Chapter 929 Is Life More Important, or the Benefits Given by Brandon More Important

Kelvin pressed the knife harder, the blade digging into the waiter's cheek.

But it hadn't broken the skin.

Just a slight move from Kelvin, and the waiter's face would be slashed open, blood pouring out.

"What's more important, your life or the benefits Brandon promised you?" Kelvin asked. "Think carefully."

Intimidation was always Kelvin's strong suit.

The waiter looked at him, their eyes locking for a few seconds, a flicker of hesitation in his gaze.

Just when Kelvin thought his threat was working, the waiter said, "Of course, my life is more important… but I can't find anyone to take the fall for me. Mr. Davis, my target was really Thessaly, it had nothing to do with your wife!"

Kelvin's eyes darkened.

Where did Brandon find someone so tight-lipped?

Or was this waiter someone Brandon had planted in the restaurant long ago?

A wave of irritation washed over him.

"I'm asking you," Kelvin grabbed the waiter by the collar, "after they drank the drugged water you gave them, you put Brandon and my wife in the same room. What do you think would happen?"

"Well…"

"Speak!"

"I'm not sure… the drug has a slight aphrodisiac effect."

Kelvin's expression grew even more sinister. "Give me a definite answer!"

"A man and a woman alone, if one of them is sober, they can't resist…" the waiter replied. "Everyone knows that!"

Kelvin swung his hand, sending the waiter flying across the room, crashing to the floor, coughing up blood.

One of them was sober… so Brandon must have been pretending to be unconscious!

But from the timing, Brandon wouldn't have had time to sleep with Penelope!

Kelvin's mind raced, but these were just his suspicions, without enough evidence to back them up.

Deep down, he still believed Penelope was innocent, pure.

Even if… even if the worst happened and she did sleep with Brandon, he would still want her! He loved her even more!

"Mr. Davis," Ryan asked, "what should we do with this waiter?"

"Kill him."

The waiter froze, coughing up more blood, but didn't beg for mercy.

It seemed he was prepared to die.

"Not afraid? A waiter with such courage?" Kelvin said coldly. "Since you want to die so badly, I won't grant your wish. There are plenty of ways to make you suffer!"

"Mr. Davis, please spare me…"

"Hand him over to Thessaly," Kelvin ordered. "Since you claim you did this for Thessaly, let her punish you. Your fate is in her hands!"

The waiter froze again.

Before he could react, the bodyguards dragged him away.

Ryan respectfully said, "Mr. Davis… if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."

"Wait."

Ryan immediately stopped, waiting quietly for Kelvin's instructions.

However, a long time passed without Kelvin saying a word.

He walked to the window, playing with a cigarette between his fingers.

After a while, he asked, "Do you think, in that situation, Penelope and Brandon…"

Kelvin didn't finish, but Ryan understood his meaning.

Such private matters were not for Ryan to comment on, but since Kelvin asked… he had to answer!

"Mr. Davis, based on the sequence of events, the testimonies, and the timing, I think…" Ryan paused, "Brandon didn't have time to do anything to Mrs. Davis. Our bodyguards found the hotel quickly, and with all the commotion, Brandon couldn't have missed it."

Ryan glanced at Kelvin's profile, unsure if his answer satisfied him. This was Ryan's honest opinion.

To Kelvin, Penelope was everything—his lifelong love and protection, sacred and inviolable. Anyone who violated that would die!

Since marrying Penelope, Kelvin's temper and personality had been slowly changing. Penelope was kind and gentle to everyone. Good people deserve good things. They thought they would live happily ever after, but then this happened, orchestrated by Brandon!

Kelvin remained silent, eventually just waving his hand, signaling Ryan to leave. Ryan nodded slightly, knowing Kelvin needed some time alone. Words were useless now, without concrete evidence to prove Brandon's guilt, to prove nothing happened between Brandon and Penelope.

Kelvin didn't know how long he stood there, but eventually, he checked the time and headed for the door. Had Penelope woken up, or had she not slept at all?

Kelvin opened the study door and saw Penelope standing there. She was barefoot, her nightgown wrinkled, hair falling softly behind her, her eyes clear but with a hint of fear. Seeing her like this, Kelvin's heart softened instantly.

"Penelope?" He reached out to touch her head, pulling her into his arms. "Why are you standing here alone? Why not come in?"

She didn't speak, her body stiff, hands cold.

"When did you wake up?" Kelvin asked again. "Or did you not sleep?"

"I slept," she answered quietly.

"Only for a little while?"

"I had a nightmare."

Penelope snuggled closer into his embrace. Kelvin sighed softly, filled with tenderness he didn't know how to express. He could only tilt his head and kiss her forehead.

"I had a terrible dream, it scared me awake. I felt like it was real, I didn't dare stay in the bedroom alone," Penelope said. "So I came to the study door, but I didn't dare disturb you…"

"Disturb? Penelope, no matter when you appear in front of me, it's a joy, not a disturbance."

She nodded repeatedly, her hair brushing against his shirt, making a sound. She couldn't be as close and carefree with Kelvin as she had been before, showing her vulnerable side. Last night destroyed not only their relationship but also her pride… Now, Penelope second-guessed everything she did.

Would Kelvin be annoyed? Did he mind her touch? When he held her, kissed her, did he picture her and Brandon in bed together?

Penelope was cautious, humble. Kelvin saw through her thoughts. He understood. But he didn't expose her. He knew Penelope's worries, but words couldn't convey his feelings. No matter how much he said, she might think he was just comforting her. Only actions could prove everything.
