Chapter 948 The Two of You Little Guys Are Mysterious

Penelope had been feeling really down and unstable lately, so Kelvin thought it was best to stick around and help her chill out.

Additionally, Kelvin was concerned about what Brandon might try next.

There was no way he was going to let Brandon meet with Penelope alone, not even just to talk.

Suddenly, a video call popped up on his screen.

Kelvin glanced at it and answered.

"Kelvin, what's up with you lately?" Timothy's face filled the entire screen. "You're like a ghost, man. Trying to catch you is like trying to catch smoke."

"Why don't you try catching some?"

"Whoa, someone's in a mood. Who's been messing with Mr. Davis? Bet they're in for a rough ride!"

Kelvin's face stayed blank. "You got something to say? If not, hang up."

"I do, I do. Don't hang up," Timothy quickly said. "You know about me and Monica, right?"

"Not only do I know, I saw it happen."

Timothy looked proud and smug. "How about that? Not bad, huh? When you were after Penelope, you didn't have this kind of flair... Oh, wait, you never actually went for it."

The more he thought about it, the more pleased he became, even whistling a couple of times.

So, he was here to show off.

"Congrats," Kelvin said. "You're getting cocky after just the first step. Take it easy, or you might end up regretting it."

"Screw you!" Timothy snapped. "Can't you say something nice? Are you jinxing us?"

"Just a heads-up. I've been through it, got more experience than you."

"I've seen your experiences, Kelvin. Thanks to you paving the way, I know exactly how to win over Monica. You made all the mistakes, so I can avoid them."

Kelvin's expression didn't change. "Are you done?"

"Can't you spare a moment to chat? What are you so busy with?" Timothy asked. "Doesn't seem like anyone's around. You're all alone. Isn't it nice to have someone to talk to?"

"Don't need it."

"You're so cold."

Timothy was all smiles, clearly in high spirits from his good news.

He just wanted to flaunt his new relationship status in front of Kelvin.

But Kelvin wasn't interested. He ended the call and went back to his work.

Then he heard a soft creak of a door opening, followed by the faint sound of footsteps on the carpet.

Kelvin stood up immediately.

Penelope emerged from the bedroom, closing the door behind her, and turned to find herself in Kelvin's arms.

"Kelvin..." she paused, surprised. "What are you doing at home?"

Kelvin didn't say anything, just looked at her.

"Aren't you going to the office?" she asked again. "And you turned off my alarm again. What time is it? I overslept."

Kelvin simply said, "Penelope, aren't you going to give me a hug?"

She was in his arms, but her hands hung at her sides, not moving.

She was still hesitant, still afraid to get too close.

That was okay. Kelvin could wait and teach her.

"What?" Seeing Penelope not moving, Kelvin repeated, "Not going to hug me?"

Only then did she slowly lift her arms and wrap them around his waist.

She leaned against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.

Penelope understood he was gently guiding her, encouraging her to be brave and not timid.

He always loved her, accepted her, and respected her.

And she... she couldn't quite do it yet.

But she was trying. She was trying to forget that night, trying to believe she was still pure and whole.

"That's better." Kelvin stroked her hair. "Hungry?"

"Yeah."

"Let's eat."

Penelope whispered, "It's already noon."

"Brunch it is."

He led her downstairs, gentle and patient, without a hint of annoyance.

While she ate, he watched her, making Penelope a bit self-conscious. "Why are you staring at me while I eat?"

"You eat, I'll watch."

Penelope glanced around. "Good thing it's just us here. If Sam and Lucy were around, they'd tease us."

Then she remembered something. "I didn't get up this morning. Did they ask about me?"

"They did."

"So embarrassing. They used to think of me as the diligent mom. Now, thanks to you," Penelope sighed, "that image is ruined."

Every time she overslept, it was because of Kelvin.

Either he wore her out, or he turned off her alarm.

"You can make it up to them." Kelvin checked his watch. "It's about time. Let's pick them up from school later."

"Okay."

Penelope had been feeling out of it lately, like she was just going through the motions.

But around the kids, she tried to act normal.

She didn't want them to notice.

But Sam had already sensed something was off that morning.

He and Lucy had a plan, set to go into action that night.

As the sky darkened, the lights at King Manor came on, casting a warm, everyday glow. After dinner, the staff tidied up the dining room.

"Where are Sam and Lucy?" Penelope came downstairs, looking around. "I just went up to grab a jacket, and now they're gone."

The butler was puzzled too. "I just saw them here."

"Where did they run off to? I'll go look."

As she spoke, Penelope stepped outside the house.

The autumn night was chilly, and she pulled her jacket tighter.

In the distance, she heard laughter.

Following the sound, she found Sam and Lucy on the lawn with Kelvin, each holding one of his hands, talking excitedly.

Kelvin listened intently, bending down, eyes focused.

"Mom's here," Lucy was the first to spot her. "Quick, quick! Are you ready?"

Penelope walked over to Kelvin, looking at the kids, then at him. "What are you all plotting? So secretive."

He smiled slightly. "You'll find out soon."

As he spoke, the lights went out.

Penelope was suddenly in darkness.

What was going on?

Before she could ask, the lawn lit up with twinkling lights.

Penelope then noticed that tiny sparkling lights surrounded the lawn... She'd been too focused on the kids to see them before.

"What is this..." Penelope was taken aback. "What are you doing?"

Kelvin had a surprise for her?
