Chapter 815 Sam Was Finally Discharged from the Hospital
"Absolutely!" Sam responded with enthusiasm.
Kelvin added, "Yeah, for sure."
Penelope chuckled, "Now that's the spirit."
Whatever the father and son were discussing, it didn't really matter. They had plenty of time ahead to bond and grow closer. After all, they were family, connected by blood.
Sam rolled his eyes.
Kelvin let out a low grunt.
Both of them wore the same grumpy expression, which Penelope found amusing but managed to hold back her laughter.
A month later...
Today was Sam's discharge day.
After being cooped up in the hospital for a whole month, Sam was beyond ready to leave.
"I swear, I could've been out of here ages ago, but you guys insisted on all those extra tests, which delayed things by a week. Finally, the doctor agreed to let me go," Sam said. "Yay! Freedom at last!"
He grabbed his hospital gown and waved it around his head.
He was full of energy, practically bouncing off the walls.
The large wounds on Sam's neck had healed, and the stitches were removed. He just needed to apply scar cream daily.
"Freedom! Yay, yay, yay!" Sam cheered, bouncing on the hospital bed and wiggling his hips. "I can run, jump, and fly free again!"
Kelvin and Penelope stood by the bed, arms crossed, watching him with blank expressions.
"Aren't you guys happy? Aren't we going to celebrate?" Sam asked excitedly. "Today is such a wonderful day!"
Penelope nodded, "We're happy, just be careful not to break the bed."
Kelvin added, "Watch your hand, you just had a fracture. Don't break it again."
"Ugh, no way, I'm not that fragile!"
This month in the hospital had been tough on Sam, and Penelope was exhausted too, running between home, the hospital, and checking on Lucy.
Kelvin had been juggling work, home, and the hospital.
Today, with Sam's discharge, they were all finally free.
"Let's celebrate, let's party," Sam jumped off the bed and ran to them. "Why aren't you guys happy? Did I cause you too much trouble? Are you tired of me?"
"Distance makes the heart grow fonder, huh? Being together every day gets boring, no mystery or excitement left."
"No worries," Sam said, "You guys can enjoy your time together. I won't bother you anymore!"
Kelvin and Penelope exchanged a glance, then turned to pack up without a word.
They knew Sam well enough to let him have his moment.
"Whatever," Sam huffed. "I'll go live with Grandpa or Grandma, or maybe I'll stay with Grandfather. You guys are tired of me, but someone else will still love me!"
Just then, a hearty laugh came from the doorway.
"Who could ever get tired of my sweet grandson? Not a chance! I miss you every day!" Connor walked in, carrying a limited-edition race car model.
Nicole followed right behind.
"Sam's finally out of the hospital. I'm so relieved. Look at you, looking much better. My soups this month weren't in vain," Connor said with a warm smile.
Nicole also brought a gift, a pure gold longevity locket.
Sam was thrilled, grinning from ear to ear. "Thank you, Grandpa! Thank you, Grandma!"
He had wanted that race car model for so long, but thought it was too expensive. Now, his grandpa had given it to him!
And the gold locket!
Pure gold!
Sam bit it lightly, smiling like a little treasure hunter.
But that wasn't all.
When Liam arrived, he handed Sam a key.
"Grandfather," Sam examined the key, "What's this?"
"A house."
"A house?"
"To be precise, a villa," Liam said. "When you grow up, become an adult, and start your own family, you can move in. Sam, you can't live with your parents forever."
Sam accepted it joyfully, "Thank you, Grandfather!"
Liam was always generous.
He had bought Lucy an amusement park, and now a villa for Sam.
Each gift was more valuable than the last, showing their love and care.
"Don't you think..." Penelope nudged Kelvin, "They're being a bit too extravagant?"
"Is this okay? Is it appropriate? Won't it make Sam develop lavish spending habits?"
Take Connor's race car model, for example. It looked ordinary, but it cost tens of thousands of dollars because it was a limited edition!
Not to mention the gold jewelry and the villa!
"Do you think so?" Kelvin asked. "It's fine."
Penelope realized she shouldn't have asked him.
Kelvin was even more extravagant!
He had given shares directly!
"Isn't it inappropriate," Penelope muttered, "to teach kids to spend lavishly from a young age? Now it's tens of thousands, what about in the future?"
"By letting Sam and Lucy know they're wealthy from a young age, they won't be easily swayed by others or tempted by small gains."
Kelvin's reasoning made sense.
The Davis family's status attracted many who wanted to curry favor.
By fulfilling their material needs early on, they wouldn't be easily impressed or deceived.
"That makes sense, but..."
Kelvin wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close. "Different starting points mean different expectations. My children deserve the best."
Penelope nodded.
Maybe her way of thinking didn't apply to a wealthy family.
After all, the Davis family had the means to give their children the best within their capabilities.
It's just that the Davis family's "capabilities" far exceeded those of ordinary people.
With the three elders here, doting on Sam, Kelvin and Penelope couldn't get a word in.
"Kelvin," Penelope said, "I don't think we're needed here."
Which was great.
Her children, who once only had her love, now had so many people who loved them!
Suddenly, footsteps echoed from the doorway.
Penelope turned and locked eyes with Brandon.
