Chapter 994 Are You Not Staying Tonight?
Kelvin was always a mystery, and just that wasn't enough to figure him out.
Thessaly was pretty good at putting on a show, too.
No worries, the main event... was still on the horizon.
People could act, but the evidence? It never lied!
Once they were in the car, Kelvin checked the rearview mirror, catching a perfect glimpse of Thessaly.
She was staring his way, her gaze kind of frozen, lost in her own thoughts.
With his sharp instincts, Kelvin sensed that Brandon wasn't just throwing a dinner party today... There had to be something else going on!
He hoped Thessaly was smart enough to watch her back, to counter whatever Brandon was up to, and to keep herself safe no matter what! If it came down to it, even if she had to ditch the evidence, her safety was the priority!
As the car pulled away, the Walker Mansion slowly slipped back into silence.
After all the commotion, it was empty once more.
"I envy Penelope even more now," Thessaly murmured at the door. "Just seeing her marriage, I thought she was lucky. Seeing her kids, I feel... maybe life's just too good to her."
"Too good to her?"
"Yeah. Kelvin's tall, handsome, rich, and loyal. Her kids are smart and adorable. She's gentle, beautiful, and a jewelry designer. Her life seems perfect."
Brandon suddenly let out a cold laugh.
Thessaly was a bit taken aback and turned to look at him.
What was that supposed to mean?
Brandon cleared his throat, trying to mask his earlier slip. "You can't judge everything by how it looks. Penelope's happy now, but it hasn't always been easy for her."
In her early days, Penelope's life was like walking on eggshells, full of anxiety. And it was all because of Kelvin! How could that be happiness?
Her life's ups and downs all came from Kelvin!
"Actually, you're the one who's really lucky," Brandon said. "You started as the lead in a TV series and became an overnight sensation, securing your spot in the entertainment world. You've been beautiful since you were a kid, excelling in every aspect... Thessaly, your life is one a lot of people would kill for."
Thessaly looked at him, "I used to think so too."
Until Paul ruined it for her.
That was the blemish on her life, and it was Brandon who brought it upon her!
How could she not hate him! Yet, her heart still skipped a beat for him!
Conflicting emotions tangled within Thessaly, struggling, twisting, swirling...
"Alright, enough of that," Thessaly smiled. "I can see Sam and Lucy really like you."
"I watched them grow up."
In fact, he had saved Penelope's kids more than once.
Back then...
Brandon's smile turned cold and bitter.
Looking back, he realized how foolish and selfless he had been. If he'd been a bit more selfish, Kelvin wouldn't have won Penelope so easily!
Penelope might have been his!
Thessaly glanced at the time and adjusted Brandon's collar. "I should get going. You planned everything so well today, and I got to play hostess for a day. Not bad, I'll remember this day."
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed Brandon on the lips.
Dating was all about that, wasn't it? But neither of them had any real feelings!
"You're the hostess here," Brandon said. "Why say you're just playing the part?"
She smiled, "Being a girlfriend and being the hostess are worlds apart."
Brandon asked, "Is the difference... getting hitched? If you want, I can make that happen."
Thessaly's heart skipped a beat.
She knew it couldn't be that simple, knew there was a catch, yet she couldn't help but be moved by Brandon's words!
"Marriage... marriage is too soon," Thessaly shook her head. "Let's take it slow."
"You see, I'm ready to tie the knot, but you're not ready to walk down the aisle."
Thessaly leaned into his chest, listening to his steady, strong heartbeat.
"We've got all the time in the world," Thessaly said. "If love's meant to last, it doesn't matter if we're together every second."
But in truth, her time with Brandon... was ticking away day by day.
Thessaly closed her eyes.
She gave herself five minutes to indulge.
Brandon held her quietly, saying nothing.
This moment of silence was actually quite beautiful.
Five minutes later, Thessaly pushed him away. "I should get back to the set. I've got scenes to shoot early tomorrow."
"Not staying the night?"
When a guy asked a girl if she was staying the night, everyone knew what that implied.
"No."
Brandon didn't let go. "I can drive you, make sure you won't be late for filming. If necessary, I'll have the crew take half a day off and shoot in the afternoon."
Thessaly laughed, "Do you know how much it costs to halt production for half a day?"
"No worries, it's worth it for you."
"The scene tomorrow needs the early morning light, just as dawn breaks. Brandon, you can control the crew's schedule, but... you can't control the sunrise, can you?"
Thessaly definitely wouldn't stay.
It was too risky. Although Brandon wouldn't touch her, he still thought she was tainted, but... what if something else happened?
The more unpredictable, the more unknown, the more dangerous it was.
Better to leave now.
"Alright," Thessaly softened her voice. "When I have some time off, when filming slows down, I'll come back. We don't have to see each other every day, right?"
She tried to act coy.
Men usually liked it when women acted coy with them.
Brandon's smile was gentle, reminiscent of his old self.
Thessaly kissed the corner of his lips again, then began to pry his fingers off one by one, preparing to step back.
Brandon let her, but showed no intention of letting her go.
They were locked in a silent struggle.
Thessaly's smile was starting to falter, but she tried to maintain it. "What are you doing... you're so annoying."
Just as she finally pulled his hand away and was about to step back, a blinding light suddenly flashed in her eyes.
Then, the gates of the Walker Mansion opened, and the roar of an engine filled the air.
A car sped in.
Its high beams were on, shining directly on Brandon and Thessaly, blindingly bright!
Thessaly raised her hand to shield her eyes. It was so late, who could it be?
"Mr. Walker," a man in black stepped out of the driver's seat, "the package has arrived."
He handed a file folder to Brandon with both hands.
Brandon asked, "Is everything in there?"
"Yes. Once you open it, you'll understand."
"OK."
