucy's arms.
Lucy’s lower body was near Penelope, but her upper body leaned toward Madison.
Madison yanked hard, trying to pull Lucy away, not realizing she was hurting her.
Red marks soon appeared on Lucy's arms.
Lucy cried out, "Bad woman, let go! I want my Mommy. Don't hold me..."
Madison echoed, "Yes! Let go!"
The more she spoke, the harder she pulled.
Penelope watched, fearing Lucy's arm might dislocate.
Lucy’s cries grew louder. "It hurts! Let go of me..."
This scene broke Penelope's heart.
Even though she wanted to take Lucy away from Madison, she couldn't bear to see her hurt.
If this continued, Lucy would really get injured.
Madison wouldn't let go, but Penelope, as Lucy's mom, felt the pain and had to release her.
Penelope slowly let go.
Seeing Penelope's grip weaken, Madison triumphantly pulled Lucy into her arms.
Lucy clung to her neck, burying her face. "Mommy..."
"Don't be afraid," Madison soothed. "I'm here. I won't let anyone take you away, especially not this bad woman!"
Penelope stared at Lucy's arms. The red marks were obvious, caused by Madison's forceful pulling.
It was clear who the real mother was.
Only Penelope worried about Lucy getting hurt and had to let go.
And Madison?
Even if Lucy's arm dislocated, she would stop at nothing to snatch her away.
Could Penelope really not win against Madison?
No, it was her soft heart. She cared about Lucy.
"Madison..." Penelope's eyes were blazing with anger. "Give me back Lucy. Give me back my Lucy!"
"Penelope, do you really think I alone made Lucy so attached to me?"
Penelope became serious. "What do you mean?"
"Lucy is here. I don't want to say."
"Who is helping you?" Penelope asked. "Who helped you take Lucy?"
Madison smiled. "Who do you think? Aren't you smart? Figure it out."
Madison carried Lucy back to the hospital bed, gently coaxing, "Don't be afraid, Lucy. Stay here. I'm going out to talk to Daddy and auntie."
"Don't go, Mommy," Lucy stopped her. "They will hurt you."
"I will protect myself. You wait here."
"Then I'll go with you."
Madison shook her head. "No, Lucy. You'll distract me."
This scene of motherly love was like a knife to Penelope's heart.
Madison seemed good to Lucy, but it was all for herself.
At critical moments, Madison didn't care about Lucy's feelings at all.
Just like when she was pulling her earlier, Madison only wanted to win, ignoring Lucy's cries of pain.
If it were anyone else, Penelope might have given in, leaving Lucy with Kelvin, staying with the Davis family, and going back to live with Sam.
But this was Madison.
Madison wouldn't be good to Lucy!
After comforting Lucy, Madison stood up. "Let's go out. Some things shouldn't be said in front of the child."
Her sudden cooperation and willingness to talk surprised Kelvin.
He was always cautious and found Madison's behavior suspicious.
He feared she had a new trick up her sleeve.
"What do you want to talk about?" Kelvin asked. "Are you going to use Lucy to threaten us?"
Madison smiled. "Didn't Penelope just ask who helped me take Lucy? I'm going to answer her question!"
"How could you possibly tell the truth?" Kelvin saw through her trick immediately.
"Fine, then I won't say it." Madison shrugged. "If Mr. Davis doesn't believe me, there's no point in talking."
Penelope stared at her. "Say it."
"Okay."
Madison walked towards the door.
Penelope was about to follow, but Kelvin stopped her. "Penelope, she's not that kind-hearted. Don't fall for her trick."
"Kelvin..." She brushed his hand away. "I really don't know what else to do."
He pursed his lips and reminded her, "Don't believe Madison's words."
"She didn't say I had to go alone. You listen too."
Penelope wanted to know whose name Madison would say.
Who could have succeeded while she was guarding Lucy day and night?
Who had such great ability?
In the hallway.
"Just say it," Penelope said. "Don't beat around the bush."
Madison looked at Kelvin with seductive eyes, twirling her hair.
Getting Lucy was her first step.
The second step was to get Kelvin and have a child of her own!
By then, her position would be secure!
But Kelvin's expression was icy cold. He felt only disgust for Madison, who deserved to be skinned alive!
"Actually, Penelope, you should have a list of suspects in your mind," Madison said. "You know better than I do who is around Lucy."
Penelope certainly had her suspicions.
The people who came in and out of Lucy's ward, besides doctors and nurses, were her and Kelvin.
Other family and friends rarely came.
And when they did, Penelope was always there, so they had no reason to harm Lucy.
So, after the process of elimination, the only suspect left was Kelvin!
Penelope's eyes widened suddenly.
Was it him?
He seemed to have a reason to do this!
He wanted to keep Lucy, and he wanted his child to always live in the Davis family!
Moreover, Kelvin had given Lucy shares!
"Have you figured it out?" Madison watched her expression change. "Say it boldly, Penelope. Trust your intuition and judgment."
Penelope slowly turned to look at Kelvin.
Kelvin's eyes flickered. "Penelope, do you suspect me?"
"The only people who can freely approach Lucy are you and me, and I never guard against you," Penelope said. "When Mr. Liam Davis and Monica come over, I don't trust them and stay by Lucy's side."
